there's so much to unpack from today, so i'll just start listing them. tuesday was devastating for oakland, today was twice as devastating for the yankees.  they had just started to play better.

I think ATL is proper fucked having lost this game. I still dislike the Braves from the 90s but I dislike Bud Selig way more.

Oh well Go Giants at this point.

does anyone have a gif of correa waiting for altuve so they could do their routine before allowing tucker and everyone else through to continue doing theirs?

tell me that’s a guy looking to leave this team. i want to believe.

I didn't think the issue was Correa looking to leave as much as Crane/Click not making a big enough offer.

Yep.  I think Carlos has given pretty clear signals that if the Astros are competitive with their offer, he stays an Astro.

A competitive offer being 10 years, $300 million.

McHugh struggling and letting the Red Sox back in the game.   Was rooting for him to do well tonight.

Yes, a competitive offer for Carlos and a competitive offer to the front office are on 2 different continents right now

per radio talk, and someone claiming to have some info - the team correa plan is to break the bank. Lindor+

It's a real shame. They are going to offer five years because reasons and I'm going to be sad.

I think it's bigger than just money, it's the opportunity to not be vilified by every fanbase outside of Houston and enjoying the process of being pursued by multiple suitors. Money is definitely a huge part of it but Correa has been looking forward to this opportunity for years.

He gone.

If he wants and can get 10 years, then great, do it.  He will not get it as an Astro.  And that is ok.

Fuck it, see if we can scam the Pirates again and trade for Oneil Cruz as his replacement if Carlos leaves.

We will know how serious Crane is about signing Correa within the first five days after we win the World Series because that is the time frame for a team to make a qualifying offer to its free agents. That is another reason I am extremely skeptical about Correa returning because Click doesn't want to be in a situation where his player's intent is truly unknown because that costs the opportunity to get a compensatory pick in return. The team will either make a serious, big-money offer with the understanding that he will take it, or they're going to make him a QO which he will reject. The emotional theatrics we saw in the last regular season game weren't just performative, they were a blinking sign that's he's taking his talents elsewhere.

Gourmand is drunk. It’s an absolute that CC gets a QO. That’s purely a administrative move.

I was under the impression it was an either/or proposition for the team making the QO. That's good to know.

Making a QO doesn’t stop negotiations. It only means that if he signs elsewhere, the Astros get the compensatory draft pick.

Does the strike change anything on negotiations? Or at least delay it?

or nah?

figure the high end FAs gonna get paid no matter what.

Sure… but only once since the QO began has a player rejected a QO and then signed with the original team. Mike Moustakas.  Correa’s situation is nothing like that.  A QO would be a smart move if the Astros don’t plan to be competitive in the Correa market, but a terrible signal if they really intend to sign him.

I realize that about the compensation, but I thought the effect of the initial QO being rejected meant that the team couldn't negotiate a new deal without significant penalties attached.

Either way it's a no-brainer that both Correa and JV will receive QOs because the team knows they're gone but would be happy to have them stick around on a one-year deal. My guess is Correa will sign with Miami, that seems like a city both he and Daniella would love to live in.

CC will receive a QO and reject it. That makes hm a FA. And the Astros can be a player in that FA negotiation. If they sign him then no compensatory draft pick. Happens all the time.

Has happened exactly once. Because the player and his agent badly misjudged the market.

Before you say it… I was wrong.  It used to happen a lot, but not since 2016.

Most of those were 3-4 year deals, with the longest being Chris Davis with the Orioles for 7 yrs.  lulz

Happened twice last year. LeMahieu and Realmuto

If they think there’s a 90+% chance he’s gone, you are suggesting they don’t make a QO because of the optics/psychology that CC will take them out of the running? And the Astros should give up the draft compensation, if not making a QO increases their chances of him resigning for less than market from 0% to 1%?

^^^^
They 100% make a qualifying offer.  They know it won’t be accepted but necessary to be eligible for a compensatory draft pick. It just starts the process. And it’s is no insult to Carlos. Just business.

And JV as well.

Yes. But not Greinke. A player can only get one QO and he’s already received one fron the Dodgers.

This guy was sitting a few rows in front of a friend on Thursday and got booted for talking shit, mainly about trash cans. Guess he sat in the wrong (or right) section on Friday.

Astros minor league player of the year? C Luke Berryhill. He slashed .295/.413/.561 with 15HR and 54 rbi in A ball.

I consider myself fortunate I don’t have to mingle with the riff raff when I go to MMP.

Related to Damon Berryhill?

Between Berryhill, Lee, and Diaz, do we really have three catching prospects with actual major league potential? Never thought I’d see the day.

No relation to Damon, apparently. At least according to South Carolina (where he played) 247.
