there has to be more to this story

Penn State was OK with coaches raping little boys as long as they were winning.  Why would you think there is more to this story?

Penn State lost this game. This was the team with Saquon Barkley in the backfield.

Got 3 more points and still lost.

First and goal from the 7 with 7:53

fake handoff to saquan, qb 3yd run to 4

fake handoff to saquan, qb 1 yd run to 3

handoff to saquan -3 yards

FG, 38-27 5:42

OSU gets 6 with a failed 2, 38-33 4:20

PSU next possession from their own 15 the OL turns into a sieve. Wiffed blocks on every play.

Saquan -7, -3, 5. Punt to osu 47.

Osu takes the lead by 1 with a failed 2. Osu kicks it short, psu gets the ball ath their own 40 with Psu turns it over on downs in 4 plays.

I guess they could, but it would make more sense to tell them Rhule's actual record which is 2-23 against teams ranked in the top 25?

That's pretty bad.

He caught my eye when he turned around Temple. Without question, he's a type of coach who can get a program on track. He's taken over two shit programs and turned them around. If he stays at nebraska for at least another 3 years, I'm willing to bet he gets them to the CCG.

I've also noticed that his offenses are average at best and he seems mediocre when it comes to developing a QB. A perfect fit for B10 football.

Nike had that Bowerman line of running shoes that covered several different models in around 2000.  Those shoes were extremely legit.  Every other running shoe they made that didn't say Bowerman was shit.

Those were the best shoes I’ve ever owned. The last ones I owned of that line were so good that I stopped practicing in cleats when we were on our shitty, dry high school field. I was better when I wore those. I still look on eBay to see if someone might have an unused pair.

When Rhule was coaching at Baylor, he talked about Penn State a lot, and I thought his ambitions were (1)NFL and (2)Penn State. He's jumped jobs a lot, and was just getting Baylor together when he jumped to the Carolina Panthers. His biggest strengths are his organization, and he wins the games he should win. I have never been enamored of his handling of the quarterback room. I don't know if his ceiling is like Franklin's, or if he's just left programs about the time they were reaching the point that they could compete against top 25 teams. Both Baylor and Nebraska were basket cases when he got there. Baylor's Sugar Bowl win was mostly with Rhule players, and he is big on recruiting measurables. He moves players between position groups a lot. I know the NFL kicked him out, but NFL coaching and college are different beasts. I know Temple, Baylor and Nebraska were all happy with him. Good hire for Penn State? I don't know. If he'll stay there long enough to finish a program build, we can find out if he can beat top 25 teams.

The difference between Franklin’s buyout and Jimbo’s is that Franklin’s contract has a duty to mitigate that requires him to look for a new job and the new salary offsets the buyout so psu only pays the difference, including if he becomes an analyst not just a coach.

Jimbo had no duty to mitigate and there was also no offset if he got a new job, so A&M pays him the buyout no matter what.

So how does that duty to mitigate work legally if Franklin either flat out refuses to look for a new job, or sends in an application once every 6 months to Starbucks - does that cancel his buyout?

I don’t know what the requirement is, but he’ll have plenty of schools calling him. I wouldn’t be surprised if him going and interviewing for a job is enough to meet the expectation.

It’s more about the offset and it applying to any football related activity so him going and doing tv still offsets the buyout.

But I expect he’ll end up somewhere like VT. If not for next season the year after.

He can take the Auburn/Arkie/Florida/etc. job in the offseason and work for a dollar.  Take that 8 mil and buy players for 5 years on PSU's dime.

An analyst job isn't going to pay much and would only be a tiny savings.

Franklin is 53. His ego won’t let his career end like that. He’ll be coaching again in a year or two.

If I’m Oregon State (left behind) I am taking a shot. Franklin’s overall win loss record is a factor. We know his win loss record with AP Top 25 teams. But Getting a school that has kinda a shitty tv contract to a bowl game for that money is a factor. Having a good enough record in a poor conference to possibly make the conference CCG is a factor. Every once in a while he will give you a chance to spoil another team’s chances. The problem is money for many of these mid tier type schools. He’s getting paid $50 million just to fuck off. So unless he wants to rebuild and play for pride it’s a hard sell.

I’m sure there’s some legalese that prevents him from taking next to nothing, but he should definitely try to take less than he could otherwise get and put it towards players or staff.

ESPN/Fox is just welfare for coaches who need a job so they can keep getting paid by the school who fired them until they’re ready for a new job

Me too, plus I dont think that is his personality to shit on PSU like that. He may take a gig for 4 mil, but something like that would be crappy.

Yeah, that's how you fuck over the former school. Which plenty of coaches have done as analysts. And as corroborated by MarkStanco's general wrongness, James Franklin is 100% a petty, angry, vindictive little bitch who will absolutely fuck over Penn St. for a couple years.
