I'm with you on this, but I would go farther. MM's presentation was nothing short of brilliant and authentic. The green sneaker...what can you say? I don't think the crazies on the right are moved by people representing a viewpoint opposite to what hate radio tells them to think. They may be moved by irrefutable evidence. Show the crime scene photos. Let's stop being so intellectual about this. Let's get visceral. Nothing else has worked to sway the meatheads who so casually dismiss these child slaughters. Show them. You can't look at gruesome reality and prattle about Hunter Biden, gas prices, or some abstract notion of your imagined rights. Here. Look. Are you good with this?18 points

Whatever happens the next 2 or 3 days, I will not forget this 2022 Texas softball team. What a special, exhilarating and EXHAUSTING ride. Started off beating a top-15 Clemson and then losing to FGCU Dropped 5 straight games in Clearwater, which included that 7 error game against UCF, and looking like a team that would not even be in the tournament The 6-run comeback against Minnesota The 5 game winning streak against ULL and LSU, including the walkoff win over LSU where we were down 7-0 and 10-4 The win against #1 OU on Cat Day The Baylor game 2 meltdown (14 run loss) Mike flipping the bird in the Big 12 tournament in a loss to OSU Dolcini's Superwoman Regional Performance in Seattle, with special guest Bella Dayton Texas picking itself off the mat after a 6 run loss to Arkansas to win the next two, 3-1 and 3-0, featuring SOPHIA FREAKING SIMPSON shutting out the Hogs in game 3 Kicking UCLA's ass, then shaking off the loss to OU to run through Arizona, shutting out OSU and the fucking 6 unanswered runs to beat OSU again The unlikely heroes of the postseason most of all: Dayton, Simpson, Day, Czech, Jefferson's power, the clutch Texas defense and the uncharacteristic Ok State defense What a fucking ride this team put us on. And they're 2 wins from a title, a feat no Texas team, even those being dragged to OKC by Cat and Luna, could do.15 points

This interview should be required viewing by every American. I’d rather make everyone watch this than ask for ID at the polls. My mind reels as I try to comprehend what it means to start the day with 11 students alive and end the day with 11 students dead while you bleed out under your desk. When you read in the Bible about mourning and repentance, about putting on sackcloth, or about Job’s friends tearing robes and throwing dust on their head and sitting on the ground without a word— this is a sane and appropriate response to something like this. It’s what Americans need to do, and then to reflect on what sort of world we have built. If you can think about 19 ten year olds making terrified calls to 9/11 before they are shot at point blank range in their classroom on “Award Ceremony Day,” then pivot to fucking Hunter Biden, then reassess your own contact with reality and any sort of coherent ethics of life.14 points

We could lose today and tomorrow in 22-0 games and I wouldn't be any less proud of this team. But let's not do that, okay?12 points

Texas wasn’t supposed to be in OKC, let alone the title game. Not even Cat got any of her 4 teams this far. We went through UW on the road, Arky on the road and took down the 2019 champs, perennial contender Arizona, and twice in the same day, an OSU team who kicked our ass up and down the field in Stillwater and on this exact field in the Big 12 tournament in May. Enjoy the ride, because these ladies sure are. One of the final 2 teams left. Any given day. Why not us?11 points

I'm running behind on the thread, sorry if I'm repeating someone else. I think it's time we look at the NRA's hold on the GOP in a broader light. I think it's more than the votes of rabid gun nuts. We know Russian money was funneled through the NRA to the GOP. We know the NRA wanted to set up a public connection to Russia by having some sort of sister organization there. There was a controversial 2015 visit by NRA officials where they met with a high Russian official who is a hard line Russian imperialist. We know of the Paul Ryan taped conversation where Russia was mentioned. Ryan flatly denied the conversation took place. When presented with a transcript, he said it was false. When presented with the actual tape, he said it was all just joking. It appears that no organization has greater power with the GOP than the NRA. Why? The NRA is the spigot for Russian money. They also have a list and proof that GOPs have taken the money in whatever form. Why would the NRA leadership do this? Money and power, of course. But they also sponsored Maria Butina and Alexander Torshin in making important connections. Butina is powerful enough with the NRA that she could threaten a person who dropped out of the Russian visit with political ruin. While scurrying around looking for the clearly attainable hard facts of Russian "connections" and possible violations of the law, I think journalists are reluctant to pursue the bigger possible story of the NRA being a Russian operation altogether. They don't merely get duped by Russian agents; they're Russian agents themselves. Circumstantial evidence: The NRA's absolute power over the GOPs; The NRA as a funnel for money to the GOPS; The GOP's astoudingly staunch support for Russia who clearly acts an enemy; The NRA, whose members are heavily in the NRA for reasons of gun safety, seems happy paving the way for discord over horrendous events like Uvalde. These events damage the US and makes our government seem ineffective. This matches Russian strategy in undermining the West especially the US. I think the Russians very shrewdly compromised a powerful organization. It's likely easier and maybe more effective than compromising persons in government who come and go. The NRA is forever.11 points

It's not even worth reminding fucksticks like him that after 9/11, we reacted with reforms that included prohibiting weapons, including knives and other blades, on airplanes, and we all have to go through metal detectors and take off our shoes before entering the terminal, unless we have TSA pre-check or the like, which requires something that seems remarkably like a background check. And we're not talking about banning all guns, just like we weren't taking about banning all planes after 9/11, you straw man piece of dick.11 points

It’s funny how so many in the media think this will have a chilling effect on people coming forward when the lone person that actually has proof in this case, Depp, won in court. The problem is that regardless of your claims regarding abuse, proof is required in the court of law. We have seemed to gone away from that concept a bit in the media and in truth the televising of more trials would do quite a bit to help people understand what is needed to in a court of law. The real chilling aspect isn’t the tv in the court, but AH making false claims and then having those claims shown to everyone and so people have lost faith in the “me too” cause.10 points

I just volunteered to coach my girls recreational basketball team. I had to do a background check, complete online training, and agree to a number of ethical and moral statements about how to coach young children in a recreational basketball league. I literally had to go through more steps to coach kids than the shooter did to murder them. Also a ban on weapons like the AR15 and a higher age limit would have stopped Uvalde and other shootings.9 points

It is a law that is inherently hard to enforce. Proving lying beyond a reasonable doubt is close to impossible. It is the same reason why perjury is rarely prosecuted. Substantially increased enforcement is a pipe dream as you'll quickly run into diminishing returns. And, that's the problem with existing gun laws. They aren't designed to work. In fact, they are designed to not work. Laws that require the buyer to be honest on a form are going to be ineffective at preventing unqualified individuals from getting access to guns. What we know will work is laws targeted at sellers and manufacturers. There are less of them the buyers, so they are easier to regulate, easier to identify, and easier to punish. Further, any sort of volume seller is going to be incentivized to follow the law rather than lose their ability to sell. This is why we need to raise the minimum age to purchase guns, add waiting periods, require licensure for gun ownership (and more robust licensure than we require for driving), and regulate what can be manufactured for civilian use. Now, none of this means getting rid of things like a 4473 form. But, we can't rely on that type of regulation to do the hard work of actually reducing unsafe access to guns and reducing gun violence.9 points

The early recruiting ruined many kids, and many programs. I saw kid after kid commit at 13-14 years old and then coast....fast forward 2-3 years, the school pulls the offer and now all the other schools are full. My daughter was caught in between, as we moved to Florida 2 days before her freshman year. Regionally, that really changed the schools that she would look at. Recruiting for baseball/softball is very tough. Fully funded schools have only 12 scholarships for a team of 25-30 kids, and those can get chopped up really small. I know girls who received nothing more than book money and a meal plan, and I know kids that played for free. My kid was fortunate, as she got 80% her freshman year, and was fully funded the balance of her career. If you are the parent of a young girl who dreams of playing D1 someday, don't be naive. Most kids aren't as good as us parents think, everyone doesn't get a "full ride", and the coaches only like your kid until something better comes along. I told my kid to pick the school she wanted to be at, even if softball ended tomorrow.9 points

That's quite the revisionist history - they added the charge against the buyer so they could drop it with a plea deal, but didn't even bother pressing charges against rittenhouse for conspiring to commit a felony, and participating in a straw man FFL sale. It's almost like we don't tend to make examples of people who are white and supporting the police. Weird, huh?8 points
