SHUT THE FUCK UP Your stupid schtick is ruining this thread.21 points

Yeah, we really think there was a lot of COVID testing that wasn't that accurate in certain overseas locations. But this is all conjecture. I don't think there's much proof that those that have actual antibodies are getting it again. Now if you have a weakened immune system, you may not form antibodies even after actually having COVID, so then you would still be susceptible. But for 99% of us, we should be fine if we get antibodies. And remember if you are not that symptomatic much of the science seems to point to you shedding less virus. Which explains how I had it and none of my facilities ended up with it in the time period I seem to have been infected. So that gives some peace of mind. This virus, like any, can mutate but we are fairly certain it has not mutated all that much although there seem to be a few distinct strains out there (8 from what I heard a few days ago). With those type of things I'm counting on what I hear from real experts, I'm far from a virologist. But I do have access to some people really in the know and I do half my days via telehealth now so I'm watching more TV then ever - it's usually on in the background but I'll rewind if something interesting pops up. The last couple of days much of the rage was on how long these viruses can stay on surfaces...it just didn't make much sense to me that we wouldn't see a LOT more spread if that was the case. Well here's where I was referred by someone more knowledgeable than myself: https://www.forbes.com/sites/coronavirusfrontlines/2020/04/07/a-virologist-explains-why-hyped-studies-tell-us-very-little-about-the-likelihood-of-covid-19-coronavirus-transmission/#30e170bc1abe Funny that I'm more of the business doc and this article was in Forbes of all places. Anyways, it's hard to wade through all the bullshit but we try. Stay safe out there my Surly brethren...19 points

Actually POTUS makes it much more difficult on the docs. And he absolutely caused a shortage for people that need it indicated usage. I work with 3 top 25 healthcare systems and they have not used much. Sadly a metric shitload of community docs working independently just started doling it out bc it’s easier than getting sued or having a 30 min convo with a Trumptard who isn’t going to listen. It was like opioid convos. Once a nutter has their mind made up good luck. The president spouting off definitely makes it worse. Zero question.19 points

My daughter was talking about dying her hair black during the quarantine, just to see what she'd look like. Wife: With your light skin, you'll wind up looking nemo. Daughter: NEMO?! Are you serious?!! (we're both laughing loudly) Wife: Yes. You're too fair skinned. Daughter: I'm going to look like a little orange fish?? Wife: Why would you say that?17 points

Been a few days since an update but still confidence Chicago is in good shape and has flattened the curve. What's that mean around these parts? Looks like we expect the hospitals to be stress tested quite a bit from April 10 to the first week of May. But right now it looks like we have enough vents etc. I'll try to get more details later including posting what's up with COVID palliative units we are planning. Bit scary if you or a family member has to end up in one of those.16 points

I’ll go ahead and sub this for the the bat signal, but Junior Miller is on the confirmed cases thread blaming his wife for infecting him and opining about a murder suicide for her not practicing social distance. Everyone should go take a peek.11 points

Hey buddy. I don’t know how to tell you this...and I know you’re frequently confused by this very simple thing, but...this isn’t the cloak room. While it’s normal there to threaten to murder public figures and other posters regularly there for not agreeing with your tunnel’d up worldview, but shit like threatening to kill your wife is frowned up on the rest of shaggy. Publicly at least. Maybe you should head back over there where you can bask in the arms of sympathetic well wishers and a few of those like minded psychopaths. also, you’re a huge pussy for talking about offing yourself before even trying to go to a hospital to seek treatment. But that’s like, just my opinion man. Why don’t you ask real nice to bum some of the hydrochloronique or whatever it is triplehorn scammed off a pharmacist first?10 points
-
Maybe YOU will. As for me, I've got an order of some jars of powdered tiger penis and an awesome lotion made out of bat blood plasma en route from China as we speak. That is one stupid-ass straw man logical fallacy. Because the concern is what's stated below: Every human on earth wants SOMETHING to work. If it's chloroquine, great. If it's goddamned peanut M&M's, great. If it's a teaspoon of diesel fuel, great. The only problem we have is watching a complete fucking moron, with zero expertise in the field, with zero valid data to back him up, pimping out chloroquine/M&M's/diesel fuel and actively INSTRUCTING people to take it. That's the fucking problem. "What do you have to lose?" Would you be so cavalier if he was saying this about taking a shot of diesel fuel, which might kill you? Guess what -- the same is true of chloroquine. Even though it's been around a long time and its performance in certain types of cases is well-understood, it's still a powerful fucking chemical that he's telling people to ingest without 1) knowing if it will help or 2) knowing if it will hurt. Jesus shitdicks you apologists are some disingenuous dumb motherfuckers.10 points

Boy, I haven't been on this thread in over 3 weeks. I come back to the first post I hadn't viewed and it's moved like 8 pages. Really grim time to be a sportsfan. I spoke to a buddy and basically, the new guys have been doing the stupid shit where they ignore facts and go offer guys in SEC footprint/east coast and convince themselves they have a shot, while not focusing on Texas recruits the way they should. This cycle is obviously weird, but it flexes strengths for guys like Mack Brown, who Facetime and convince momma that her boy needs to stay close to him during this difficult and uncertain time. It doesn't flex very well for the Texas or ATM staffs, conversely. The only thing worse than enduring an 8 hour in-home visit listening to Tom Herman talk is spending an hour with him awkwardly Facetiming. Texas woke up regarding Milroe once he was planning a trip to Auburn. Let's see if they can manage to stay the course there. It is almost a certainty that Q Davis and Campbell will not stick at whatever school they sign with, and probably make zero impact wherever they go, if they get in. There's a mountain of data to support shying away from guys that decommitment more than once, and it gets worse with every additional decommitment. Guys that can't stay at the same school for an entire academic year are even longer shots. Texas liked Campbell early, then realized what kind of bullshit he brings with his signature and they haven't paid attention since. Somewhere along the way, the same thing has more or less happened with Davis.9 points

Imagine the multiplier of lives ruined by the shut down versus lives lost by the virus. Caring about people’s wallets is still caring about their lives. Most people don’t realize they have a life, even without the wallet.9 points

Perhaps, but the rest of the world has been figuring out how to work around or bypass us pretty quickly. Nobody is looking to us for covid leadership. Nobody. That would have been unheard of only a few years ago. The EU is doing this without us. So are Japan and Korea. We can barely help ourselves. Our single "greatest" global influence is that we buy more shit and value materialism more than other cultures. Covid may kill that too. Our military, like most, is built to wreck middling countries, but MAD prevents anything from happening between real powers. You are living in the past.9 points

Donald Trump once embezzled seven dollars from his charity to pay Jr’s Boy Scout registration fee. I’d wager any amount of money he’s spent more time thinking of a way to make money off of coronavirus than he has spent thinking about how to actually eliminate it. That’s not to say he’s not also a dumb piece of shit who not only sells snake oil but falls for it too.8 points

I’m a specialist. Even then I had at least 50 texts. 50. And they know I’m not a primary. I’m not trying to bash you. The problem is there’s too many doctors who are under pressure as it stands. The president should at least wait until Fauci says it - and it was pretty clear Fauci did not want to mention that recommendation, and did not.8 points

i do agree with your stance somewhat. but the who declared covid-19 a pandemic on march 11, which is late, but the definition is what it is. trump spent the weeks before, despite being warned by his own administration and intelligence community, that this thing is fucking real and we need to get our shit together. trump knew about this in december, and wanted to wish it away, like a miracle, and soon the cases will be 0. trump doesn't want to rely on the international community for advice, then he cannot blame them for their response. he wants to go it alone, then he faces the music alone. fuck this hand waving at the who.8 points

Today's Wisconsin vote will go down as one of the most shameful episodes in the post-civil rights era. And it is 100% on the GOP. This is their baby -- they INSIST on in-person voting in the middle of a pandemic instead of delaying elections like every other jurisdiction has. They are an evil, anti-American conspiracy, and they deserve to be swept from every office for eternity. There is nothing redeemable about the GOP any longer. Nothing.8 points

And that’s what a lot of the rubes will fail to ever comprehend. That we nearly completely shut down almost the entire country for a month and a half, to keep this in the neighborhood of the worst flu. If we would have just let it run it’s course, no doubt we’d have ended up with a million dead.8 points
