I tend to be a cynic about these things, but man when that song kicked in at the end I felt the emotions running. It’s probably a parent thing, I guess.

I think hope is the right word.

im not even a parent myself... but i was watching with my AA spouse, GenZ AA step-granddaughter, and her PR girlfriend. i mean...just bang on, man, whatever the feeling. it was quite something and i just enjoyed the fuck out of it! 😁

Spoiler

I am not a parent, but the ending felt hopeful because of what we saw during the film. We got a good look at what America is and is becoming as far as fascism and hate taking hold, but I did leave feeling hopeful for something better. This film did a great job intertwining our current situation with the story. This movie hit me pretty good. I have zero to add that would be negative because not one part of the film left me feeling like it missed the mark. Best film I have watched since my favorite movie of all-time, Jojo Rabbit, came out in October of 2019.

I felt like the living situation was pretty easy to understand, especially in 2025 in America. There was some definite middle finger going towards the government there with what his character was doing.

The living situation is understandable certainly. It was a very small issue but at the time I sensed a disconnect in location and style of that very industrial building compared to the house in the forest where Bob and Willa lived. I forget the term for when characters in a film or tv show are suddenly in a different location that wouldn't be possible in reality. But like that.

It might be suspension of disbelief. One film I can recall that being the case is my favorite Christmas movie, Christmas Vacation. Clark works in the city, lives in the suburbs and then he’s in the Rockies looking for a Christmas tree.

Saw this, very little understanding of what it is other than PTA and people are bitching about woke (but they do that about literally everything). Loved it, goddamn. Had to piss for an hour, waited. One small detail is I loved the guy driving the van after the bank scene. He captured that feeling perfectly. Finding out time.

Last weekend I asked someone if they were a member of the Christmas Adventurers Club. They said "no" but not very convincingly.

I had the thought that this is going to end up coming up on Surly.

I think the closest you could probably get to that in real life is Portland. It gets woodsy pretty quickly once you leave Portland proper. But, it's obviously entirely fictitious in the movie. The Texas Dip where they shot the car chase is in San Diego county.
