OU is ahead of Texas because they have one less loss and road wins over Tennessee and Alabama.

Committee also recognizes that Mateer is healthy now and a big reason why they are where they are.

My point is our OOC isn't any better than their OOC schedule.

Now, if you wanna bang on their SEC sked, you've got a point.

How these "informed" voters put UT behind OU and Vandy is one of life's great mysteries.

loss column is about 90% of the deal regardless of who you play if you are Big Ten or SEC.  there is no reason for any SEC to risk a loss.

not sure if Sark could have prevented it but he doesn't realize this is a beauty contest with judges who are abject morons.

Schedules are made years in advance, so I don't think Sark considered how an early-season loss to OSU would hurt our playoff chances. Do y'all really think this team is championship-caliber? If so, I respectfully disagree.

I'm talking about giving up the 14 points to Ark late.  he doesn't get it.  we are in a beauty contest at this point.  we needed to play to the final gun and try to make it 60+ to 20 something.

also, it doesn't matter, I want to be in the playoffs.

Lots of teams that aren't championship caliber are going to get into the playoff ahead of Texas.

I'd rather Texas be in the mix with a chance to keep playing, than not.

I think we should get all the surly posters together and making a song and dance video for the team to fire them up for the aggy game. We can get some kegs and I'll handle making refreshments with what I have in the fridge.

"Surly," the musical would be better.

It might surpass the Ken Burns docuseries.

The same Mateer who had more INT’s than TD passes against Bama and TN? The OU defense has carried them for the last month and been pretty unreal doing it.

this.  if we both have 2 losses with ours being Fla and Geo on the road we are ahead of OU right now guaranteed.

Their offense is much better now than against Texas.

Agreed, which is why we'll need to beat aggy by 20+ to have a Chinaman's chance in hell of qualifying.

Hey, I laid 13.5 vs aggy back in August. How dumb was that? Don't drink, shit-talk, and gamble, kids.

The bottom line: if we had scheduled, like, Wyoming for the first game - we would be 9-2 heading into the aggy game and an absolute lock to get in with a win - Florida loss and all.

I get that there are a lot of moving parts, but if we miss the playoffs then the lesson we will unquestionably learn is that we shouldn’t schedule tough OOC games.  I’m not convinced that’s a lesson the committee wants to teach.

If we beat Aggy, that would give us 3 top 10 wins for the season. Hard to imagine an SEC team with that record being left out but that could very well happen because Florida.

What about not having Michigan returning the home and home this season instead of having OSU on the road?

That would have been a much more winnable game.

Florida being ass the rest of the way didn't help.  if we piss pound aggy(unlikely with Akina's DB's) then we could offset the FLA loss.

but you are correct for SEC teams.  you can play Minn/Mich State/Cal/Virgina Tech/Boston College.  until they really consider SOS as a bigger factor it just makes no sense to give yourself a chance for a loss.

The teams you've listed are all low-level P4, and you're correct in your assessment.

The committee oftentimes gives lip service to SOS. The marquee home-and-homes are great for our fans and TV.

Everyone is wringing their hands over playing/losing to the OSU. This ^^^ is the loss that is really the problem. They are a bad football team, + in conference.

ND is the only team to beat the snot out of Arky this year (56-13). The Razorbacks offense has been pretty productive. They lost to Aggies 45-42. That gives me hope that the Ags have a weak spot, I'm just not sure Sark can find it. His record against top five teams is abysmal. His teams can put together some great quarters, but they have dead spots that open the door for opponents. Have we played a game this year where we look like we have it together for four full quarters?

(In reality, we kinda beat the snot out of Arky too, if you take out some trash time scores.)

We need to have great games on both sides of the ball. We've got to pressure their QB and the secondary has to step up. Ags are probably thinking the same thing about us. Our running game is not where it needs to be to give us an edge against Aggy. Maybe they'll step up. Maybe Sark will step up

The way our def played today. Reed will connect on a lot of passes.    We looked disorganized out there.  aggy def is better than Arky. We will need another arch hero game

It’s the Florida loss and 8 shitty games win or lose. Let’s face it, outside of OU, Vandy and Arky, Texas has looked like shit.

if Texas looked good all year and had 3 losses including say an OT loss to Florida and a 7-10 point loss to Georgia, but won by two scores at Ms St and UK, it could different.

but when you look at say Utah, you think we definitely beat them? What about Georgia Tech? Miami? Yeah these teams are mid, but so is Texas. It’s not really debatable.

Yeah, I don't get all of the hand-wringing over getting left out of the playoffs. This isn't a championship team.

On the one hand, if we made the CFP, we keep playing a couple of games, maybe spoil some shit.

On the other, though, I'd really prefer to be in the CFP as a contender.  If we're not, I don't think I care.

Well if we don't make the playoff then the season was meaningless now. You know like how today was not enjoyable at all because we won't make the playoff. Like how beating OU doesn't mean anything since we won't lose in the first round in Lubbock or Eugene.

Only if they have the football. Our O has to control the game. No fuck ups. No penalties. Spread the ball around. Hit hard and hit fast.

It looks like we blitzed more in the second half today and that made all the difference. If we don't blitz, Aggy will pick us apart.

This season has been a huge disappointment, at this point seeing OU and Aggy fail to win anything meaningful is what keeps me going. Let’s sweep our rivals, see A&M miss the conf championship game and get bounced early and OU bounce early in the playoffs and I’m good. That plus the holidays can get me to baseball season.

Missing a 12-team playoff is kind of a bad look and probably hurts recruiting.

This had been pointed to as sort of a big year for Texas as Manning had been groomed to take over at quarterback and with all those stacked top 5 recruiting classes and the NIL and portal, how could we not make it.

  • Hook 'Em 1

Well, we always seem to overstate the impact of a not-great season on recruiting.

But I think the shitass OL and offensive play and now defensive play raises the questions more thoroughly than CFP or not.
