Lakers are done. No chance they get in the playoffs after tonight barring some kind of miracle.

watching them mail it in like this is surreal. they've all given up. lebron is traveling and double dribbling and absent mindedly losing the ball on every single play. just standing around or going half speed like it's some warm up. every nuggets player is going for every rebound and loose ball, and the contrast in effort is stark, and frankly shocking. never seen anything like this from a LeBron team.

There's a lot of things you can say about Rondo but at least he has enough about himself to play hard every night. It's crazy to me that anyone can think that LBJ is the GOAT, because despite the fact that as a players he's MJ's equal, there's so many little things about his attitude, effort, priorities, etc, that pale in comparison to MJ, or in this case Rajon Rondo.

The way Jokic creates space with his eyes is amazing. He just got a teammate who was covered at the top of the key open simply by looking towards his teammate on the wing as he geared up to pass. the LAL player guarding the DEN player left his man as he fell for the fake and the Nuggets got a wide open look at an in-rhythm three from right up top. you can't coach that.

Bulls beat the Sixers at the last second

Lavine and Boylen seem to be getting along well now.   They have a nice core of Dunn, Lavine, Lauri and now Otto Porter to build on/with.

Warriors best players net rating with and without Cousins. Pretty big swing that's hard to ignore or explain away. He doesn't seem to be helping them and needs to come off the bench.

Yeah, there is a reason they want Bogut right now.  The most alarming thing in this beyond Cousins is Green's defensive rating which confirms what most eyeballs know this year -- he is not the same player he has been the last few years.  That and their weakened bench gives (a little) hope to other contenders, but you still feel like they can turn on a switch and play much better as we have seen on a number of prior championship teams.

Does Derka need a gofundme to open a twitter account, or will he keep using surlyhorns as his liveblogging platform?

I dunno, maybe we should open a gofundme so you can open a twitter account where you can complain about Derka all you want.

So with the Lakers basically being out, when does Lebron sit with the effort of improving the draft pick? A better pick certainly makes it easier to land AD especially if Kyrie leaves the Celts

Should I do it over 7 consecutive posts, each with a small fart of thought that breezes out my ass?

Somebody should go find some of the takes on Lebron and the Lakers in the early part of this thread. There would be some hilarious takes looking at them now.

Not sure why so many people thought Lebron could carry that roster to the playoffs in the West.

Lebron had this team on the right track. Once he became injured, that roster could not hold its own. Weren't they in the top 4 when he got injured? When he got back from injury, they could not get back on track at all.

His defensive effort has to be criticized to no end. He's not even trying out there. Seems very lazy. That is unacceptable.

But a lot of people came to the conclusion this move to LA was way more than basketball. That he conceded to the Warriors in terms of championships and now is solely about growing his own personal brand. Being an A&R and working with rappers. Acting. Maybe he's content with his accomplishments in the NBA. It's a very toxic atmosphere right now in Laker town and he's right in the middle of it.

They were. But it was still only ~2 games up of the 8 seed at the time.  After the top 2-3 teams, the West always seems to be bunched, with one bad stretch able to drop you all the way down.  I think they make the playoffs if LeBron doesn't get hurt, but I don't think that it would have been comfortably.  They had a nice stretch before the injury, where it looked like they were learning to play together...but their good early season defense wasn't sustainable with the personnel they have.  Mediocre defense and awful shooting does not a home playoff series make.

But they're losing to Phoenix, Memphis, and the Clippers without Tobias Harris in must win games in March, so injuries are no longer a valid excuse.

Lakers realize they have a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs! Glorious! If the Lakers had any sense they'd give Magic the axe along with Luke Walton. Trading off Lou Williams was a dumb move, Giving Caldwell-Pope 30 million over 2 years was laughable, trading Zubac for an expiring contract didn't make a lot of sense. Signing guys like Beasley to "mentor" the younger players was brilliant. The Anthony Davis saga portrayed the Lakers as a joke just like when they lowballed the Spurs for Kawhi. There are going to be a lot of marquee free agents available this year and I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers strike out on the majority of them and end up overpaying like they did for Deng/Mozgov in the past.

Or, perhaps even worse, Boogie and Jimmy Butler
