for years I was telling people the answer was 64 teams, reconfigured for some balance.  8 team divisions 4 conferences. 16 team playoff.  It was so obvious that you knew it wouldn't happen.

This is very close. But in my opinion conferences just need to go away completely and it becomes one "league." Perfect on eight, 8 team divisions. But they have to be balanced which means Texas and Oklahoma, Georgia and Alabama, Penn St and Ohio St probably need to be in separate divisions. And with a 5 game OOC schedule that would be easy to make as a permanent OOC rival ala SWC/BIG8.

A lot of the reason we are where we are is one league had so much more power cache than everyone else that it tipped the scales in their favor. We need balance divisions. Go TXHS style, top two from each division goes to the playoffs. No more subjectivity. No more penalty for great OOC matchups.

This bickering about which loss kept us out is silly.  Let's imagine a collection of road games against top 5 teams VS a collection of road games against teams barely in the top 40.  Which opponents are more likely in the long run to saddle us with losses (which are apparently the #1 criteria of the committee)?

you really missed an opportunity to start with "this bickering is pointless"

Did anyone bitch about the badass slate of games we got to watch?  I sure as fuck didn’t. I’d do it all over again, even knowing the outcome. Football fan should prioritize football watching over playoff manipulation.

I'm gonna be real with you— and yes I'm ashamed, I have no idea who she is. She's way outside my age gap. Like closer to 25-30 years my age. But she was hot in that photo, no doubt.

She looks to have amazing tits, or at one time did.

Even using BCS system we aren’t in

yes, the BCS heavily weighted the loss column as well due to pollsters/humans overweighting the loss column dramatically.  it was flawed also.  you can look at historical BCS outcomes and it is 95% by loss column especially for P5.  humans don't take SOS into account very much at all. in the BCS era the P5 conferences were basically looked at as equal with the SEC getting a boost.  G5 was had to be undefeated to even be considered most of the time.

the key is to minimize losses however you can as there is no real desire by humans to look at details beyond that.

Not only that, but the average voter can't even really do the eye test well.  All they know is final score.

I will say the BCS is better because you have a lot of people on the human side of the equation to minimize one persons bias(Bohls) v 13 people that have ridiculous bias.  It is better for breaking ties at the least.

what I would do is weight the computers 60% and the humans 40%.  I think it was 33/33/33 computers/AP/Coaches.

Sark got the message from the committee (quote from his press conference today is below). So we just have to have as good or better record than some teams that have much easier schedules.

"One thing we've learned under the current format, we've got to win more games and we've got to win the games that are right in front of us. And it doesn't matter how hard your schedule is, that doesn't matter. It matters what your record is."

Well no shit, Steve. It’s always been that way. Now make it easier on yourself to make your record better than others.

good.  it is funny that anyone would believe otherwise after decades of evidence.  I said that I'd believe it when I see it when a committee moves down a team with 1 loss with a SOS in the 40's or 50's, even with a team that has 3 losses and a top 10 SOS.

They can't even do that for a 1 loss difference much less 2.

they also don't care about quality wins.

The other thing I hope he learned is that there are no bonus points for taking your foot off the gas.  if you want to play backups keep throwing, keep blitzing, run up the score when you can.  I realize we couldn't do that much this year but there will come a time.  the good kids who graduate is over, not embarrassing your coaching counterpart is over, get with the program or get gone.

Back to the computers again?

Good!

I'll write the code so that Texas objectively makes the CFP every time and each computer rankings will make it look _so objective_ that every person that trusts computers will immediately say, "Welp, garsh! The computers told me Texas is in the CFP, so, okily-dokily, I guess that MUST BE TRUE, huh-huh!"  Lulz.

TL;DR - Computers ARE NOT IMPARTIAL when you can program any and all biases you want into them! You're a Fool if you believe college football computer-rankings are objective.

Still shouldn't be getting deep dicked by a dogshit 4-8 team. The OSU game was scheduled a decade ago and the team didn't have control over playing OSU. Sark and the team did have control over shitting the bed against Florida and then getting styled on by Georgia.

The Florida loss was horrible and bad, on the same scale as the fucking Kansas loss a few years ago. Inexcusable for any team that claims to be champion caliber

They can cancel any non con game just have to pay cancel fee. Sure didn’t hurt Alabama losing to a worse team.

It was not a good loss but JFC this is a dumb take.  UF is a top 20 roster, easily.  Kirby said as much yesterday.  They were a poor coached team that underachieved (and playing #2 SOS didn't help them).  But a healthy motivated UF could give any team in the country a game.   Just ask UGA and Ole Miss.   I was there about 15 rows up and they "looked" every bit of a top 10 team.  They had dudes.  And that was damn near the only game Dallas Wilson played and he looked like a top 5 receiver in the country.  Again, we should have beaten them, and they had some inexcusable losses, but acting like they are fucking Kansas is just dumb.  A lot of NFL talent on that team.

Well, I'm not a Star Wars geek.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Anyway, Notre Dame picking up their ball and going home since they (rightfully) did NOT earn a playoff berth is the funniest thing about this whole postseason.

First off, you don't see Texas whining about this. "It's not about what happened to us, it's about what are we going to do moving forward." And yeah, Michigan is a great opponent, Orlando is a great place to play. Nothing shitty about that. ND vs BYU in the absolutely legendary Pop Tart bowl would've been great, too. That ND can't see that just shows how petty and stupid it is.

Having both of our teams out will move the playoffs to 16 teams, at a minimum, and sooner rather than later. We both have a right to be in it, and everyone knows that, to say nothing of the sheer money being left on the table. I'll be surprised if the Citrus Bowl doesn't get more eyeballs and generate more money than most of the playoff games.

But ND's little hissy fit is gonna be remembered, and not in a nice way. I think this will be the moment that Notre Dame will more or less permanently move into the realm of "Great CFB Has-Beens That Never Will Be Again" along with Yale, Rutgers, Georgia Tech (sorry, bugs) and Clemson (lol).

Just as bad or worse - bama shouldn't have been in the playoff if Texas wasn't.

And the Hoosiers are a bottom 50% roster on paper - but they just beat Ohio State and claimed the undisputed #1 overall in the country. It's not just about the talent, it's about the coaching and the playcalling. Sark's failure to gameplan for UF was THE killing blow for our chances at competing for a title this year.

A top whatever roster doesn't make a shit, it's about how the team actually performs on the field. And UF was a dogshit team this year, that beat a very VERY mismanaged Texas team this year. Sark laid down and phoned that game in. This is the consequence of his failure.

9-3 is not a bad record, all things considered. Unless you care about playing for national championships.

They also blew their schedule out. As did Texas Tech - I saw an insane stat they won by 20+ more than any other team since like before wwii

It's absolutely not good.  I've bitched about it all season, but have been told "Morton is better than average."

It's either Morton or the play calling but someone screws the pooch on the regular in that department.
