2021 Houston Astros Thread

National broadcast guys have been fine, but they keep belaboring the GIDP for the Astros, as if it's some disastrous stat.

Through yesterday's games, Houston(82)  had one more GIDP than NYY(81.)  Meanwhile they have 39 more runs, 54 more hits, and 49 fewer SOs than the second place team in those categories.  Astros are 6th in BB, with 36 fewer than LAD, which has 354 freebies on the season.

Tell the whole fucking story, dudes.

Yeah gidps tend to happen when your offense constantly has runners on base. It's like bitching about LOB numbers even though the offense is #1 in runs/gm.

Yeah. Plus this team doesn’t strike out. Consistently putting the ball in play is another contributing factor in the DP numbers.

Exactly.  If you have the best batting average in the league and the lowest strikeout percentage in the league, you're probably going to lead the league in total runners left on and double plays.  You're also going to score a metric ton of runs.

So Jones sucks. Misplays a fly ball and gives up a run. Strands a man on third.

Does any organization have more AAAA players than the Astros?

When fully healthy, does any team have more All Star caliber players than the Astros?

Honest question: has Jones done anything that has helped this team win a game? I can't remember a single meaningful contribution.

RBI hit against Keuchel in the Sox series and RBI last night to get the team off to a good start.

But the dropped foul pop up in the Tatis at bat against the Pads still overshadows a lot.
