RE: Damon Jones, and the Lakers being named:

Quote

The Feb. 9, 2023, game between the Bucks and Lakers that was referenced in the FBI’s investigation into sports betting was one that LeBron James did not play in. He was ruled out due to ankle soreness.

According to the indictment, Damon Jones, a friend of James’ who was not a formal employee of the Lakers, sold or tried to profit from non-public information so that others could bet on it, including alleged co-conspirators Eric Earnest and Marves Fairley. It was about who would not be playing or if they would pull themselves out of games early. Before the Feb. 9, 2023 Lakers game against the Bucks, Jones texted an unnamed co-conspirator that a player was out and they should bet the Bucks. The player was not on the injury report yet. He also gave information on the 2023-24 Lakers, including Player 4, who the DOJ said was one of the Lakers’ best players that season.

The Lakers are currently not available to comment. Team and league sources said that Damon Jones wasn’t an employee of the Lakers at the time of these allegations. He was allowed to be in restricted spaces such as planes and locker rooms as he worked with LeBron James.

Pretty casual of the Lakers to name-drop LeBron, even if he's fully innocent.  Pretty telling of the team's current relationship with him as well.

Disagree. Absolutely nothing came from the Tim Donaghy scandal. They just made him the fall guy, swept it under the rug and moved forward. Nothing has changed at all in the NBA since then. At all. Can't see much coming from this, either.

I wish it wasn't the case but with all these sports promoting gambling hard, this isn't any surprise.

Yep.  Scott Foster had the Donaghy stink all over him (still does) and they didn't even investigate.  Just made it all go away after Donaghy went down.

Yep, Scott Foster is still reffing big time games today, even has the moniker of the Series Extender. Players speak openly about seeing him in the refs assignment and tell us exactly how the game will go down and sure enough, it does. He was heavily involved in the Denver/OKC series, reffing in 2 critical games, game 2 and 7. Both went the same way. heavily slanted towards OKC. And really, it isn't him personally. He just completes the task the NBA wants and does it well. Tells me all I need to know about this league and how un-serious they are to beat these corruption scandals. They don't give a shit as long as the viewers and advertisers stick around.

OKC was 5-0 with Foster reffing their games in the playoffs.

Nothing to see here, though.

Shit, Caruso getting away with playing that way is why they won last year.  They don't get past the Nuggets without him being able to do that, and it's shit basketball to watch. Nobody wants to watch the less talented players just maul the more talented players every possession.

I think this is the appropriate way to address Caruso matching up with bigs.

Let’s get back to hoops. Has anyone heard of this Wembanyama kid? He seems pretty good.

So dope when a player really digs in and addresses a weakness in his game.    If he is really going to be this aggressive around the basket he is fucking unstoppable.    He looked like he was playing against kids on a 7ft rim last night.    Its like he finally figured out he is 7'6" and decided no one was going to stop him from dunking EVERYTHING!!    On top of all he can do adding that attitude to his game can make him one of the best players we've ever seen.

He was doing it against one of the best defenders in AD and theree was NOT ONE FUCKING THING AD COULD DO ABOUT IT!   As long as he stays healthy its going to be over for anyone else.

FREE THROWS

Game 2

36 with rate to FGA at .404% Fouls called against - 24

32 with rate to FGA at .368 Fouls called against - 29

Game 7

24 with rate to FGA at .250 Fouls called against - 19

22 with rate to FGA at .262 Fouls called against -19

Yeah, you can just tell by looking how heavily slanted the games were in favor of OKC. Especially, game 2, when Foster helped tip in some baskets so the Thunder could shoot 71% in the first quarter to take a 45-21 lead. Foster really carried them into the halftime lead of 87-56 by making sure the Thunder shot 18 FT while the Nuggets only got 16.  He really did his job when the Nuggets had the higher FT to FGA percentage in Game 7.

It's 2025, are we still judging ref bias strictly by the calls on paper? Lol. WAY more that goes into ref bias than strictly the calls on paper. For one, the no calls don't show up at all. Did you actually watch these games? Foster let OKC get away with much more on both ends of the court. Touch fouls called on Denver, while OKC was allowed to abuse Jokic all game. This causes the course of the game to slowly change and when a team sees this is happening, their approach can change. You think he got this reputation and nicknames on accident? He was directly linked to Tim Donaghy and still refs 2 decades later and players know exactly how a game will unfold just by seeing him in the ref assignments. But yes, nothing to see here from a league who is yet again in a gambling scandal.

The Thunder won those 2 games he reffed by an average of 38 points (they were 2-3 the other 5 games). He allowed OKC (specifically Caruso) to mug the shit out of Jokic, which is how they won the series.

You know it.  I know it.  We all saw it.

Same as the bitching in football game threads, “yeah penalties were the same but they were holding all game and it wasn’t called.” Season opening game replay of SGA doing his normal moves for a bucket and NBA Hall of Famers commenting on how perfect it is. Internet fans “arrgghh he pushed off arrhghhh”. I’ll go with the NBA guys. LOL at the touch fouls on us and no calls on rape by them. Fans gonna fan.

Game 4 of Finals that everyone bitches about and yet Carlisle is defending Foster, who called 12 fouls on Thunder and 11 on Pacers. Of course sofa fans think he tipped the scales by not calling 63 fouls on the Thunder.l It’s laughable.

I can’t imagine pick up games with some of you  “That was a foul. You fouled me again. Oh, I was fouled. Fouled again.”

Everyone should sit courtside at a NBA game sometime to try and understand the physicality of the game and what is not a foul.

It’s weird how the Thunder set the record for biggest point differential in history and somehow blew some teams out. And the other two refs on the court? Are they not allowed to call fouls? You said Thunder was 5-0 in playoffs with Foster. What about the other refs? Who else was “undefeated” with the Thunder.  One bloke claims Thunder were 14-9 with Foster in the regular season. I assume he was tanking in the regular season. But sure, the NBA conspired to get the two smallest markets into the Finals.

He IS!  That's exactly the point.   Wemby made him look completely inept.

It's a time honored tradition on here to complain about refs.  People will literally hate watch OU play another team and talk about holding the entire time.
