I'd put Knopfler in that camp. He's super proficient but he has a way of connecting with big audiences who aren't guitar geeks. I suspect it's (a) superior songwriting and (b) very pedestrian singing.

It's so funny to see the pains you go to defend the legal process when your defense boils down to "the law doesn't matter and is in fact a lie." You don't even realize it, but you're effectively admitting that the people who are angry but don't know shit about the law are still fundamentally correct in their take on it.

Texas House Republicans are holding hostage critical legislation to aid flood victims and advance property tax relief by insisting that the first thing taken up is out of state political concerns.

bump Didn't want to start a new thread for this. Anyone ever had a dentist that seemed to pile on excessive work for you to milk your insurance? I started going to my current dentist about 3 years ago after a very very long time of never going to any dentist. However I took good care of my teeth and don't really have a sweet tooth so I never had anything bothering me. But I wasn't surprised when they told me I needed some fillings (like 4-5) since it had been so long. Over the course of the next few years, every time I went in there they seemed to find more cavities that needed filling, and we're talking tiny little composite fillings that seemed unnecessary to me. Recently I started noticing her start to schedule fillings for me that were never even discussed with me. I always had good insurance so basically never had to pay for shit which is probably why I never really made an issue out of it. Today I get a call from them to remind me of my next appt next week, which they tell me they have 3 hours blocked off for. I'm like "the fuck?". Turns out it's for a crown....... a crown that the dentist never once told me I needed. This would be a 2k bill that I would have to pay half of out of pocket. I promptly told them to fuck off and that I no longer wished to be a patient of hers any longer. Am I crazy? Or is this something that happens? I bet over the last 3 years I've gotten like 15-20 fillings done by her and I long suspected that she was milking it because I had such good insurance (my company ins changed this year to a crappier one). Now that I'm starting to have to pay a lot more, the party is over.

I just wrangled the kit I built my daughter back from her, since she's playing Gretsch Renowns these days. Small (20" kick) Keller maple shells, "hand-stained" matte black (meaning I did a shitty job). She has an Istanbul cymbal endorsement so I might get some of her hand me downs, but I need recs for hardware (pedals, stands, throne). Nothing road-worthy needed, I'm thinking PDP or the like?

Elk seems like a lard ass with no handle on discipline or effort. I would literally look at this sloppy fat ass and wonder why I have to put in the effort when his muumuu wearing fat ass is standing on the sideline. And then they overpaid for my mediocre ass to come here, so at least I got paid for a year. There are some coaches you look at and you know they're out there with their guys, running, working out, etc. And then you have Elko, who looks like he spent voluntary workouts eating pints of Ben & Jerry's in his office and watching out the window. -
Come on. You guys really expect these 51 people to stay out of Texas, away from their home and families, live on nothing for an entire year. Cause that is what it would take. Lets see any of you do that. This is performative and to garner national attention and for other, more rational states, to maybe counter a bit or at the very least start a national dialog about extreme gerrymandering. That is all they can do with the voting minorities the good people of Texas have provided. The population of Texas deserves the shit representation they have voted for for almost 50yrs.

Similar pain in the ass getting my Red Sox tix a couple of weeks ago. Bought through SeatGeek (which I already had). Then when it came time to download, told me I had to go through the MLB app (which I also already have). Then when it comes time to download, I'm not sure which app they'll actually come through from. So, have to click through both....MLB app has no idea what I'm talking about, the tickets just show up on SeatGeek. And I don't trust SeatGeek, because it fucked us on concert tickets a few months ago (tickets are supposed to show up "the day of the show"). They don't show up. And hours beforehand, I'm trying to connect with SeatGeek to solve the issue, and they make finding the customer service portal IMPOSSIBLE. I use their "chat" function, which is just a bot that says "yeah, your tickets will show up." They don't. We buy two additional tickets on the fly as we get to the show, then sit in our original seats. I complain to SeatGeek. They say fuck you. I invoke their full dispute process, including invoking a demand for arbitration. I write up a full complaint, with attached evidence. They eventually say "it's still your fault that you didn't find the hidden portal, but fine, we'll give you your money back." You know what doesn't have this problem? Real tickets, in my real hands. -
I love that Matt and Trey are fully in their era of Need to make a trip to Casa Bonita to support those guys. I can see it from my house (no Sarah Palin)

I'm having fun! I doubt it will go on for long. I joined when it was announced that Texas would join the SEC, but I didn't have any desire to post until Georgia fans and talking heads lost their collective minds after the Atkinson, Johnson, Cooper commitments. Yes, it is trash, though.

Son and daughter are a bit different about hanging out with people IRL instead of virtually, although son has grown into more real-life visiting. He and his core group, even when they get together, often game, but they need to get together less. I think it's one of the reasons a big state school has worked out well for him; the greater anonymity and potential isolation are no big deal. His core group has been together forever, though. Four guys who've been buddies since 4K and early elementary school. Two other dads and me have become part of our weekly happy hour that's been going five years now, and the young men have all aged into occasional happy hour visits together with the dads. It's pretty cool stuff. They were all home for Thanksgiving two years ago and ended up gravitating onto our patio for a firepit session with the adults on Wednesday night, including a couple of their girlfriends. One of my favorite holiday memories. His sister's only named choice so far is following him to the Twin Cities (we're still not sure she knows he won't even be there if she arrives), but I suspect a smaller school is going to be one where she thrives. Her in-person friend time is so much more important, but it's also changed a lot more. There are more young women passing in and out of the various friend alliances. Part of my efforts with her is to get her really thinking about where she finds a sense of community and togetherness, but without being overt about it, during this process. It's why I am really prioritizing school visits and relying on my son to talk a lot with her about those things.

Wish we could have seen his answer there. Probably would've been more compelling of your point.
