Lacuna Coil's latest album has some good stuff. "Scarecrow" has Scabbia doing some great high notes, and I like the last track on the album.

They're still slamming the limiter with the mixes like it was 20 years ago still, though, so it's tiring and dull to hear after a while. And the band outside of Scabbia is pretty mid, though I like their harmonies. You know, that's why she's so short; from carrying that whole band for all these years...

They got an appearance from Randy Blythe on a track. I know this because I read the liner notes, not because I can tell one guy's death growl from another. On that note, Lamb of God is exactly the kind of band I'd love if I'd been paying any kind of attention to anything outside of career and family between 2000-2010. I need to do a deep dive into their catalog.

Dude, start with Sacrament and it will rock your face off.

It does. But I kinda get bored after that. 😞

I've tried to remain interested in Lamb of God, but I never listen to anything other than Ashes of the Wake.  I do give each new one a cursory listen when it's released.

Same with Lacuna Coil. It's Comalies, full stop.

To each their own. It’s a big metal tent. But I would put Walk With Me in Hell up as one of the best metal songs in history.

New Bloodywood album dropped today, Nu Delhi (ha!).

Starts strong:

This includes the "Nu Delhi" single from last year, and "Bekhauf," their collab with Babymetal:

I dig Spiritworld but Helldorado is pretty uneven. Love the metal songs, can't stand the others.

yeah it's weird. the songs that don't sound like slayer are shockingly bad.

I think I've finally recovered from Hell's Heroes. VIP was 100% worth it to be able to quickly walk between the balcony over the lawn to the inside upstairs between bands. I saw every band except like 3 or 4 and that includes the whole pre party and after parties every day.

Had a great fucking time!

Admitted thrash apologist here, but I think these guys are fucking great. Breakdown at 2:43 is a neck crusher:

People apologize for thrash?

any Immolation fans in the house? their stuff doesn't always hit for me, but when it does it's sublime. love their complex song structures and old-school heaviness. fun to see live. caught them many moons ago at some weird venue is SA that was in a strip center nowhere near downtown. will see if I can dig up the name. my strongest memory is the venue was WAY too lit up during the performances. it was like watching death metal in the middle of the food court. anywho, happy Saturday y'all

What were the highlights? I'm going to the Milwaukee Metal Fest instead this year, but probably back to Houston next year. I'm especially looking forward to Paradise Lost, Death Angel and Dusk (pretty obscure doom from Green Bay) next week. And the beer and brats.

Sneakers? I saw Danzig and Soundgarden there. Or the Showcase on West Avenue? Saw lots of death metal shows there in the early 90s while I was at UT.

Mean Mistreater stole the pre party imo. Thursday Abbath killed main stage, Castle Rat was great and Bewitcher as always. I had seen Worm at Empire Control Room indoors before and was disappointed after loving their albums, they were fantastic in the after party. Friday Cavalera, Nasty Savage and Haunt were great, Departure Chandelier and Hulder were the highlights. Saturday Coroner and White Magician were great, Saxon surprised me and kicked ass for the main stage closer. Hellripper were one of the best shows for the whole festival and Spectral Wound were fantastic as well. The constant moving around of heavy metal to thrash to death metal to black metal was a ton of fun.

I'm not a huge black metal fan, but I saw Spectral Wound for the first time at HH 2 years ago and was really impressed. Talked to the guys the next morning at breakfast and they were very cool. Ended up seeing them again last year and they blew 1349(headliner) off the stage.

I caught Coroner in Atlanta in March for the first time since the early 90s, and they'd barely lost a step. Didn't get a chance to tell them about my avatar though

Nasty Savage was good? I watched some recent videos and Ronnie sounded awful. It's just him and 4 random dudes at this point.

Hah, it was more so how much the crowd got into Nasty Savage.  I think he couldn't physically break tvs on his head anymore so it was more of a toss the tv in the air and it would clock him over and over. Main stage sound had some moments of bad mixes, but they were on the better end for the most part. Yeah I've never been too impressed with 1349 live.  Also I thought Worm was death doom until I saw them live and they were all corpse paint with the singer swinging a sword.
