  7. In 2018 Texas A&M declined to schedule Texas in non-conference games for 2022 and 2023 because their schedule was full. They chose to play (lose to) Appalachian State and Louisiana-Monroe instead of playing Texas. Texas instead scheduled Alabama. Texas beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2023 which is the reason Texas is in the playoff. Texas A&M's cowardice (and pathological need to make every decision based on how it would affect Texas and public perception that they're UT's little brother) is why Texas made the College Football Playoff. In 2021 Texas A&M leaked the news that Texas and Oklahoma were going to join the SEC in an effort to sabotage the move. They thought that they had enough stroke to prevent the move by making it public and reminding the world of the so-called gentlemen's agreement. They leaked this before the various conference commissioners met to vote on the start of the 12-team playoff. Alarmed by this move that further shifted the power between conferences, the Big 10, Pac-12, and ACC formed an alliance and voted against starting the 12-team playoff in 2023. It would later be approved to start in 2024. Texas A&M's cowardice (and pathological need to make every decision based on how it would affect Texas and public perception that they're UT's little brother) is why Florida State (and Georgia, and Ohio State, etc.) did not make the College Football Playoff. Literally everything they're complaining about is their fault.

  8. Texas is a great team. My confidence is more rooted in watching what UW’s done since DeBoer got here. This team reminds us all of the Marques Tuiasosopo 2000 team of destiny that beat Miami (best team ever?) and won the rose bowl for their paralyzed brother Curtis Williams. They’re so locked in it’s crazy. UW is pretty similar to last year but has a much better secondary (added CB Jabbar Muhammad), mainly due to familiarity with the system in year 2. Our safeties look like completely different guys from last year. RB Dillon Johnson (Mississippi State) is a complete back and a big upgrade from last year. UW could absolutely lose this game but I would never bet against them. They’ve so been through the fire. Coach K is the other god and the best decision sark ever made. He was beyond loyal to coach Petersen and sark came in at the right time (when Jimmy douchebag Lake was HC) to snatch him away. No coach K and where would Texas be?? That being said, we got 3 NFL receivers, a veteran stud qb, an OL full of NFL talent and a healthy defense that had to win many games to keep us undefeated when health was a major issue. Everybody’s healthy now. I do pull for Texas and sark most of the time. Happy he’s turned it around. Happy for Choate. I’ll be in New Orleans and it should be fun.

  9. Look our previous coach was Tom Herman. Sark seems like a tower of mental health compared to that guy.

  14. A few things worth fleshing out here, in case folks care. There have been a few really big donors who are fatiguing. The medium-sized guys, call it $10k-$100K annually, aren't fatiguing, there just needs to be more of them. The crowdfunding level participants are great and growing, but that kind of base takes years to grow. What's happening in the portal is unlikely to ever be something that collectives can truly handle, Texas or anyone else. TOF is helping build a floor. Is it going to help us land a 5 star recruit? Tangentially. Is it going to help young backups heading towards starting roles and specific key players at non-star positions? For sure. This is football only. A lot of good stuff is also happening in many of the other sports. TOF still needs a ton of help in football and needs CDC backing it with the guys in his pocket. That considered, some of the dire statements you may read elsewhere are coming from a key and sizeable donor who is concerned directionally and rightly fatiguing. There's more activity than just his efforts though, and that's honestly never considered when those thoughts are posted. Your point about Nolen is likely very valid in multiple instances for ATM, but regarding Nolen, they had a deal with him before cutting Fisher loose, covered by the money. Them being delusional about Robinson staying is likely triggering the ol'renegotiation with Nolen. In reality, Nolen is a good DL and not a great DL. He has a low pain tolerance and pulls himself out of games regularly. He was the highest rated guy in his class, and that is what is causing the aggies to desperately try to hang on to him. Perception. That's it. Liucci is smarter than I give him credit for, then, as I'm kind of afraid of Colton Thomasson following his friend to Texas as well.

  17. The very best thing that can be said about Russia's current status is that it is not losing strategically significant territory and it may make marginal gains from time to time. But overall the front could properly be characterized as "static." And from an American standpoint, that's fine. I know a lot of people are emotionally invested in Ukraine and fervently hope that the Ukrainians will be able to expel the invaders from the whole of its territory. But speaking purely of America's interests here and being completely dispassionate, the current status quo benefits us more than an unequivocal Ukrainian victory would. Right now, while Russia is bogged down in Ukraine, it is unable to threaten any of our Nato allies. Even the Baltic countries, which the Pentagon has always worried could not be readily defended in the event of an invasion, now face no realistic threat from Russia. An end to the war would mean that Russia would have a chance to rebuild and replenish its military. But for now, it has to increase its budget just to keep up with the stocks it is losing on a daily basis to the Ukrainians. Russia is militarily weaker than it was in January 2022, and that decline is continuing. And the decline isn't just military. It's economic and diplomatic. The sanctions haven't had the crushing effect for which one might have hoped. But they've had an effect all the same. The Russian economy is stagnant; inflation is high. That's right, friends--it's the Fed's great fear: stagflation. And there's not a damned thing the central bank can do about it. Russia certainly can't sell weapons on the international market; nobody wants their garbage. At the same time, Russia's military ineffectiveness means its diplomatic stature is decreasing. Everywhere from Kazakhstan to Armenia, its former satellites are exerting their independence. And maybe once upon a time, someone might have given a fuck about Russia's position on Gaza or Venezuela; now, nobody does. All of Russia's losses have worked to the benefit of the United States. Russia's losses in the international arms market are being picked up by American manufacturers. Russia's diminishing diplomatic stature has been filled by an increased American role in the Caucasus and Central Asia. American O&G producers are making up for the loss of Russian hydrocarbons on the international market. America's allies are finally realizing that they need to contribute to allied defense. And all this is being accomplished at virtually no cost. The United States spends money that . . . goes to American defense contractors. We get a jobs program; Russia gets dead people. Why would we want this to stop? And I think the answer from the position of the United States Government is, "we don't." So, yeah, @Ken Griffey Jr--Russia is doing just great. As an American, I kind of hope Russia keeps doing this great indefinitely.

  19. In 2015 my wife and I had a son that passed away shortly after. I was devastated but held on to my faith and was given plenty of strength for my family. Longhorn football has always been my #1 favorite hobby. It was during the malikmas that I discovered shaggy. Omg I needed it. The laughs I had the excitement of that class was the only amount of fun I had in months. Our team still stunk but the board was what I needed. When shaggy went down needless to say our team still sucked but I loved the board thank you @blacklab. Thank you @immamac for saving the community. Now that we've finally had a season worth cheering for I know I couldn't have enjoyed it more without surly. Playoff bound fuck Washington. TEXAS!

  20. They keep saying Texas is the fraud and got in because of politics and media. I’m listening to some analysts and podcasts these last day or so, nearly everyone is saying they are fine with the top 4, but logically if FSU should be in then it’s Alabama that should have been left out and the top four should have been Michigan, Washington, FSU, and Texas.

  22. :-)) Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247) — Last but not least, I’m really starting to feel good about Texas’ chances of flipping McKinney five-star safety Xavier Filsaime off of his Florida pledge. While I doubt a flip would happen before the official visit is taken on Dec. 15-17, I still feel really good about the Longhorns’ chances of adding what would be their fourth five-star prospect to the 2024 recruiting class. This one feels really similar to other high profile flips the staff has pulled off in the past, and as we’re now 10 days away from Filsaime’s official visit starting — the stars are starting to align.

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247) Jerand Bradley (Texas Tech WR): "I wouldn’t be surprised if the Longhorns were to get Bradley in on a visit as Texas was one of five programs mentioned by the source when I asked which programs have the most buzz at the moment." Trey Moore (UTSA EDGE): " ... he’s sure to be one of the more coveted players at the EDGE position in all of the portal." " ... it’s Texas who’s Moore’s current favorite school." Xavier Filsaime: " ... I’m really starting to feel good about Texas’ chances of flipping McKinney five-star safety Xavier Filsaime." 29. This is the thought experiment. How many top 10 position coaches/coordinators will A&M have? Currently, maybe DL but I think that's a stretch. Texas definitely has a top 10 OC (Sark), a top 10 DC (PK), a top 10 OL coach (Flood), a top 10 DL coach (Davis), a top 10 TE/ST coach (Banks), and a top 10 RB coach (Choice).
