Sandy Hook was the test and we failed miserably. We’re fine with slaughtered children in classrooms.17 points

The whole Frisco/Plano/Allen area is the epicenter of nouveau-middle-class white trash and their Karen wives who drive $150k worth of SUV and Truck that they'll never take offroad or put anything heavier than a few Cabela's bags into. Wearing shirts that tell everyone how country they are as they sit in the Starbucks drive-through with their little Brayden, Kayleigh, Tucker, and Ashlynn's. It is one of the worst places in the world. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being "not surprised at all that it was a sedition hotspot" and 10 being total surprise, this is about a negative thirty seven. I'd be more surprised by a Shaka Smart team underperforming its talent level.17 points

It just occurred to me that UCLA's path so far has been Michigan State>BYU>Abilene Christian. If this trend in the history and tradition of their opponents continues, they'll be playing a 7th grade girls B team for the national championship.8 points

The Rio Grande River and its drainage is in no way related to the Colorado River. Its headwaters start in the mountains above the San Luis Valley in Colorado and flow south/southeast through New Mexico before forming the Texas/Mexico border. The Colorado River drainage is on the other side of the Continental Divide and flows south/southwest. Even if you are talking about the Texas' Colorado River drainage, it also has nothing to do with the Rio Grande River drainage.8 points

I’m not a big photo enthusiast, but I just came across this pic of a picnic spot we had in Olympic N.P. in May 2019 We lingered for a while.8 points

I don’t understand why we reflexively work around the gun when assessing gun violence. We don’t do that with drugs. Acknowledging that drugs don’t take themselves has never stopped us from seeing them as a big part of the problem.7 points

I disagree. My post specifically asked the question of when has such an awful performance resulted in such a huge upset by the underdog team. The dfference between Saturday's game and UMBC's win over Virginia is UMBC unequivocally played a great game. They shot lights the fuck out. I think they even shot 50% from the the 3pt line. Unlike football, overmatched basketball teams upset more talented teams all the time, provided they play a great game that day. What makes Shaka's atrocious showing Saturday unique is not only did Abilene Christian not have to play a great game to net a win they probably played their worst offensive game of the year and still got the fucking win over a team seeded 11 spots higher than them. That's an unmatched level of ineptitude by a higher seed in my tournament watching eyes.7 points

I would personally be fine with hiring Ivey. There's no Urban Meyer out there (Beilein comes closest but is old and has a negative reputation among NBA players), and I'm skeptical we could pry any of the other names (Musselman, Wright) loose. That means gambling on a hot midmajor coach and we just tried that. So if we're going to roll the dice anyway, let's see what an alumnus of the program can do.7 points

So the problems Little Bitty was experiencing that I posted about earlier when we saw the vet this past March 5th have unfortunately returned. She rebounded from her vet visit for a bit and then began vomiting again. She in now in the hospital overnight until an ultrasound can be done to determine next steps or what is causing her issues. She’s 16 and a fighter and such a sweetheart. I cannot express what an important part of my life she truly is. If you pray she could use one. Or good thoughts or whatever you are comfortable with. Just talked to the vet again for the third time today. She called me tonite before her shift ended and sent me this picture.7 points

Osprey day. Just could not get close enough to it to get a good shot of it diving into the water.6 points

i cannot stop noticing how seemingly every other team in the tourney moves the ball around, trying to set up a good shot- an open slasher to the basket, a mismatch in the post, a wide open catch-and-shoot three. such a stark contrast to these unbelievably low IQ possessions which are a staple of every Shaka Smart offense we've ever had.6 points

Beard's buyout is $5M, and goes down to $4M if we wait until April 1. https://media.everythinglubbock.com/nxsglobal/everythinglubbock/document_dev/2019/04/29/Chris Beard - 2019_1556568389982_85046221_ver1.0.pdf6 points

Why does UCLA keep going into the paint and exploiting ACU’s size advantage? Have they tried dribbling around and throwing it away more.5 points

Just like football (and seemingly every other sport), the game has evolved in favor of offense. Coaches like Bennett (I know we aren't getting him) and Beard field efficient offenses, but my preference is for a coach who's elite in offense and developing guards with competent defense over the reverse. Those teams are also more exciting to watch, even when they're not winning big.5 points

Yeah, I feel much better about the Huskies' 5-21 season now. We were probably the best 20-loss team in the country.5 points

It's not. It's way too early to tell what really caused the attacks. We might never actually know. If you are trying to ascribe certainty to one side or the other of an "is he racist" debate this early in the game with very limited facts, you have an agenda. I don't recall anyone on this thread saying it was definitely race-based, but I see a bunch of people who are very very sensitive about people being called racists who are foolishly assuming it wasn't race-driven and saying it definitely had nothing to do with it. It's not hard to figure out why there's a certain group of posters who are really sensitive about people being called racist and run to defend their honor at every opportunity, even if it means defending a person who just murdered a ton of people.5 points

The bolded is important. I made a detailed post recently about how the US -- and for that matter, the rest of the world -- has done a piss-poor job of deciding on what the "goal" is. It SEEMS like our goal is utter eradication of the virus....which is fucking impossible, at least anytime soon (e.g., within the next decade). It's widespread, it can transmit asymptomatically, etc. It's endemic, and it's going to stay that way for a while. Our goal SHOULD be to turn COVID the killer (a virus that kills too many, and hospitalizes WAY too many) into "COVID the head cold." Imagine if COVID had burst on the scene....and it was just another virus that caused a head cold? None of us would even know about it. A few scientists would note some interesting genetic markers in the virus, might even track it to its general origin, but otherwise, we'd be prescribing sudafed and chicken soup, and life wouldn't have changed. If we can use vaccines to turn it back INTO that....then that's how we should operate as a global society. Widespread shots in arms can turn this from a deadly disease spreading worldwide to a relatively mild illness with a much slower spread. You know...like a cold or a mild flu. Which we long-ago decided we can all live with. It's kind of maddening.5 points

First thing we did after checking in was go to Erin Rose. GW Fins Tempura wings, my favorite app at fins Halibut cheeks, hadn’t had this app before. Liked it a lot. The sauce was corn purée, okra and field peas. Scalibut, excellent like always. Atchafalaya Duck hash, it was good but was under seasoned Crab cakes eggs Benedict Doris Metropolitan Gratuitous meat shot Bone in rib-eye, it melted like butter. I ate the whole thing. No ragrets. Le Petite Grocery Crab beignets, these were the best version I’ve had. They were perfect. Fried Brussels sprouts with pimento cheese. The secret ingredient was crack. Words don’t do them justice. Turtle bolognese, it always amazes me how similar in taste turtle is to beef. LPG burger. Lives up to the hype. The fries are also great. We shared chocolate cake with pomegranate and washed it down with an excellent port. Simple and excellent dessert. This was one of the best meals of my life. Every course was fantastic. Not pictured are brunch at Stanley and a Parkway shrimp poboy. Both were delicious. Great trip overall and it was so nice to travel again.5 points

Funny? It might be the biggest scandal of the past 50 years. Who do I contact to change my vote? If I knew Joe Biden was 78 years old and a little clumsy and misspeaks and might forget a name, I def would have voted for Trump instead.5 points
