I know we've been discussing WR recruiting and transferring, when not being interrupted by Mongo, who somehow got loose from his cage. But the principles around recruiting and the portal will hold true across all positions save QB in this cycle for Texas. a) They'll stack as strong of a recruiting class as they can at each position group. They'll add as many guys at each spot as they think they can irrespective of the portal and current depth chart. b) They'll work their asses off to retain not just standout personnel, but also those developing across the board. We're doing work to ensure a specific amount at a minimum across the roster, so developing back up guards and ILBs and TEs will have plenty of reasons to stay. Then major NIL work for impact players has been done and will continue to be put together to ensure Texas keeps the stars it's developing. At non-super star positions where Texas has major talent, like Dicker at Kicker last year, Texas will have NIL help to push forward in a significant way to keep those guys from leaving to the NFL hoping to get drafted late or signed as an UDFA. The 3rd guard with a year left, the 6th WR who does well on special teams, the starting LB thinking about leaving early because he already has 3 kids. Shit like that. I don't know if that will matter in this particular cycle, but players are now learning that they can earn a good living by sticking it out. What Dicker did was idiocy. He left 6 figures on the table. c) Then, they'll carve off the roster and ensure that players who aren't fits going forward will have enough time to enter the portal for greener pastures. There will, again, be some significant desired churn after this season. Not like last year, but certainly around double digits. d) Finally, they'll be all over the portal if they can find one of two types of players: 1) players that are simply better than anything on the roster who can push the talent level up again, even if just a one year rental. Again, outside of QB, this is likely to be every position, including WR. They're not going to worry about depth behind Worthy if they can pick up a difference maker, All Conference type guy that is looking to join a program with more visibility. 2) players that have 2+ years of eligibility left who fit the culture profile, have shown they have the talent to start, and will come here to earn a starting position or first off the bench. They have guys scouting the non-blue blood programs on staff right now. People are watching footage of every game from this weekend and they're adding guys to list review in the event they opt-in to the portal. Pre-portal scouting at the G5 and FCS levels is an area where the "haves" can have a giant competitive advantage to the "have nots" as things continue to evolve in this landscape. I expect Texas to keep adding help on this front. I expect Clemson to continue falling behind on this front, gloriously. Regardless of where a player fits into these categories, the overall outlook is trending towards a very healthy "Up or Out" approach. Get enough "up" on the roster and no single player can ever hold you hostage outside of QB.26 points

You look at Texas Tech over there and it's just all about the tradition of there being no way Texas is playing you every year after we leave for the SEC. Would you want to go to Lubbock every other year if you didn't have to?24 points

Two Texas picks for Hale today. One from an aggy mod on On3. Other from a national recruiting analyst on Rivals.23 points

So if 5 major plays went differently the game would have been different. Interesting. I could pick 5 plays to go the other way and suddenly instead of 41-20 it's a 59-10 Texas win.21 points

No it's not. That's from the rulebook. That didn't happen. None of that happened. Of course it does say there are other indicators but there is nothing in the play that indicates Overshown targeted Harris to attack him in the head or neck area for a purpose beyond making the tackle. The rule states that the foul requires there be an indicator of targeting. No indicator exists on that play. Harris changed out of the passing posture to try to avoid Overshown. In fact, if Harris had remained in the passing posture then Overshown's first contact would have been with his right shoulder. The only reason Overshown's first contact was facemask-to-facemask is because Harris turned to face Overshown to attempt an escape. DMO kept his eyes up, saw what he hit, made the tackle. He did not lower his head, he did not crouch to strike upward at Harris's head, he did not target Harris.17 points

Regarding Hale’s decision this week - he wants to go to Texas. If Sarkisian wants to make sure the NIL is there for a guy like that once on campus, he commits to Texas. Word is that is where it is headed.14 points

I can’t believe some of the whining on here about the UTSA game. I figured there’d be handwringing about Tech, sure, but people are down on the UTSA win? Some of you guys are for real stupid. Tech’s QB sucks. We get a reprieve after facing two witches over the last two games, Texas gets to play a human. He’s also a turnover machine. Yes, please! Tech doesn’t have playmakers on offense. The TBs aren’t dynamic. They don’t have a deep threat. The OL isn’t great. Defensively, Tech’s defense is fine, but they’re not forcing turnovers. Fend off Tyree Wilson and isolate him and you can do what you want against them with UT’s size and speed. It’s Lubbock, Texas has to go in ready. That said, Ewers will be starting and Texas will have some energy with that. If this Texas team is legitimately good, they’ll win and cover and get fired up to beat the shit out of West Virginia the following week. These are games you have to win, and relatively stress free.13 points

Blaming the loss to Bama on Worthy is the hawtest take I have seen in weeks, so thank you for that. Wow. Regarding NIL, what I am saying is that you are definitively ignorant of the facts and circumstances about which you're attempting to opine. I know this because I am absolutely not. There is nothing to "discuss". This isn't a "disagree to disagree" set of opinions, dufus. One of us is involved, and one of us has shown up to a thread in order to offer to the rest of us "rationale" for their fan fiction. What I typed had precisely nothing to do with "riding Riley's jock" irrespective of my fandom. It is pure numbnuttery to ignore objective values because you have selective biases. That shit is on you and isn't a factor for anyone else attempting to discuss the topic. You are threadshitting with that kind of aggie logic and it is annoying. Riley is using Addison in a highly productive manner at USC. Riley has backing for tampering from his booster base when it comes to $$. He attempted to recruit Worthy into the portal this past motherfucking May, moron. We had to scramble to fucking keep him with actual money and NIL programming the day of the portal closing. You don't know what in the ever living fuck you are talking about here. And yeah, this cycle doesn't compare to last cycle because now a whole bunch of other groups besides Texas, Oregon and Miami are stockpiling assets and keeping their powder dry for the portal. This cycle will be worse, dipshit. You can "think" I am wrong all you like. I do not give one fuck. Your "thinking" is clearly just sunshine-pumping wishcasting with no actual background or understanding of the current state of affairs. I am closetojumping. I do not need other handles to reinforce anything I say or do here. You're projecting that because it's probably a tactic you've tried to deploy somewhere in a feeble attempt to make a point or save face. I do not need to do that. closetojumping is all that is needed. Now take your toys that say "replica" on the side of them and fuck off.12 points

Again, the insecurities are seen in full display by their desperation here in this bizarre dick measuring contest about the environment during big games. The guy writing that "multiple people" he knows in different sections were "meh" about the bama atmosphere manufactured that post out of thin air. There isn't a person on this planet that attended that game who would honestly have that take. It also fits directly into what they want to believe - "oh, the dern fancy t-sippers were just complaining about the weather and start time". Right. Then you get all of the laudatory self-proclamations about sound systems and what not where Kyle Field is hands down the best, because, because? I went to plenty of ATM games when Texas came to town, all as an adult. I'd heard the propaganda from aggies I knew about how amazing Kyle Field was and how loud it was. I was excited to witness it. Nope. Just another game at another stadium. And the stadium itself was a shithole.12 points

It'll be signed by him. I think this is actually more likely than not. And then all the lawyers will be like, "well, we don't really know if a president can pardon himself, even after the fact, because it's never been done!" And then we'll all kill ourselves.11 points
