  1. Probably my only response in this forum (filled with blind tribalism on all sides - the title of this post is sufficient proof). I don't have the patience for it, but thank you for the page. Your assessment is pretty spot-on, with the "I lost patience with the test-fail-test-fail-test-fail mentality quickly" being my attitude, too. Failure *is* an option... once. Don't keep failing and telling me it's a success. However, you can't argue with the ultimate success of the Falcon 9 series, including both cargo and crewed variants. They were primarily responsible for the success of the US commercial space efforts not sliding into the abyss of failure. Relying on the Russians was never going to be a winning hand - I told my leadership that back during the Shuttle program, pre-ISS. I actually caused a (minor) program incident when I inadvertently insulted my Russian counterpart by "daring to question" his computations (which were wrong - and I saw it/proved it early). When I was "counseled" for not just accepting his wrong data and fixing it later, I reminded them "that's how Challenger happened." They were not particularly pleased with that reminder, but I was right. WRT SpaceX, there are two types of people there now - the fanbois who think everything they do is great (and are evidenced by the crappy PAO-types they shove on broadcasts and the screaming idiots behind the glass at SpaceX mission control), and the ones who actually see the issues, but are somewhat afraid of the consequences of bringing up problems. I know several former colleagues who got there and left because they wanted to be the third type - the ones who see, identify, and voice not only the issue but the solutions... and that wasn't encouraged. Don't get me wrong - the SpaceX engineering team is doing some brilliant things, but the attitude getting to a successful and sustainable program is different than mine. They have a more disposable/test/fail/test/fail mentality that has never appealed to me.

  2. Some of our other favorite UT student athletes enjoying the game last night. I spy Swindle, Halter, et al from volleyball. Lance Jackson on the left?

  3. I can't tell y'all just how much I have enjoyed watching and listening to these ladies play this year. Starting out the season #1, winning 23 of the first 24, losing our first game to a Stanford team in an Arizona tournament. We got into SEC play and didn't lose again until mid March against a #2 Florida, but won 2/3 from them at their house...still playing well, then lost 2/3 to Tenn Vols against the fastest throwing pitcher on the planet...but bounced back by winning 2/3 against a top 10 LSU team....then got our butts whooped by getting swept in Norman...always tough for us...went limping into the SEC tourney only to get bounced by a #1 aggy team (the highlight of their year) 14-2....time to regroup....came back to win the Regional by winning 3 straight....then in came Clemson to give us a fit, losing our 1st game and had to win twice...down one game, trailing late with Clemson baserunners 2 & 3 no outs, and on the brink of being eliminated....but survived and won 2/3! Wow. Then to the WCWS to knock out Florida, OU (a hump we were finally able to get over), then had to face Tenn Vols again, and won and on to the finals to take 2/3 from Tech. Just an unbelievable season that we will remember forever. Such a wonderful sports year for these young ladies who said over and over how much they loved each other, worked hard together, pumped up each other and really appreciated Mike White's coaching and support. I've had more fun watching and posting and hoping that winning the World Series would happen, but there were no guarantees. Loved the play of Mia and Teagan, Stewie, Henry and the others...having to survive the loss at shortstop and watching Mike try Stewie there, only to move her back to LF. Don't know how many posters wanted Mike's head for making numb scull decisions, and all who knew they could coach better....yea, right. Anyhow, really enjoyed the posts here (most...not all) and Js1's contributions....a women's sport's book of knowledge...hope next year can duplicate and we can repeat. Waking up this morning with a National Championship was great. Now, I'll watch some men's baseball and root against LSU, Tenn, and Arky....maybe I'll pull for UTSA...enjoyed the season.

  4. Such a likable group of athletes. They didn’t clown the other team when they had success, didn’t hang their heads or acknowledge clowning from the other side when they failed. They just went about their damn business and won a title. Fantastic representation of our University.

  5. I'm curious, has a #1 national seed ever failed to advance to the super regionals?

  6. With Reese Atwood's two-out single through the left side to score Kayden Henry, it marked the first first-inning run allowed by Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady since April 17, 2025. With its five first-inning runs to begin Friday's game, Texas has scored the most runs in a single inning (5) against Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady throughout her three-year career. By not allowing an earned run through the game's seven innings, Teagan Kavanextended her consecutive innings pitched at the WCWS without allowing an earned run to 31.2 straight, the longest streak by any Division I pitcher in the event's history. The previous record was 27.2 consecutive innings by Oklahoma State's Amy Day set during the 1994 WCWS. With the victory on Friday night, the Texas softball program set a new program record for most wins in a single season with 56, surpassing the previous mark (55) set by the 2006 and 2024 squads. As a result of winning Friday night's game and clinching the 2025 National Championship, Texas becomes the second-lowest seed (6th) to ever win a NCAA Division I Softball National Championship. Texas becomes the first SEC softball program to win a NCAA Division I Softball National Championship since Florida completed its back-to-back national championship seasons in 2014 and 2015.

  12. TK was 23-5 with a 2.61 ERA after the game 1 loss to Clemson…. Finishes the year 28-5 with a 2.16 ERA. She pitched 37.1 innings since that game and allowed no earned runs against Clemson, Florida, OU, Tenn, and 14.2 innings against Tech

  17. Remember in next year’s thread when “does it matter how many pitches a pitcher throws in softball?” comes up that, yes, it actually does eventually fucking matter.

  18. As noted around 4 pages earlier, the email from Texas with a link to shirts showed up fast. Best part about the shirts: 2025 NCAA Softball National Champions Second best part about the shirts: No sign of the garish SEC icon anywhere to be seen.

  24. The reusable, landable boosters were built on top of original NASA designs that were never built because they were deemed too costly at the time. NASA put people on the moon, multiple times, almost 60 years ago. NASA has successfully landed and operated like a dozen different rovers or other vehicles on fucking Mars, starting in the 1970s. NASA operated a fully reusable and highly successful (aside from a pair of spectacular and deadly failures) space plane for 30 years, starting in the early 1980s. There is a much longer list than this I'm not going to bother going into, I think you get the point. SpaceX has nothing, and I mean NOTHING on NASA. This is why it is such a complete fucking travesty that it has basically been allowed to absorb a great deal of NASA, aside from special operations like JPL.

  27. my boy Chief valiantly fought cancer for months, and this morning the fight finally ended with a draw. Chief went through a lot in his 14.5 years, and we nearly lost him a few different times over the years, especially the time when he suffered an aneurysm at the beginning of the pandemic. but through it all he always kept smiling and wagging his tail. nothing could stop him from loving his life, and he was happy right up until the moment he passed. it gives me lots of peace and comfort to know that Chief is finally on the other side of the rainbow bridge, running and playing with his big sister Bailey. Good boy Chief. Papa loves you. 🧡🧡🧡
