He can sit out till week 11 and still have the season count for the last year of his rookie deal.

His mri of his “sore back” came back clean meaning he doesn’t get paid for being injured. Every game he misses costs him $1.4 mil each.  Jerry can also declare him “quit squad” and he gets no money for 25, and Jerry still has him for 26/27.  The agent is not looking out for the fiduciary interests of his client. It’s his responsibility to pursue it, not Jerry.

Eh, that's not at all what that means.... It's exceedingly difficult to prove someone is faking a bad back.  The MRI just says it's nothing structural they can see but inflammation and soreness can be extremely standard and not seen on a MRI.  See Jalen Ramsey 2019, so it's extremely doubtful, they'll make him play if he really wants to feign injury.  Now, he'll have to wear that brand or crown for his career, but most other organizations won't give a shit with someone as good as Micah.

The quit squad is walking off or refusing to go into a game for no reason, so that's not really a viable option either.  Jerrah can franchise him in 26 and maybe 27, but that would be incredibly stupid and economic catastrophe.  Holdouts are always about how much of a disruption does the player want to be and how personal has it gotten between the sides.  Again, what kind of organization wants this type of distraction.  Has there ever been a good team in the modern salary cap era (so can't say Emmitt) have an in-season hold out on the team and then won a championship that year?  I can't think of any.  It's just another mismanaged situation which doesn't have to be this hard.  Jerrah thinks he's smarter than everyone else and this is about his ego, his feelings, and his fear.  This could have been and should have been solved a long time ago.

there is nobody in professional sports quite like jerry jones.  what an absolute unicorn.  one of one.  who cares about winning super bowls when you can win the news cycle every single year?  his team is the at the center of global professional sports.  so awesome.

I'm at the point where I really hope jerry continues to dig in even harder and longer until micah blinks.  like it or not, jerry is right: micah's stuck on one year deals through 2027 if jerry wants it that way.  no other owner in football, in any sport, has the stomach for what jerry is doing.  when he is gone and that fat fuckin idiot son of his takes over, things are going to get boring as hell, and we'll be losing.  those will be the true dark days...  I assume that whatever "deal" he and micah discussed a few months ago is drawn up and waiting for muffaletta to drop by the star and pick it up.  it's obviously a lot of money; eventually you have to think micah will realize he can just take the deal and be a very happy, very rich man playing football.  but I'm here for the chaos.  this team isn't winning a fucking thing with that mental midget taking snaps for at least a few more years.

I appreciated how it showed Jerry dragging the league kicking and screaming into making more money.  Was that stat accurate that they stated the Cowboys were 1/4 of the NFL's merch/swag/ jersey sales at the time?  For his many faults, the motherfucker can make money.  He even lifted the non-spender/ money-saver owners with his methods.

Question: why didn't Michael party at the White House instead of the Residence Inn on Walnut HIll Lane?  I know hindsight and all, but gotdam.

I know it's a mixed bag from his own players on the outcome of Jimmy staying; but I always blamed Jerry for not finding a way to enable the continued results.  Jimmy may or may not have created the Hershel trade; but his talent assessments damned sure measured the payoff. Jerry didn't like glory hole as much as he once claimed.

That was my question watching the last two episodes.  And I forgot about the locker room incident which nearly revoked his probation.  Talk about a cat that almost maxed out his nine lives.

The other thing I got out of watching the last two episodes is Stephen knows things have to change and he’s just waiting it out until Jerry can’t physically and/or mentally operate day to day or he passes.

Jerry Jones is the Elon Musk of the NFL.  I was fortunate to attend SB XXVIII when Johnson had them on top, hard to believe the damage that a rich moron can do.

First episode. There were some nice moments surrounding Irvin, Aikman and Smith, and the creation of America's team via Staubach etc. I liked the way they wove "Lust for Gold" from the GB&U into the opening, but there was way too much time spent listening to and watching the smarmy Jones pontificate about himself.

Calling Jones a "gambler" was probably a nice way of saying he got lucky. He got lucky hitting a gusher that made him a shitload of money. He got lucky that Bum Bright only saw dollar signs and didn't give a damn about the character of the people he was selling the Cowboys to. And finally, Jones got lucky when that number one pick (Aikman) fell into his lap. Lucky for us that picking Aikman was a no-brainer. Jones couldn't screw that up.

(I'd go so far as to say that Jones (and we) got lucky when Schramm had the foresight to draft Staubach when he was facing several years of military service. Without Roger, America's team might never have happened. (I know, there was Dandy Don)) Speaking of luck, didn't Schramm also engineer the Herschel Walker trade? Thanks, Tex.

Jones wisely hired Jimmy Johnson. That's about it. Everything else positive that happened for this franchise, maybe even the Jimmy Johnson hire, probably would have happened with a smarter, more professional, more likeable owner/management organization.

Jones made a mess of the way he fired Landry and Schramm. What a fucking embarrassment. He coulda learned a thing or two from Schramm. My guess is Jimmy told him to pound sand after Jones didn't follow thru with some promises. (Just my guess, no proof of that. Johnson hasn't said squat all these years, probably on the advice of a lawyer.) Switzer was. in effect, Jimmy's buttboy. Robby the Robot coulda coached this team to another Super Bowl Trophy. Just about everything Jones did since has led this franchise in the general direction of becoming a second-tier team if not the worst team in the NFL. A long string of shitty coach hires stands as a testament to this. How may went on to be successful head coaches elsewhere?

Even when Jimmy's teams were skyrocketing the Cowboys' reputation as America's team, Jones was a walking, talking, channel-changing embarrassment - and has been ever since those guys retired. Maybe they shoulda named this series "Man hires Jimmy Johnson."

Looking forward to Episode Two and the Aikman years.

This is so full of inaccuracies that I don’t know where to start.

schram engineered the Herschel Walker trade? LOLNO

jerry bungled the Landry firing? How is flying out and trying to tell a guy face to face “making a mess”?

Jimmy left because Jerry made promises he didn’t keep? No. Jimmy left because he was a rambling man and was ALWAYS leaving after the 93 season. (Jimmy’s own words from the NFLNetwork show “America’s game”, I believe the show about the 95 season).

is Jerry a very VERY successful idiot? Yes.

go find the book “Boys Will be Boys”, it’ll help a lot.

According to this docu, Jones was spotted eating with Jimmy (at Tom's favorite Mexican restaurant) and the media went bonkers. Landry had not been notified. It was considered a PR disaster. Also per this documentary, seems Jones said in a press conference that he wanted Tex's job with Schramm over to the side watching on in shock.

Yes. The real problem was that Jerry hadn’t taken into account how rabid Dallas media was for the Cowboys and also, he hadn’t actually hired Jimmy at that point.

When Jerry and Jimmy came to an agreement, he flew to Austin to tell Landry personally. Landry went to the golf course to hide from Jerry.

Heck, Schram (or maybe it was Bright) had made it a condition of sale that Jerry fire Landry.

I mean we know the documentary wasnt worried about being super accurate as Bush said “Landry flew fighter jets in WWII” and no one bothered correcting it (Landry flew a prop powered bomber).

Jerry handled that whole thing extremely poorly. Was disrespectful to Landry. I have family from Mission where Landry is from that completely disowned the Cowboys after that happened. A lot of Landry fans were pissed at how he was treated on the way out.

Jimmy didn’t want to trade Walker, he wanted to trade IRVIN. Another HC in the NFL (Vikes HC maybe?) and Jerry talked him out of it.

Again, Jerry’s crime was not knowing how crazy Dallas media and fans were about the Cowboys.

when he and Jimmy were spotted in the Mexican restaurant, they were just discussing things. No one was hired.

Once Jimmy and Jerry came to a deal, Jerry flew out to tell Tom in person. That’s way WAY more respectful than a midnight phone call.

given Tom’s being the only HC in Cowboys history, Tom was always going to be hurt by the firing and fans would always be sympathetic to Coach Landry.

That's news to me. The documentary, at least Episode 1, has Jimmy and Irvin as Miami Hurricane blood brothers.

Re why Jimmy left, I don't care what he said years later. I think he loved that team, but he probably couldn't stand Jerry. Looks to me like the only good thing Jones did (hiring Jimmy), he undid a few years later, and it probably cost us two or three more Super Bowl appearances.

so you’re accusing Jimmy of lying?

During the 93 seasons, Jimmy was interviewing for a HC at one of the NFL expansion teams.

he never stayed at any coaching job longer than 5 years. He was ALWAYS leaving.

again, go read the book I linked above it’s great. It’s written from notes and stories given by Cowboys beat writers of the time.

Eh..... Friends don't let friends drink the Bayless.  That's a Skip rumor and it's never really been verified by anyone else.  And it wasn't another HC, it was Al Davis, who in this scenario was possibly trading FOR Irvin.  I'm not sure you can trust the source and regardless, it sounds like this was stream of consciousness type conversation, not a real, serious conversation to trade Irvin anywhere.

Jimmy wasn't always leaving or at least it's not commonly sourced this way.  Can you cite you're narrative?  Jimmy is a mercurial personality who always judges his situation around if he was having fun or if he was getting bored or complacent or unhappy.  Obviously, the relationship with Jerrah was unsustainable and he many times lashed out or responded poorly to Jerrah always stepping on his toes or trying to bully him around his contract.  But Jimmy has spoken many times about his personality and how he doesn't look too far in the future but asks himself about his quality of life in the now (below).

The Jacksonville thing was a Mike Fisher story, IIRC.  It was about how Jacksonville was interested in hiring Norv Turner for their first HC and the owner approached Jimmy to get his thoughts.  Jimmy, in one of his frenzies about Jerrah not respecting him, tells the Jacksonville owner, he should hire Jimmy and Jimmy would try and take most of his staff.  The Jax owner, speaking with Jimmy with Jerrah's understanding, didn't like the conversation and never really pursues it.  Here's the thing... Jimmy was under his infamous 10 year contract at the time.  He hadn't negotiated down it was a bone of contention for the two.  Jimmy screaming he'd take his talents elsewhere when Jerrah got in his way and Jerrah always reminding he was under contract and he wasn't coaching anywhere else.  In other words, it's a fun and juicy story, but there's no teeth.  Jimmy was under contract and Jerry wasn't going to let him out unless...... And remember, it's heavily rumored that Jimmy offered Jerrah 1 more year to go for the 3 peat and Jerrah, getting off cheap in the deal decided it time to go on a 3 decade journey of ineptitude to show real football people that he definitely wasn't one of them.

Jimmy was becoming a god in Dallas and a coaching god in the NFL. He was on his way to a dynasty and becoming the next Tom Landry, one of the greatest of all time, but he had a nasty little owner constantly bitch-jabbing him in the ribs.

Jeez, can you imagine having to listen to that moron every effing hour of every effing day? Calls late at night or five in the morning? (Just a guess here)(Hey, Jimmy, I got an idea, or hey, I just thought of a play, or a scheme that if you don't seriously consider I'm gonna whine and bitch till the cows come home.) I know you're putting in 80-hour weeks, but we need to talk about one of the players who told a banjo joke. It's like get the hell off my ass, you little (expletive stream deleted).

I don't care what Johnson said later, Jones had to be the reason he left, (and people lie all the time about their opinions of their bosses).

Since this is/was America's Team, and finally got its own high-quality documentary, maybe Hollywood should consider a movie next. Say an alternate reality blockbuster, wherein Jerry, after Jimmy's second SB Win, suffers a stroke and can't talk or move. He's confined to a wheelchair and Jimmy takes over the franchise.

Jimmy's Cowboys proceed to win the next five Superbowls. He's the toast of the town. He's elected Governor, but continues to coach the Cowboys to victories. And he keeps the fully alert invalid Jones around so that in private moments he can mercilessly taunt the guy. Jerry can only drool. Nobody understands what he's trying to say.  I'd watch it.

I’ve posted the video here before. It was from Jimmy’s mouth that he was always leaving, even talked about never coaching anywhere very long and how he had a date in his calendar. One of the NFL network Super Bowl shows (I think it was 95, but might have been 93).

as to the interview with the expansion team, Troy called him out in the same NFL network show. Said the team was livid that Jimmy was demanding their all and he was out interviewing for another team.

On the Irvin trade, it was Davis. Appreciate the correction. I’m 87% sure that’s in Boys will be Boys.

Ive never heard that Jimmy offered another year to Jerry.

Jerry v Jimmy.  Both these fucking guys....

It's obvious watching this that they were both complete fucking children and each wanted 100% credit for everything.  Was it so hard to say "I couldn't have done it without him?"  Jimmy was talking to Jacksonville during a Super Bowl run for god's sake because he was a petulant child.  We've since witnessed decades of fuckery from Jerry so we know what his deal was and is.

We're halfway through this and my wife astutely said "So, the Cowboys were only good when Jerry was only running the business side because he needed the money and left football to football people?"

And...... it appears Micah is preparing to get the, "My back is jacked, pay me" card.

Here's a little more.....

About those grievances..... yea, he already filed one.  This could get nasty and probably will tank the season.  Maybe Dallas just needs Charles Haley to put his helmet through the locker room wall and scare the piss out of Jerrah again.

Fun times when you have to deal with the Jones reindeer games....

Micah is such a punk.  He does not give a fuck about this team or his teammates.  He's lying when he says he does.  His actions scream otherwise.

His back is fine. He is working to scam his way through getting paid 21 million a year and not play, so he thinks they will be forced to trade him.

If he keeps this bullshit up, I hope they do figure out a way not to pay him.

I'd trade him for 3 ones, maybe 2 ones and a two.  It's not like this guy has been the piece pushing you over the top to the Super Bowl.

You never won anything with him, and probably won't without him.  Clear up the money and get rid of the headache.

Never stop being you

Micah is such a punk.  He does not give a fuck about this team or his teammates.  He's lying when he says he does.  His actions scream otherwise.

His back is fine. He is working to scam his way through getting paid 21 million a year and not play, so he thinks they will be forced to trade him.

If he keeps this bullshit up, I hope they do figure out a way not to pay him.

Why should Parsons give a fuck about the team when the owner doesn’t?

I'd trade him for 3 ones, maybe 2 ones and a two.  It's not like this guy has been the piece pushing you over the top to the Super Bowl.

You never won anything with him, and probably won't without him.  Clear up the money and get rid of the headache.

This is such a weird comment.  The stats are there for you to find.  Dallas is literally one of, if not the best defense in the league when Micah plays.  When he doesn't, the Cowboys are the 2nd worst.

If folk don't think Micah is an elite defensive player, basically top 5, then they either don't follow football, don't understand football, or simply suffering from an intense case of cognitive dissonance.....

I don't think anyone would mind if Jerry paid him now.

The question is why hasn't he?

He's right that they won't win with or without him, but that doesn't have anything to do with him. It's because the owner is an idiot who paid top of the league money to a broken down QB, waited and had to pay top money to the #1 receiver, and runs an organization with absolutely shit culture that doesn't prioritize winning above all.

Embarrassing. The only thing this franchise can hang it's hat on are accomplishments by people either dead or on social security. Why even bother replying to that? Roseman is the gold standard for NFL GMs and Jerry is the biggest piece of shit in the league.

And...... it appears Micah is preparing to get the, "My back is jacked, pay me" card.

The NFL labeled him a DE for contract purposes, not Dallas/Jerry.

It’s important to note that the Cowboys are not the primary counterpart in this grievance, it’s the NFL.

The CBA states that your fifth-year option is paid based on what position you play the most snaps at in your third year. The blurred lines between LB and DE make it tough to decipher, but it was the NFL that classified him as a DE.

Just had this conversation with a Cowboys source last week.

Jerry Jones is the Elon Musk of the NFL.  I was fortunate to attend SB XXVIII when Johnson had them on top, hard to believe the damage that a rich moron can do.

I think that is entirely wrong and fundamentally misguided.

I have the benefit of viewing this drama from the perspective of a non-Cowboys fan.  I was a Cowboys fan in the early 90's for those two Super Bowls, but hiring the Football Antichrist killed it for me.  Moving the team to Tarrant County put it in the ground.  Marrying a New Yorker shoveled dirt on the coffin (Go Giants!).

But regardless of whatever time I may support, the purpose of the Dallas Cowboys (and the New York Giants and the NFL as a whole) is to make money for its ownership.  It's a business.  That's it.  Its purpose is to sell shit to people who will buy it.  Winning football games is generally helpful to meeting that purpose.  But as Jerry Jones has demonstrated, it's not at all necessary.

@Iceman is entirely right in his assessment.  Jerry Jones is the most successful owner in the NFL.  He alone was responsible for driving the NFL's revenue stream over the past 35 years.  The team is now probably worth more than 100x what he paid for it.  That's not really due to any other ownership group; it's not really due to Roger Goddell's leadership.  It's largely due to the changes Jerry Jones pioneered, advocated, and implemented.

The Chiefs have more recent success than the Cowboys.  But the Hunt family owes Jerry Jones a huge debt of gratitude for making that franchise what it's worth today.  And do you honestly think that Clark Hunt wouldn't trade Jerry franchises tomorrow straight up?

Has Jerry damaged the on-the-field product?  I mean, yeah--maybe.

But when viewed through the perspective of the Cowboys as a money-making venture, maybe not.  Because what we want more than wins is drama.  And Jerry has delivered drama.  It's the best show in the NFL.  Hell--it's the best show in professional sports.  Again--I'm not a Cowboys fan.  But damned if I don't listen to Cowboys talk on the Ticket because it's entertaining AF.

Jerry has entertained the Metroplex (and really, all of America) for 35 years.  You want wins?  Go cheer for the fucking Eagles.  But if you want to be entertained, there's nothing better than this fucking circus.

This explains why I do not watch the Cowboys or Jerry Jones any longer.  Thanks

This team ain’t winning shit with him or without him.  He is the Dak of defense.  1 sack in his playoff games.  A player getting the biggest nonQB contract should be Lawrence Taylor/ Reggie White level of greatness.  He runs out of gas in a 17 game season.  I would have traded him.

Micah will lose that grievance.  The film of where he lines up is substantially as a DE. Not a LB.  He’s a nutjob.

I don't think that the Cowboys' popularity can stay immune to a lack of any success forever. I was born and raised in the Metroplex. Was a kid during the 90s Super Bowls, so I have those great memories. But I've lived in Houston for the last 15 years - the bulk of my adult life. I still consider myself a Cowboys fan first and foremost, but at this point it's hard to say that the Texans aren't more interesting, more likeable, and set up for more short- and medium-term success.

I feel my interest in the Cowboys slipping away in a way that my interest in the Rangers never has. I can get my football fix with college football.

Did you see the stat posted above?

He’s LITERALLY the best player on the Cowboys. He turns Dallas D from 2nd worst in league to best in league defensive EPA.

I would much rather pay him than Dak.

Jerry wants to build drama and WANTS to have the highest paid players. That’s why he waits to negotiate these deals.
