This is LSU-level "whine about the refs/umpires" nonsense.

They didn't get their asses kicked in either game because of the home plate umpire.

Arky showed up two days in a row with the intent to kick the shit out of us.  We responded by failing to execute the basics, instead hanging meat from the mound and trying to win one solo HR at a time at the plate.  That's all there is to it.

And it'll happen again today if they have poor plate discipline and refuse to hit to all fields if/when the pitcher won't give them the pitch they want.

You seem mad.

No one said it’s the only reason why we lost. But it was not helping our chances when when the announcers have to stay something because it’s that obvious

Schloss said from day 1 in fall ball that we had a good team but our best players were going to need to carry a heavy load and stay healthy because the depth wasn’t there.

Our team leader at SS is hitting .180 in SEC play, our Friday night starter is out for the season, our best hitter hasn’t played in almost 2 months and our prized portal pickup in the outfield has been relegated to spot starts against Prairie View A&M.

I think we all mentioned/feared getting out-talented at some point despite how well we’ve played for 3 months and it’s now staring us in the face. Have to respond.

There needs to be some reconciliation here.  First, every team needs their best players to carry a heavy load.  Same as it always was.  For every team.  And really that’s why we’ve compiled the record we have is because it hasn’t been one guy.

You are most likely overvaluing the depth of other teams.  Arkansas seems to be struggling finding a first baseman.  Looking at your 2024 Texas Aggies, they had 10 guys with 100 official ABs.  The 11th guy had 61.  He hit .213 with 1 HR.  They had 11 pitchers log 20 innings with 3 of those with less than 25 innings.

We have 8 guys with 20+ innings.  That doesn’t include Saunier or Burns.  That does not include Rerick or Navarre.  Two guys that PG had rated higher than Dylan V.  We have 8 guys with 100 ABs.  The 9th is Belyeu.  Few teams have a Jonah Williams.

Go look at UFs stats last year.  Jack C was a monster. Everybody else less so.  Were they lacking depth?  Talent?  Both?

To many here Mitchell Daly was expendable.  Nevermind he hit 5th for a CWS team that won the same number of conference games as the eventual national champion.  If they were so deep and talented, how’d he hit 5th?

If these teams are so much more talented and deeper, why don’t they show it?  If there’s talent buried on the roster, it’s likely a freshman who’s not quite ready.  And no matter the perceived depth of the roster, the play time distribution is similar so they aren’t going deeper into their talent pool.

I distinctly remember having that fuck head ump who grew up an aggy fan and lives in college station call our games against aggy in Austin. I chalked it up to timeline shenanigans.

That's Doug Williams. and he has somehow made the jump to the SEC and STILL calling our games. He was out here last Tuesday.

Ah, the ol' "you seem..."

Let me give it a shot.

You seem...like a person who's likely average/mediocre in every way because you spend more time/effort focusing on and blaming external factors vs. making sure everything within your control is 100% wired tight.

If you execute perfectly and get screwed that's one thing, but...

It's a terrible look to bitch about an umpire or a bad call when the pitcher hangs pitches up/middle for the other team to crush.

It's a terrible look to bitch about an umpire or a bad call when you run up the HBP and walk numbers.

It's a terrible look to bitch about an umpire or a bad call when the pitcher is consistently throwing off-speed to the outer half of the plate and hitters are consistently swinging out of their shoes trying to pull it.

It's a terrible look to bitch about an umpire or a bad call when the team forgets how many outs there are and runs into a double play.

Not a single person in this thread has blamed the umpire. Yes we played poorly. Yes the umpire fucked us. The two aren’t mutually exclusive

The bitching may be overboard, but this is not a binary issue.  We have played like shit, and we can control that.  We can alter our attitude and decisions.   But when we got into the meat of that game, at pivotal points, really bad calls were going against us.  It's a bad combination.

The officiating was horrible but that was not the reason we lost both games the way we lost. We seemed out of sorts in all aspects of the game where we normally excel at. Our mental approach to playing Aggy vs. Arky in all the major sports seems different to me. Same goes for how Arky plays us vs. Aggy.

I'm aware that the cumulative outcome of the game (loss) is not being attributed to the umpire.  I have not suggested that.

High performers treat them as if they ARE mutually exclusive (even if, in reality, they may not be).

This weekend can officially get fucked obviously.

but like I said earlier in the thread, it is typical in baseball for really good teams to go through an eat shit couple of weeks. Augie used to talk about it all the time. The key is fighting through it and regaining the confidence and playing hot before June starts.

I would have preferred it not happen against Arkansas because fuck them but they caught us at home a week after series with agros and had their garbage weekends leading up to this.

salvaging a game today goes a long way in safely procuring the sec title so they need to give them hell today. Gotta fight through the adversity.

Seems oddly similar to what happened when we lost Tanner Witt.  Team just nosedived for a while.  To a greater degree than can be explained by the loss of a single pitcher.

Exactly.  As painful as it is, better now than in Regionals/Supers.

Slump now, start heating back up in a few weeks, and catch fire in June.

I’m more pissed that we seem not give af than anything else. I said that during game 1 as arky pitchers and ramped up and locked in and we looked like the last place team and not a team on a mission to complete. Maybe it’s a one weekend hiccup and probably so or maybe we have bigger issues at the plate. Thankfully we’re locked in to host the regional and super unless we just shit the bed and lose out and and lose 0-2 in the sec tourney.

You’re such a clown. Repeatedly you act like you’re better in every way than other posters on the board. Your great contribution of baseball analysis is the same every game. It seems you think that players trying to pull the ball is the only reason guys ever get out. It’s so tired and it’s the analysis you’d get from someone like Kyle Peterson.
Newsflash, you’re still just posting on the internet, you didn’t make it in baseball. Welcome to the club.

Again, what do you want a team to do when they are getting their shit kicked in? Smile and jump around with a bunch of fake enthusiasm? Being “ramped up” and “locked in” means jackshit in a sport like baseball. We got our ass kicked because their best players have been superstars and ours haven’t. Being “locked in” doesn’t make it easier to hit 98 with a hammer curveball. If it did this sport would be a lot less complicated.

I somewhat get where you are trying to go but the sport rarely works like that.

Also, we have 19 SEC wins. We could lose every game the rest of the way and would still easily host. That is how much cushion we gave ourselves the first 3 months. Let’s just not use all that cushion.

If ramped up and locked in doesn’t mean jack shit in baseball then explain their two pitchers having the best games of the season against Texas? Mentally focus and being locked in and pumped up matter a fucking ton in any sport. On the road against a team that clearly wants it more than we do and reading body language is what I mean. Not sure how that doesn’t matter in this sport. Baseball is mental and getting in your head on top of approach and skills and all that stuff. Not sure how you don’t see that from the body language approach. Maybe it won’t matter in the long run of the season and thankfully we won’t play a post season game in Arkansas.

They are great pitchers going in the top few rounds of the MLB draft in a few months going against a lineup that is missing several guys and has been in a funk that started before this weekend?

We're not losing out and SEC tourney is single elimination....FIFY.

Yes that is why I said thankfully we’re locked in then gave a hypothetical example of what would have to happen like losing out 9 straight games plus a conference tourney game making it 10 straight losses. An extreme example.

Fuck off.  Don't like my opinion/POV?  Scroll past it or provide your own.

You don't know me, who I am, or what I've done/not done.  Internet cred is pointless anyway.

I'm just talking baseball and I don't tend to debate topics or give strong opinions on things of which I don't have an understanding/experience.  There are many places you won't find me expressing any opinion at all.

Strawman, but flail away at it if you want.  It IS a large part of the problem and it's a recurring one - so yeah, it gets repeated.  I'm also very positive (in equal measure) when they're disciplined at the plate and raking.

Yep, I'm posting on the internet.  I travel quite a bit and enjoy following the team and chatting about baseball while I'm at it.  Unless I'm mistaken, that's what this board is designed for, no?

Yeah, yeah.  I'm adding a little relational/causal layer to the term "mutually exclusive."

Poor performance and poor umpiring can certainly both happen; I'm suggesting that high-performers generally isolate them when assigning responsibility for an outcome.

I haven't seen any of Schloss's postgame comments.  What did he say?

Might be time to insert Jonah in the top half of this lineup. We need a spark at the top and Jonah seems to have a knack for finding ways to get on. Always wonder how a young player is going to handle the lights right off the bat but it’s clear the moment isn’t too big for him.

Jalin shouldn’t be anywhere near the top. if it wasn’t for the fact that I don’t want an automatic out batting in front of Ethan, I would bat him 9th

Wouldn’t mind trying

3. Arod

4. Kimble

5. Jonah

Hell I’d be fine batting Jonah 3rd

I don’t care how we do it we need a win. Ideally one where our bats break this damn slump we’re in and we dominate them on the mound but at this point I’d take a 1-0 squeaker. Just win.

I'm not sure he said anything about the HP Ump after the game, but he sure was voicing displeasure at him during the game.  That dude's zone was blind fold/dart board stuff and that shit with Galvan standing on-deck was just stupid.  I think that's where Schloss said, "Fuck it" and started chirping. You could see Max W over in the dugout giving him the business too.

The completely blown check swing K call on Schuss didn't help much either.  That was really bad.
