  1. There’s plenty I can see. Which makes me paranoid about what I can’t see. I have a feeling we’ll be going down to studs but holding out hope otherwise. Yeah right now trying to find a 6 month rental that feed to Laurel Mountain Elementary. We have 2 we’re going to look at later today but both want 12 months and insurance won’t cover that…yet (until they know how extensive the damage is). We’re doing as well as can be expected. Wife is handling the kids, they went to school on Monday. We are doing stupid shit like sorting through piles of glass trying to find Legos pieces in my son’s room and trying to repair a broken light saber he just got at Disneyland last month because that what he was most upset about in his 8yo brain. I know it’s dumb but it gave us something to do until insurance finally showed up.

  2. It appears as though the money earmarked at WR got moved to Mosley. They really like the freshmen WRs early. Jackson appears to have been correct in his evaluation of McCutcheon, who he fought for as a target. At some point, you can't keep bringing guys in over the top of other promising guys who want to see the field and who also happen to be expensive NIL agreements. At RB, Texas stands to have at least 6 guys at the ready. Go get another guy when those guys think they're healthy and good enough and things start to unravel. I'm not sure why you think Texas is going to be restrained. They're going to go after fewer positions, sure. They're loaded. Where they see a real need, what Burton is saying is that they're going go heavy on the offers for the right guys, lock them up quickly, and be done with the process.

  4. Huh, now threatening citizens. Didn't see that one coming. Watching Jon Stewart make the funny. Catharsis is nice, but worthless. I honestly wonder if most Americans can find a soul and care about other people? thats really what this is about. Just an shithole country that can't slow down long enough to care about teh plight of the innocent and marginalized. Just abhorrent. Nowhere to go but down. fucking infuriating.

  5. I have a friend who has been in the US for 30 years, never committed a crime, married to a US citizen with 2 US citizen children. She met all of my children within a week of them being born. She applied for citizenship in the past and during the period of application her mom got cancer. She was absent from the US for more than 6 months because her mom was in chemo, negating her citizenship petition. She just talked to an immigration lawyer and his advice was leave the US as soon as possible because they know she is undocumented and they will eventually hunt her down and send her to a detention facility. People that cheer this shit are fucking ghouls.

  6. Called my congressman’s office around 4:15 and kept that poor staffer on the line until office closing time, pretty much asking why my Rep wasn’t protecting his constituents. Even with the length of the call, I kept the conversation constrained to the following three topics The local VA hospital is losing 20% of its staff (100 jobs), and the USDA research office has been shut down. What is the congressman doing to fight for those jobs? Oil and cotton (2 biggest exports) are subject to China’s retaliatory tariffs. Oil prices have plummeted, and the rig count has gone down. What is he doing to fight for those vitally important West Texas export industries? Trump said he wants to send US citizens to foreign prisons. What is he doing to protect American citizens? Asking those three questions in such a way seemed to put the staffer on the back foot because the underlying assumption is that all of them are worth fighting for, which the staffer ultimately agreed with and stated that the Congressman supported vets, jobs, and citizens. I asked why the Congressman was silent on those three important items of local interest and got a response that β€œhe’s been traveling a lot and has been busy,” which was obviously an attempt at a nonresponse. However, I continued to push and finally got the staffer to say that the Congressman would 100% draw a red line at the deportation of Americans and told him, β€œThen, the Congressman needs to make a statement to that effect, because people are scared.” I don’t know if any of this will make a difference, but I felt somewhat better afterward. And, to be honest, the staffer did genuinely seem to agree with all of the above, promising to send word to the office in DC that my Rep should make a clear statement that he is opposed to the deportation of American citizens. The local staffer also admitted he had already personally fielded several calls today from US citizens in this very conservative district who are concerned about Trump’s deportation threats that were issued yesterday. I told the staffer this goes way beyond any traditional understanding of Conservative vs. Liberal β€œpolitics” and is a fundamental threat to the kind of American democracy that we’ve always known. It took some back-and-forth and some hemming and hawing, but the staffer eventually agreed that the Congressman should make a statement to that effect and would send a note to DC that he should do so. Obviously, I’m not holding my breath that my Congressman will actually issue that statement, but it was at least a start to get a true-believer staffer for a very conservative congressman to admit these things are actual threats to the fundamental concept of liberty. Maybe the staffer is a good actor/liar, but I feel like a seed of doubt was planted. I’m going to keep at this shit, get to the point where I know these staffers’ names and voices for when I call, and make some fucking noise. You guys are all really smart and make good arguments. Light up the phone lines, use your degrees, and speak about shit in concrete ways that directly tie the insanity to your local community. Stay focused and on point. In this small town that voted 80% for Trump, there’s word circulating that a small cadre of brave locals, who are willing to put their social standing at risk, is planning a protest in front of the VA hospital in rural fucking West Texas. Small progress.

  8. This has all been hashed and rehashed on the NIL thread in the recruiting forum on many other threads in the recruiting forum. Offline, it’s also been discussed ad nauseum. Here are the high points: 1) Collectives are going nowhere. It’s something of a MAD role for the bigger programs and something of a means of keeping the old dirty players from feeling like they can start winning again with $25k bags on β€œsigning day”. 2) CDC finally grasps point 1. It took awhile. 3) There’s a concept of a clearinghouse for β€œfair market value” to govern NIL deals within the House settlement. Many talking heads and old school cheaters are banking on this as a means of keeping mean old Texas and a few others under the NCAA’s thumb. The first time a booster attempts to pay an LB $50k for an autographed jersey and the clearinghouse declines it, a court will laugh at that case within days. If a guy wants to pay another guy some amount for his actual NIL, no clearinghouse can decide whether that is right or wrong. 4) 501(c)3s will go away as part of the deal. As for TOF, there is already an LLC under the umbrella and will continue in lieu of the charity side in order to facilitate the booster-side overall work with the AD. 5) Averaging payouts across all scholarships is folly. The lion’s share of the revenue will go as stated previously in this thread. 6) Corporate NIL will continue to benefit big programs, big brands, blue bloods and flavors of the month. Texas is always 3 of those 4 and often 4 of those 4 and will be one of the big winners in all of this. 7) Collectives are going to play a big role in helping maintain many of the non-revenue sports.

I replied that the fact that he had murdered someone would indicate he is a danger to society. Someone then suggested that I was suggesting he was guilty until proven innocent to which I replied the suspect had told the police that he was not alleged to have done it but that he in fact did actually do it. Never did I suggest that he not be given a trial or have any of his legal rights infringed upon. You people look for any slight nuance in a post that you can use to wow everyone with your enlightenment. Fuck off.

  13. I'm a tech guy, but its fin tech. We are in the risk mitigation business. We need to be able to look at a customer's financial data and ascertain if we want to loan to them at all, and if so, at what terms that give us a solid bet to get back our principal and interest. Our customers are businesses selling to consumers. Our poor data scientists have been scrambling to try to figure out how to work supply chain details into our models, and its looking like an impossible task. Even if you find data that correlates to more lending risk today, the rules will change tomorrow, or next week. They are frustrated as fuck and morale is declining as they try to chase the chaotic whipsaw economic policy. There are likely a million little stories like this at every company in the US (world?) that add up to an enormous amount of pointless effort and missed opportunities. A wholly different kind of governmental waste being inflicted upon the nation.

  17. on Bloomberg this morning a guest from Kentucky was talking about how all the bourbon producers are about to take it up the ass when the rest of the world quits buying the huge amount of bourbon aging and in storage. Apparently the craft cocktail movement got everybody’s Jimmies rustled so producers started maximizing product volume. A supplied demand problem was already looming, but Canada and Asia and foreign markets not buying bourbon might put a fork in it. Given that the Turtle and Rand represent Kentucky, this does not displease me.

  21. I almost had something like this happen when I was finishing up my current home, and about to move in. I have a 500 gal. propane tank buried in my side yard. I was the GC and we are in the county, so no permits or inspections, but still, you have industry safety standards. My tank runs to the house at no more than 10 psi, it is then regulated down to 4.5 psi, before finally being regulated down to 0.5 psi. Propane isn't supposed to enter the house at more than 0.5 psi, all gas appliances, fireplace inserts, etc. orifices are sized and designed to run at 0.5 psi. We were about 3-4 days from moving in, and we were cleaning the kitchen. I decided to try a burner out on my new cooktop. I reached down and turned the gas and hit the striker at the same time. When it lit, I had a fireball that blew the big pan drawers completely out to the end of the tracks, the underside of the cooktop was on fire, somehow, I was able to get back to the burner control knob and turn it off. I didn't have hair or eyebrows left. But the fireball was brief. It burned up just the sawdust that was still in the drawers, and went out. We had to have the cabinet sealer sanded back down, resealed it and everything was fine. Next morning I called the propane guy who had installed it, told him what had happened, and you could hear a pin drop. He, and his crew where out here in about 30 minutes, and went through the system. They had forgot to put in the valve that metered the gas flow to 0.5 psi, so I had 4.5 psi going to the cooktop. With seeing what happened with just 4.5 psi hitting air, after being on for a split second, I can say that if a valve had been left on for 5-10 minutes, and somehow got lit, it would have caused that kind of devastation. Even at 0.5 psi, and someone carelessly leaving a valve open for a day and it gets lit, you are going to have that kind of devastation, especially if the house is sealed up with minimal to no leaks. 27. It’s merely realizing that $20M/$21M isn’t going to be enough to compete. Texas and others are already way above that threshold across all sports. Texas dwarfs that in football alone. Programs at Alabama, LSU and numerous other dirtbags in the SEC plus guys like UCLA, Purdue, NW, Maryland, Vandy, most of the Big 12 and ACC are all begging for the $20M/$21M to be a hard cap. None of that is principled. They simply don’t have the money to make larger numbers work. This is like when the Royals or Twins bitch about the Dodgers. If they had the same access to capital, they’d be doing the same thing. They don’t, so they bitch. Whining that athletes are getting more money somewhere else and it makes it harder for your program to compete gets you collectively to the clearinghouse notion. It’s a house built of straw and kindling. I’m not saying anyone here has to like any of this. The only thing any of us can control is how you choose to respond to your circumstances. This chaos is here and will be around for a good long while. If collective bargaining is actually ever achieved, I do think that changes everything. That seems pretty fucking far from here though. All of this considered, I strongly advise enjoying ALL of the crying from the longstanding cheaters who rigged the sport in their favor. Watching Bama and Georgia cry repeatedly has been very fulfilling. They’re two of 12-15 doing it who have no shame in their complete hypocrisy. Watching Ohio State pivot and make the new terrain the same as the old terrain has been impressive, but they look like the only one capable of it.

  37. Bobby Burton How do you build an elite roster, an elite college football team? It’s done piece by piece and it’s done over a long period of time. In essence, a great program is created by taking multiple steps forward while suffering as few steps backward as possible. That’s really what Steve Sarkisian and GM Brandon Harris have done as well as or better than anybody in college football the last four years. There just haven’t been many missteps, many setbacks. So the forward momentum can keep building and building unabated. In my mind, that’s exactly what happened yet again yesterday with the addition of Emmett Mosley V. The Longhorns plucked the 6-foot-2 former Stanford receiver out of the portal who caught 48 passes in the final nine games of the season for the Cardinal. Mosley is that rare player who is only going to be a true sophomore but is already a proven commodity on the college level. That’s how you build a team. Strong piece by strong piece. With a never-ending eye toward improvement in every way. ** Mosley is a tremendous early start for the Horns in the portal. Texas essentially got a jump start since the portal doesn’t officially open until tomorrow. Coach Steve Sarkisian has said the Horns will be looking in the portal for a few spots. We are also told to expect Texas to be somewhat aggressive early in the portal. Only time will tell if that aggressiveness bears fruit. We’ll see how it goes. I think the Horns will be on the lookout for a tight end, at least one defensive lineman (possibly two) and possibly another pass rusher. With the addition of Mosley, I don’t expect the Horns to pursue another wide receiver, at least not at this time. Nor do I think the Horns will look to add a running back, in part because Tre Wisner, I am told, β€œhas taken another step” this spring and the depth behind him is encouraging. **
