If all of Surly keeps lobbying 24/7 and lightning strikes a poor schmucky team (like my guys) gets blown out Saturday, this time next week you’ll all be doing Longhorn reach arounds, crowing, “We’re in!” and deservedly so, my comrades.

I just use it as a corollary to show SOS/SOR.  It puts the figures into numbers that any people can understand.  The truth is the committee values SOR highly, and Tech's would be terrible with two losses.

not highly enough apparently...

It doesn't matter bc they're out but Miami is the biggest head-scratcher of the whole rankings. 2-losses against a garbage schedule and somehow they're ahead of Texas and Vandy? Utah should even be ahead of them.

Also - ATM dropping behind Ole Miss is big for them. Unless BYU wins, they get ND/Bama round 1 instead of UVA (aka a bye). Hard to imagine a scenario where they move up to 6 at this point if teams truly aren't punished for CCGs (basically Tech or UGA would have to drop below them).

My guess after reading Surly analysis is in order for the committee to ensure Notre Dame remains in you have Miami up there otherwise it opens the door for Texas and Vanderbilt to slide in over both…and apparently there’s some hog law that SEC can only get 5 teams in

This is just mean.

Yes, he was talking about the 4-team CFP, but Leach’s thoughts on “committee” are still accurate.

Yeah, that sucks.

Frankly, I think Notre Dame being ranked ahead of both Miami and Texas is a bigger head-scratcher.  Notre Dame lost to Miami and played a schedule that, outside of the first two games, was ridiculously easy.  For chrissakes, Stanford is the 4th best win on Notre Dame's resume.  Think about that for a moment and then puke at the thought of Notre Dame being in the CFP.

Lots of head scratchers here for me and questions.

- I saw nothing on the field that would justify swapping Bama ahead of ND. Not that this is wrong, but last week ND was ahead and this week they are behind despite a tepid Bama game against Auburn and a typical ND blowout of Stanford. I have to think they are leaving some cushion to keep Bama in but drop them after a close CCG loss.

- Moving Ole Miss up after losing their HC and some staff is a surprise. I almost think they just didn’t want to face the media firestorm if they dropped them.

- How far realistically can IU fall if they get blown out by OSU. That’s entirely possible. It seems impossible to drop them past Oregon but….how do you not given their pretty weak SOS and SOR compared to SEC 1 loss teams. I think the committee really is hoping on a close game there.

- How far can you drop Tech if they lose? I’d guess at least past the other one loss teams, but then does BYU vault all the way ahead? I think that BYU is out though.

- Surprising to see two rematches in the first round. Of course one way or another Bama moves. But that could have been solved by simply keeping ND and Bama in the same order as last week. Goes back to my idea that they REALLY want a way to leave Bama in and now they have more cushion to drop them past ND and maybe even an ACC rep.

What makes you think that exactly?  Notre Dame hasn't proven shit.

The computers say otherwise.  Unless you look at a binary Win=1 Loss=0, you will notice that we only played two close games against good teams and lost each in the final 30 seconds.  The other ten wins ranged from decisive to blowout.

and then add the fact that ND lost to aggy and we beat aggy. common opponent, SOS, SOR, top 15 wins, everything is us over ND except for the loss column.

there is nothing on ND's resume that is better than Texas except for the loss column.   we even beat both common opponents and you didn't.

The only decent win was against USC and ND won by 10 and gave up nearly 400 yards of offense .

ND does not deserve to be ranked above Miami for sure and probably not Texas.

How far would they drop IU if they get blown out is a good question because it should have the same ramifications for Bama if they get blown out.

So tired of listening to these talking heads mention Texas struggle against Kentucky and MSU like no other team had close wins. Ducking Alabama just struggled against Auburn and moved up a spot.

yes I know. I hope our AD understands that all that shit about SOR/SOS, wins against top teams etc. is all bullshit finally.

If it's Texas vs Michigan?  Probably all of them:

1.    SEC Championship: Georgia vs. Texas    16.63 Million    Conference Title
2.    Texas at Ohio State:       16.6 million viewers      OOC
2.    Tennessee vs. Ohio State    14.68 Million    Playoff Game
3.
Indiana vs. Notre Dame    13.39 Million    Playoff Game
4.    Georgia at Texas    13.19 Million    Regular Season
5.    Michigan at Ohio State    12.30 Million    Regular Season Rivalry
6.    Georgia at Alabama    11.99 Million    Regular Season Rivalry

Tech will get the SMU treatment. If you're in before the CCG you don't lose that spot if you lose the game. Does not apply to BYU, UVA, and certainly not Duke, because none of them are currently in the field. The only thing that looks like it could plausibly change is if BYU wins it knocks ND out. I also assume they'll change the seeding to avoid two season rematches.

lol at this one. I mean yes, that’s clearly what the committee thought because that’s what they did. But it’s a long fucking way from an explanation. “We felt that was enough. Because….metric?”

There’s a lot of wriggle room in “won’t punish teams for playing in the CCG.” Under strictly legalistic terms, you’d say “no team should slide even one slot no matter the result of a CCG.” But that seems fairly stupid and by that reading Ohio State-Indiana has no meaning whatsoever save the conference trophy.

A less legalistic reading might be “if you were in the field before the game, losing won’t make you drop out.” (Which explains more of Bama’s rise than the bullshit “we did it cuz we felt like it.”) But even that hardly seems sustainable long term.

Agree. Seeding is fair game. And once Bama ended up first in the SEC standings winning the four way tiebreaker on conference strength of schedule it was enough to put them in the field and guarantee them a spot. If they lose to UGA it’s a perfect reason to swap them with ND to avoid the rematches. And aggy gets to show its true ass when bama blows them out.

I’ll tell you with a straight face as an Aggie fan that I’d rather catch Bama than ND again. DeBoer teams plod at times, get unfocused, and are capable of just not showing up against lesser opponents. ND is slightly less talented but Freeman is simply better at getting them ready for high-stakes games. Those two teams are on opposite trajectories late in the season.

To be fair, we constantly looked liked warmed over dog shit for most of the season. A 17 point win over fucking UTEP. The fighting hens from Delaware won by 30 against UTEP.

Sark mismanaged this season and this is the outcome.

Cancel all OOC games.  I only want to see directional Texas and or Louisiana schools moving forward.  Indiana played butthole state games out of conference.  This is the way.  ABC, espn and Fox can all eat dicks for the first 3 games of the season.

Texas has never been a media favorite we are the team people love to hate. I’ve never seen the benefit of the doubt go to Texas. When they say there were no assurances if Texas was a two loss team and beat or didn’t play Ohio state, I believe them. It’s taken clear and overwhelming evidence we belong to get the bid, kinda shocking really.

We’re going to finish #7 or 8 in the final AP poll…as a non-playoff team.

I'll be shocked it we are higher than 10 even if we beat Michigan.

I mean, TBD. This is the first time seeing a Bama DeBoer team in the playoffs. He certainly had Washington ready to fuck us up.

It's bullshit that Miami, BYU & Notre Dame might all get in ahead of us.

But guys, we're out of the CFP because we laid multiple eggs this season. Game after game we looked TERRIBLE. Even in games we won.
We even looked like shit in our two blowout games in September.

And we had a huge coach controversy, but let's not get into that. Which is probably what CFP is thinking too (we want none of that noise).

Yeah, we "started" getting things back on track at the end of the year. But that wasn't enough, apparently.
We don't deserve to be in the CFP. I WANT us in it, but we don't deserve it with as lousy and inconsistent as we've been.
