Talarico is 100% a better candidate for most Texans than anybody in the race from the Republican side. By a fucking mile. If you can't -- or won't -- see that based on what is playing out in front of your eyes, ain't nothing here likely to convince you. Voting Republican in ANY race helps Trump/MAGA keep majorities in ALL facets of government. It's only been eight months and look at the damage he's caused -- and continues to cause on a near daily basis. But Kamala was a terrible candidate. Boo-fucking-hoo. Worst case scenario with Kamala is that we fiddle-fart around for four years with ADULTS doing the really important shit and we pick somebody else in 2028. Worst-case scenario with Trump is a complete immolation of the Constitution and the Trump Monarchy has begun. Mike Judge's vision of future America becomes reality. But, hey, Kamala was an "idiot." You've got to look at the bigger picture here. This country is in a struggle for her life. The answer is staring you right in the face. Get rid of the scourge that is MAGA and then (only then) can we get back to the typical Dem-Rep squabbling that is 'normal.' And this.

So the Treaty Clause is the latest section of the Constitution to be erased?

Do I get to start the James Talarico thread?

I think Talarico has a fighting chance. I think Nathan Johnson for AG has a better chance. If these guys can get some decent press I think they can close the deal. And Colin Allred should have stayed put when he was a US rep. -
"side of fried chicken" is a beautiful turn of phrase.

Hang on, I'm not paying attention - who is being runoft? I really am a big tent guy and I'll take anyone who will vote against GOP. I personally think the progressives are the folks who are fucking things up, but I think part of it is a definitional problem. I think "progressive" is a bit of a broken definition. If I am in an anti-progressive mood, the definition has too much identity politics and defund the police woven in. If I am in a pro-progressive mood, it's about a color blind radically progressive tax system and universal health care. -
Game Week Thread 2025 Game Week 5: Texas at Florida
Mitch Cumsteen replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
This is pretty much where I am. I would imagine Texas is going to play super conservatively on offense with Florida's relative defensive strength, offensive woes, turnover proclivity, a tough road environment, Arch's inconsistency/yips, and Texas having a strong punting and special teams game. This is your win by playing, "complementary football" game plan if there ever was one. I'm predicting lots of brakes and not a ton of gas. It's probably going to be ugly but winning ugly is a good thing. Just get the W however we can. And god forbid we kick a fucking field goal on fourth down. -

I have outlined my position on what the Democrats should be doing numerous times in other threads. I don't have the energy to repeat myself for the 1000th time, sorry. -
Trump announces that the US is guaranteeing Qatar security: I'm sure this has nothing to do with the 747 that Qatar donated to Trump. Even if an foreign relation exec order is fully legitimate and in the best interest of the US, this is why we have those pesky rules of not allowing President to personally accept material gifts, like an expensive watch or a $400m plane. You can decouple the legitimacy from the illegitimacy.

True, Zeihan was beating the drum about pressure literally building up in the pipelines when things are going offline and there’s no extra storage, but I would think they would have safeguards, but it is Russia so….

Government Shutdown 2025: This Time It’s Personal

And the really fun part is that it all needs to happen fast enough that it meaningfully alters the landscape before next year's midterms...which also presumes that they're held, and held fairly - neither one a guarantee these days. I feel like if shit doesn't get dramatically worse for everyone by next summer, then too many swingable voters will still be content enough with the status quo, and the people with status and opportunity to affect real change will still have too much to personally lose by sticking their necks out. -
so far, this season has played out the way Mary Cabot predicted. Flacco to start then get benched with Gabriel starting then at some point Sheduer (regardless of how Gabriel plays). They need to see what they have heading into next year's draft. The thing is the Browns have a really good defense - the blowouts are due to Flacco's turnovers and special teams gaffes. Having any competence at QB gives them a chance to win games.

Thankfully for Oklahoma, there's absolutely no precedent for an injured Heisman contending QB to rush a return from injury to play vs. Texas and then get re-injured early in the game. Nope, nothing at all to worry about here! -

Government Shutdown 2025: This Time It’s Personal
Tuco replied to Bozo_Casanova's topic in Cloak Room
The biggest thing that would put the 2026 midterms at risk is a robust stock market and economy. That's not why the Dems should hold their ground here, but Trump and the GOP has way more to lose on a recession, and they know it. -
