  1. Your posts are a beating. Please take your sob stories and pessimistic attitude toward humanity as a whole somewhere else (preferably CR). Posts like this serve no purpose and sure as hell won’t fix any of the many grievances you find.

  2. Some of y'all need to take a break from this thread. Go for a run, grab a beer, it's nice outside so go out until the front comes through. Yes, this all sucks but there's a great chance you're not dying, there's a great chance if your ill relatives stay the course for a while they won't die either. There's a great chance, albeit painful, the economy makes it out of this. We've always had stupid people occupying this country and running it but y'all myopic view of Covid, our government and humanity is going to break you down mentally. I ain't Charlie Strong is going to pull us through sunshine pumping but y'all's generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks are infecting this thread.

  3. Some of you people are sucking at Easter. There’s a lot to be depressed about, worried about, and scared of right now. But as of today most of us posting here are healthy and have full bellies, families intact, and as of today a lot to be thankful for, if were being honest. Maybe this is a horrible event that fundamentally brings positive change to US. Maybe the world. We don’t know, other than there’s going to be some hard times ahead. happy easter you cunts.

  5. Does this trope have to be trotted out at least every 2 pages? Maybe we can pin something at the top of the thread that lays out the givens: 1) The tests! The tests! We have got to test more! 2) Not to go cloak room but now I’m going cloak room. 3) America is the dumbest collection of pieces of shit in the history of this planet and I fucking hate so many of us! 4) Anecdotes about overcrowding and something someone saw at the grocery store. A relevant discussion about how things open back up and the trade-offs being involved can then happen without needing “fuck ‘Murica” being peppered in every 8th post. Thanks.

  6. Sure, in a perfect theoretical world where libertarianism is about protecting individual rights while also respecting the individual rights of others. Instead, real world libertarianism is about maximizing selfishness, others be damned. We have a full blown tragedy of the commons in almost every aspect of American life because of supposed libertarian principles. Covid spread is only the latest example of it. Once you guys decided the individual right to discriminate was more important than the individual right to be free from discrimination, libertarians have been in a steady decline. What used to be "my right to punch ends where your face begins," is now "I have a right to punch, fuck your face or anything else that gets in the way." Hell, you guys don't even give a fuck about clean drinking water anymore.

  7. Good luck getting Republicans to turn on the Bushes! Good luck getting Republicans to turn on John McCain! Good luck getting Republicans to turn on gold star families! It’s a cult, man. They’ll believe whatever Trump tells them.

  8. What we need is the basics of public health: testing, tracing, and effective quarantines. oh, and we need it 75 days ago. We knew, for sure, that this was going to happen, and we didn’t prepare. The emergence of the disease was probably not preventable, but the epidemic in the US and the consequent economic shutdown is a man-made disaster.

  9. Just so you are aware, the Libertarian repose to a virus like this would be even worse than Trump’s. They would’ve absolutely left it 100% up to the states. No guidance, no help, and they likely would’ve vetoed any stimulus. I used to be a libertarian too. But libertarians are only good when there is never a crisis. Sometimes you need to get everyone on the same page and lead. That is not the mission of a libertarian federal government. It would be a disaster.

  12. For a guy that confirmed on April 1 that he still expected the US to have 10,000 people dying a day by April 10, you calling anyone an asshat is pretty fucking hilarious. But yes, carry on with your daily moving of goalposts and pedantry.

  13. Truman: "America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand." JFK: "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty. Super smart people in 2020: "Building infrastructure for mass testing seems kinda hard, let's just not do it."

  14. I admit it. In 2016 I thought there was a solid chance that Trump would at least turn the corrupt political establishment on it's ear in a positive way for the country. Instead he has come in and led the most corrupt and incompetent administration the country has ever seen. He makes Nero look like Abraham Lincoln. To not see that by now takes real derangement.

  16. What the fuck is this? Positivity while discussing a pleasant holiday afternoon dinner? I thought it was well established that we are here to discuss the end of the world, the inanity of man, and to tell each other what fucking idiots we think each other are. Anything else is complete and utter sunshine-pumping bullshit, sir. But, fuck it, I can get behind some Easter dinner talk. Roasting a leg of lamb right now. Serving with roasted carrots, scalloped potatoes, leeks in cheese sauce, yorkshire pudding and a cabernet sauce. Then finishing with an apple custard tart straight out of Julia’s Volume 1. About to make a rye manhattan, then drink vino, and get schmittied while watching one of the last episodes of Homeland. Will probably observe this thread and notice pacman or some other dildo sprinting around to neg all of my posts at various points as well. Cheers!

  18. Many business owners and employees would rather go back to work and risk their lives and the lives of others rather than lose everything they have ever worked for and be forced onto the streets. There has to be a balance or there will be rioting and social unrest.

  19. I went for a drive earlier and I think people are startingto go feral. I was driving down a neighborhood road and pulled up to a stop sign. This attractive woman in her early thirties walks out to her Jeep parked on the road wearing nothing but a blouse. The blouse was long enough to kinda cover the bottom area but as soon as the wind blew it was very revealing and the top didn't really contain the top. Every move she made resulted in one of her boobs popping out of her shirt and the wind kept lifting the bottom portion too. Within a few seconds I saw boobs, butt and the golden triangle. She never attempted to cover up and you could tell she just didn't give a shit. I was 10 ft away and trying to mentally process what I was witnessing and she just nods at me with no fucks given and walks back inside. Fucking Brave New World.

  22. You know how I know you don’t go to church? Yeah, that’s absurd. Every week I go and the collection plate is passed and nobody puts anything in it (not hardly anyway) and at the end of the week they’ve brought in $1,000,000 plus or minus 10% like clockwork. It ain’t coming from people throwing 20’s and Hundo’s in the plate so the guy sitting next to you knows how much, or even if you put anything in. The vast vast vast majority comes from people setting up online recurring giving, or paying on the internet. Nobody to speak of carries cash, few have checkbooks (and if you do it goes in your envelope and it’s between you and god) But just like people don’t pay their mortgage payments anymore by writing a check and mailing it in they don’t make their church contributions like that. Less than 20% comes from physically passing the plate. To make it seem like money comes in from some manner of social peer pressure or showing off is completely and totally divorced from reality. It’s just not true- at all- in almost all any context in the modern American church. The only time I see people putting cash in at church is the benevolence offerings for the poor amongst our congregation that they take up when we do lords supper- somewhere around a half dozen times a year. That’s people tossing 10’s and 20’s or whatever spare change they have in their wallets leaving service, and the take on that is typically less than 5 figure because people don’t do cash. We are told when we give to not let the right hand know what the left is doing, and in my 41 years of attending church I’ve never once heard someone say how much they give, or even that they give, nor seen anyone do it in a way to bring attention to themselves.

  24. Carter would most likely meet the standard criteria of the Bebbington Quadrilateral Some have argued that Evangelicalism is an extension of Fundamentalism, those spreading the good news of God's fundamental truths. And there are many Evangelicals who don't identify as conservative or Republican (many Christians of color, for example). But, it's certainly become shorthand for a specific subset of white Christians in America with particular political leanings (similar to the designations "Catholic" and "Protestant" within the 'Troubles' in Ireland- political first, theological afterwards). And those particular sisters and brothers in Christ suck. Happy Easter.

  26. FN works in a highly-specialized but well-compensated industry one of whose main drawbacks -- to those working in that industry, at least -- is that due to the whims of the market and technical innovations, it periodically sheds itself of roughly half its workforce. This renders years of technical education and arduous decades of experience useless, and so FN fears that he too will soon be out of work and will this be unable to make as much money as he once did. And so he hopes that he -- who chose to work in this industry knowing full well that downturns mean waves of job losses -- can continue raking in fat cash by condescending to simpletons like us about how should have nothing to fear from mud and teeny-tiny quantities of class A carcinogens into hitherto-pristine drinking water. After all, even if we are a history teacher, a banker, a dentist, a bartender, a truck driver, a cop, a lawyer, or a ditch-digger, we should all be fully up to speed on all mechanical and technical process in the oil patch, from exploration to drilling to well operations to pipelines and shipping are just stupid members of the general public if we don't. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

  27. and when Trump is gone, whether that is next year (unlikely), or 5 years from now, or whenever, these folks will still be here - tens of millions of completely worthless, total hacks who offer little to nothing of value to society (all current Republicans). its not like they are all of a sudden going turn into reasonable people who decide that democracy and the interests of the country are more important than their own personal and party interests, and owning the libs. It has been said many times - Trump is just a symptom of a much larger problem. that problem is Republicans. they elected him, they cheer on his racism, his fraud and corruption, his complete ineptitude, his repeated humiliation of the country on the international stage, his treason, and now his negligence that has led and will continue to lead to thousands of deaths. they have had opportunity after opportunity to stand up and say, you know, we made a mistake with this guy, we can do better - and have failed to do so - ever. and they all continue to support him. Republicans are a cancer. Trump is simply the public display of that cancer. they are who (many of us) thought they were.

  30. For the life of me, I honestly don't see how anyone could have thought that. Not trying to insult you, but what exactly did you think he was going to do, besides wave a magic want? How could a guy with a history of business failures, civil rights violations and litigation against him for fraud get the deep state to stop being all corrupt? Did he give any indication that he was going to go after big business or lobbyists? Had he ever displayed any empathy or interest in helping the poor? Not being snarky. I just admit to not seeing how anyone could have ever voted for him in 2016. I assume that you hated Clinton?

  37. Anyone who wants Trump out of office and believes in progressive policies needs to do two things - Until Election Day - support Joe Biden. That means everything from being full blown Biden Stan to just shutting the fuck up until the first Tuesday in November and casting your vote. After Election Day - become a huge pain in the ass for the Biden Administration and use your voice to keep pushing him left. That’s it.

I regret not bouncing a jig on the bottom and seeing if there was a founder around. They blackened up nicely in the skillet. More thank likely will head down again this week if the weather permits.
