OU is going to get waxed by Bama in 2 weeks anyway making all of this moot if we keep winning. Simpson is not making the horrible plays that Aguilar did that kept OU in the game.

It's not about that, it's about if we end up with 3 losses and they end up with 3 losses. Obviously if we win out we are going to make the playoffs.

The polls this year have been a joke. We have been give n 0 credit for playing the #1 defending national champion on the road in the season opener down to the wire.

we were, in september, and we squandered it with a month of shit ending with swamp asswater

we've been bumbling and stumbling our way back

if we somehow beat georgia, we jump 0u, and credit will be restored

I agree, but I’m sure the voters are saying John Meteer wasn’t healthy which is BS but whatever

This. Their defense looked like shit last night.

Their qb was throwing left handed for that game!  Doesn’t count!

Both.  Be good enough for both.

I don't understand wanting bonus points for losing to osu.

Wish that would apply to all the teams and not just Texas

He looked fine out there. Our defense ate them alive and Arch made some big throws. Mateer is super overrated and that was the first real defense he played all year.

All sooner fans and some talking heads pregame: mateer is throwing darts in warmup. Texas is in trouble.

talking heads postgame:  thumb must have been bothering him.

I say this as a fan of college football so I stick by it, even if it might be painful and come December I say "Damn, why did we have to schedule Ohio St. this year!"

Win our games and it becomes moot and we got the benefit of a highly anticipated game. Get some more havoc the rest of the season and even with one more loss, who knows.

I'll continue to want to see marquee games as a fan of the sport.

with the playoff, which is much better, we traded needed being to be a 0-1 loss team for a shot to 2, maybe 3 loss team for a shot but in the era of super conferences the unbalanced schedule is going to leave a lot more 2 loss(pre conf champ games, which aren't supposed to penalize you and only help you) IMO.

when I see a 3 loss SEC team above a 1 loss Big 12 with a widely disparate SOS then I will believe there is something to it.  we will need more data in this 12 team scenario.

A 10-2 Texas team, with losses to FLA road and UGA road is in, regardless of rest of the schedule.

If we both end up with three losses, they won’t be ahead of us. OU adding wins over Mizzou (who likely ends up unranked) and a dead LSU team < Texas adding wins over Arkansas and either a top 5 A&M or Georgia team.

Because that loss shouldn’t count nearly as much for being week one and there still the best team in the nation.

Ladies and  gentleman, as of right now, Horns are in the 2 L category. ND and OU are ahead of us for various reasons. Keep winning Horns and this will take care of it in its own way. Controlling your own destiny is a big deal!

It’s still a fucking joke OU and especially ND is above Texas.

OU obviously both have 2 losses and we have the H2H.

ND doesn’t have a single win as good as Texas. And one of their losses is going to be unranked too.

OU is a media darling amongst the sportswriters. They have been since the Switzer years.

IMHO, Texas needs to win out in order to get in. There is no other way.  Too many Dennis Dodd/Pete Thamel/Mac Engel tyoe of sportswriters out there

All things considered, we're in pretty good shape. And that's kind of amazing.

Seriously

7-2 and have 3 really good scenarios remaining:

9-3, make it in on the strength of beating aggy or Georgia, Vandy, OU and losing by a TD to Ohio State

9-3, barely miss it for other results outside our control, but things look really good for 2026

10-2, in easily, potentially SEC champ participants again or we miss it and get extra rest and avoid a 3rd loss

If blOU had lost to Tennessee last night, it just would have been Tennessee ranked ahead of us instead. They're somehow still ranked at #23 despite three losses and zero quality wins, which is a joke in and of itself. At least we have a H2H win in our pocket for a potential tiebreaker situation.

I don't know if you realize this, but they do have to put 25 teams in the Top 25.

Iowa and Pitt are far better than Tennessee, both in terms of resume (quality wins) and eye test. Neither are ranked.

Thamel has already said it’s time to consider 9-3 Texas as a potentially in.

Color me surprised georgia has a game next week and we have a bye. I would have thought Kirby would have lobbied hard to have a bye before our game especially thinking we would have one. Guess georgia doesn't think much of us.

We also have to remember, when it comes down to it, Texas and Manning are going to bring the ratings bomb for the playoffs. The close road OSU loss and the improvement as the season went on are going to be all the excuse the committee needs to find a spot for us in the playoffs.

A&M has a bye before they play us. Just the way the scheduling cookie crumbled.

Can't wait for the ratings show.  Committee isn't perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than the AP poll.  I bet we will be ranked ahead of ND and OU on Tuesday, and be the highest ranked 2 loss team.

I'm guessing behind ND because of loss to 3-6 Florida.

I don’t think the thumb was bothering him in the least. Having your timing disrupted by a long layoff is real, and he was off all game. We fucked him up but I wouldn’t have wanted to play him the last two weeks with Taaffe out. But with him back, we’d win with a fully back Mateer and would be 5-7 point favorites in a neutral site. It is clear we are better and trending upward.

Sucks that BYU at Tech is at 11.  That should be the abc prime time game.

Probably a condition allowing us into the conference!    aggy, to me, has had a pretty soft schedule.  Hoping Missouri can burst their bubble.

I mean, yes, their schedule has been soft. Opened SEC play with 3 straight home games and got an FCS team the game before us. And had 2 tune up games before their big OOC Game
