I know plenty of Trump supporting conservatives under 40.  This idea that their politics will be buried with the boomers and Luby's crowd is wishful thinking.

No it’s not. Trump supporters among the young are a definite minority. I know a few who support trump too but they will be overruled overwhelmingly.

Yes this is what it looks like. And I suspect that Trump and the Tea Party have a lot to do with it.

This shit is still fixable.  Those of you declaring it over and done with are just frustrated that logic, reason, and history hasn’t worked to stem the tide of stupidity. Well, no shit.  Half of the US population is below average intelligence.  And you’re surprised they don’t appreciate the consequences of Trump’s attacks on political norms and constitutional ideals?  We need to stop pounding our heads against the wall of logic and start making arguments that have a chance of actually working.

on a micro level, sure.  we all know individuals who are reasonable people, and maybe we can get to them.

on a macro level, you're kidding yourself.  nothing happening matters.  nothing he does matters.  nothing we say matters.

you wanna know how i know?  because he's the most embarrassing, the most corrupt, the most inept president in the history of organized government, and his numbers aren't going down.  he's in charge while the economy is thriving.  and his numbers aren't going up.

this tells me that the people who approve will always approve.  if the last 3 years haven't changed their minds, nothing will.  and it also tells me that the people who disapprove will continue to do so, until they (we) vote him out of office.  the good news is that his approval is 40-41.  his disapproval is hovering around 56-57.  those numbers have never gotten anyone elected.  he'd essentially have to run against hitler's grandson to have a chance, or seriously rig the voting machines in 6-7 states.

if dems don't pick Harris, Trump will win and the hari kari activities on MSNBC and CNN will be even better than last time.

that's an awfully confident phrasing of a completely inaccurate statement.  but i like harris too.

8 dems would beat trump right now, regardless of their positions on....anything.

i love the weird confidence emanating from the right after the debates.  makes things so much more entertaining.

its the economy, stupid...Harris has qualities that can overcome the economy.  the rest are retreads or just plain dumb(Beto being the leader of the dumb bunch).

if the economy tanks I agree any of 4 or 5 could win.

economy's been good for a while.  trump's numbers haven't budged in 8 months.  things don't matter anymore, people don't like him.

put simply, hillary clinton is not walking through that door.

and olds are the only ones who pick up their landlines and talk to pollsters.  it's likely much worse.

i've heard all the talking points.  pocketbook, healthcare, socialism, yawn.

he scored an unlikely victory by 80,000 votes in 3 states against an unlikable candidate.  you think he's won that many people over since then by being such a tremendous president?  you think people who voted "against hillary" are going to automatically vote "against warren/harris/bernie/biden"?  you think people who voted for hrc or the "never-trumpers" are gonna change their minds based on the economy?

He's Hillary Clinton in 2020.

People cannot wait to vote against him.

how about we do this...if it is anyone but Harris v Trump and Trump wins you are off the politics board for 2 years.  if the field(sans Harris) wins I'm off for 2 years.

sure dude, whatever you want.  not sure why a bet that's 17 months away is where you're taking this.  guess you're just out of "points" to make.

the thing is, i don't want you off the politics board.  that's not how my thought process works.  when trump loses, i'll want all his fans around (though i'm sure they'll be scarce).  you should feel the same way.

Why? It’s a free country. At least it is until the Republicans control everything.

He didn’t really win.  Carter is right. The polls were right. The Russians manipulated the vote in Michigan Wisconsin Pennsylvania and a few counties in Florida. Gave him the victory. Trump is not the president. He’s a Russian asset.

your bit is pretty funny I must admit.

The president of the United States has been accused by Robert Mueller and the Southern District of New York of being a felon.

It's not a stretch to think that running for re-election is a 50/50 proposition.

I don’t know if his health can withstand another campaign run.  Reading his transcripts you can already tell he’s not all there and it looks more and more like Ivanka is trying to play the role of primary caregiver/handler.

He must still be getting the good drugs from Dr. Ronnie. Give him a horse tranq on the flight home. He'll be 100% on Monday.

You're right tho. He looks out of it when he goes overseas.

I'd bet you even money. If there was a way to trust anonymous people on the Internet, I'd let you name your price.

If that worked, Trump wouldn't be rock-solid at 40ish % no matter what he does.   People have been trying to work on their relatives for 3 years, and the ones who remain fervent Trump supporters just don't care.  You can point out who will be hurt all you want, but they won't believe you because it's all fake news to them.  It's a cult, and it's extremely hard to talk someone out of being in a cult.   Unless you've got a deprogrammer on retainer, it's not going to happen.

Trumpkins are in this until the bitter end. Fuck the lot of them. I speak with two members of my family who voted for Dotard and that is solely because they are not fully indoctrinated into his cult of bullshit. I do not feel bad about not contacting the others who voted for him.

National Park Service acting director P. Daniel Smith faces plenty of looming priorities this summer, from an $11 billion backlog in maintenance needs to natural disasters like the recent wildfire damage to Big Bend Park.

But in recent days, another issue has competed for Smith’s attention: how to satisfy President Trump’s request to station tanks or other armored military vehicles on the Mall for his planned July Fourth address to the nation.

Quote

The ongoing negotiations over whether to use massive military hardware, such as Abrams tanks or Bradley fighting vehicles, as a prop for Trump’s “Salute to America” is just one of many unfinished details when it comes to the celebration planned for Thursday, according to several people briefed on the plan, who requested anonymity to speak frankly.

White House officials intend to give out tickets for attendees to sit in a VIP section and watch Trump’s speech, but did not develop a distribution system before much of the staff left for Asia last week, according to two administration officials. Officials are also still working on other key crowd management details, such as how to get attendees through magnetometers in an orderly fashion.

Quote

Traditionally, major gatherings on the Mall, including inauguration festivities and a jubilee commemorating the start of a new millennium, have featured a designated event producer. But in this case, the producer is the president himself.

Trump has demonstrated an unusual level of interest in this year’s Independence Day observance, according to three senior administration officials. He has received regular briefings about it from Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, according to the people briefed on the plan, and has weighed in on everything from how the pyrotechnics should be launched to how the military should be honored.

Quote

Trump has also spurred the use of military aircraft for a flyover, including one of the jetliners used as Air Force One. In addition, the Navy’s Blue Angels were supposed to have a break between a performance in Davenport, Iowa on June 30 and one in Kansas City, Mo. on July 6, but will now be flying in D.C. on the 4th.
