tweeting “check in with your people y’all” every time someone kills themselves does nothing.

This is where you’re wrong. Would it have mattered with royiv’s friend?  No. I suspect it does quite a bit with quite a few people.

are you serious.

this is what you’re defending as “an innocent, well intentioned comment”, followed by incessant shit talking to everyone else in the thread, and you think it’s *other* people who are being whiny? “oh poor me, i posted that all mentally ill people should think it over and wait for the sads to pass before killings themselves and now people disagree with me, whaaaaa.” what a joke.

Cry some more bitch. It’s apparently what you’re good at.

I wasn’t shit talking anyone liar until called dumb multiple times by the thought police. Fuck you.

Not when you’re responding negatively to posters saying check in with loved ones

where do you come up with this? you are living in a fairytale land where i’m “responding negatively” to you and disagreeing with you when ive literally pos repped your post and said to you, “i agree with everything you’re saying.” i have explicitly and repeatedly encouraged checking in with loved ones. you are just making up arguments out of thin air, and it’s a fucking beating.

It depends. Are you checking in genuinely because you care about their well being and want to make sure they know you are there? Or are you just doing it to check a box and pat yourself on the back and immediately forget about them after the check in. It's pretty easy to decipher which is which for the person on the other end.

i’d love to see the stats on lives saved by “check in on your friends y’all” tweets. it’s literally just this:

for suicide. nobody has ever decided to pass up on killing themselves because somebody else tweeted “check in on your friends y’all.”

the mere idea that checking in with your mentally ill loved ones is enough to stop someone from committing suicide is a false one. it’s simply not real. you can’t be by their side 24/7, and if that suicide demon comes calling, no amount of previous love, or “check ins” is going to matter. those are the facts.

nobody said you shouldn’t still check in. nobody.

You’re right. Holier than thou self flagellation fits better.

how do you figure that pointing out your idiotic ideas somehow equals “self flagellation”? do you know what any words mean? wait, why am i asking that of the guy who posits that mentally ill people who kill themselves should just wait for their feelings to pass and then move on with life?

I don’t think you’re responding negatively to me. Your opening salvo here or maybe second post was being critical of another poster suggesting we talk to our kids.

You’re all over the place. Nobody suggested tweets help. It’s being there and watching your kids/friends. Saying it saves lives is not provable because those people are still alive. But to suggest discussing mental illness and emotional well being with your kids, for example, is not helpful for their mental and emotional development is quite a take. Now that’s not what you said verbatim, but when you saying checking in stops 0.0% of suicides, you lose the room.

Because you’re a professional crybaby.

this is exactly what i’m talking about. i have explicitly said the exact opposite of this, repeatedly, and yet you keep making this same argument over and over and over, as if if that’s not the case. holy fuck man. stop it.

What’s the point? Nothing helps apparently. Just cry and yell at people who thought hanging on is a decent idea.

it’s the truth. no amount of love or “check ins” will matter if/when a person truly becomes suicidal. if you don’t understand this then you don’t understand mental illness. you can’t stock up on love and check ins and then access it when that suicide demon comes calling. it doesn’t work that way.

Well, I tried to keep it focused and flung zero poo.

I'm just going to say it was a tragic loss of life and I feel for the Kneeland family. Be kind to others and support your friends and family as best you can when they are suffering.

I'm out.

Sorry to hear about this guy but I really hate seeing the words “high speed chase” in any story because it puts the lives of others in danger. Since he appeared to escape the police chase, I assume the local law enforcement has a policy against following too close in these chases. Effectively letting them get away, and continue to look for them.

Wife's friend called her last night - she was on the tollway and said he almost hit her.  Knowing these two, I think this means he went speeding past her, but still.

Yes, and there is a giant chasm of time and action preceding this.  Most notably there are signs.  Signs that many afflicted do not recognize, nor would a specialist as they don't know the individuals baseline.  This is where family/friends play a critical role.  They are around these people.  They often see the subtle changes

We're also discussing "mental health" like it's a broken bone or singular disorder.  ADHD and insomnia are "disorders".  So is dyslexia.  Or heightened anxiety.  The DSM-5 has almost a thousand pages for a reason.  The dirty little secret is that we really don't truly understand mental health.  The complexity of the brain.  Overlapping symptoms.  Individual complexity of each person and how they express emotions.

In the case of this poor guy, we do know trauma changes the brain.  HOW it changes it is the secret sauce.  We also know that he played one of the most competitive games there is that is based on ruthless and objective meritocracy.  You miss a game.  You might lose a spot you spent your entire life trying to obtain at a position with the most predilection for CTE.

Bye week, yet we have something to hate for. Fudgepack vs fecals, who to root against more? Gotta go with potential help getting the fudge draft pick a bit earlier.

By the way i bowled a 216 last night in Marshawn's honor, my best game yet. What did you worthless motherfuckers do for humanity?

Anyway, hope that changes the discussion a bit. I will accept all hatred in order to get that done. You're welcome, sports fans.

Hating the Giants and Eagles has made everything worse because they have SB trophies in recent memory. Even fucking Washington had their run last year. Thanks for changing the conversation. Die Jerry Die.
