Austin getting what they blindly voted for.  Gotta admit, it's bad when even the DA's office is questioning the Judge on those reduced bails.  I guess because it wasn't caused by their intentional delays, they're mad someone's doing their jobs?

I'm not sure that's the case.

On her website, this is about the closest thing I could find about reducing bail:

Quote

JP5 can also play a role in helping to provide bail hearings as it encompasses 3 courtrooms. I feel strongly about our citizens having the right to counsel at their first appearance and want to play a role in making this available to our citizens who find themselves charged with a crime.

I would not have interpreted that to mean she was going to violate the law to lower bail for defendants.

“We’re positioning our investments in the homelessness response system as one of the city of Austin’s top funding priorities, which is critical. And you’ve heard it before, we’ll say it again, our budget is our moral compass. Where we put our money is where our heart is,” Austin City Council Member Natasha Harper-Madison said at the time.

Evidently a woman accidentally shot herself in the hand yesterday in the produce section of the Mueller HEB.  She allegedly had a gun in her purse and she reached in and whammo.

Out of all the HEBs in Texas, I would have never guessed that the Mueller location would see a self-shootout.

It's the epicenter of where people who didn't grow up in Texas (and therefore are less likely to learn how to handle firearms growing up) live around these parts.  Makes sense to me as a self-inflicted wound story.  If she had shot someone else, then yeah, I would be surprised.

They're armed and ready to ensure every neighborhood becomes a soulless clone of walkable, yet still unaffordable, communities across the country.  With enough vigilance, we'll all be living in an undifferentiated hellscape of brightly painted cheap building materials stretching from one coast to the other.  This nine-fingered hero is doing us all a service, really.

Have you seen all the brown people who don't live there who show up to fish that pond? They need that militia.

2021?  The carp have been in Lake Austin for 20+ years now.

eta:  https://www.reportingtexas.com/renewing-the-battle-against-the-fish-that-ate-lake-austin/

Quote

Officials introduced the carp, 18-inch-long herbivorous fish, to Lake Austin in 2002 as a biological control for hydrilla, a fast-growing aquatic plant.

Quote

The lake reached a tipping point in 2011. Unfettered hydrilla growth led City of Austin officials to put larger numbers of the sterilized grass carp in the lake. Over the next two years, 30,000 of the fish were pumped in.

These are carp genetically modified to be sterile and will eventually die off.

It's good that the City learned their lesson. Previously I forget which year, they also released into Town Lake 11k carp which, un-surprisingly, ate every green thing in the lake.

I've been paddle boarding Town Lake since 2007. I remember soon after their release that the lake was absolutely barren of any vegetation. A few years after the release, I remember seeing schools of 30+ inch carp swim around the lake. I don't imagine they were 30 inches when they were released so those fuckers ate well, too well. I knew those carp died off a couple of years ago when the vegetation started coming back. A good sign is to watch for vegetation in Barton Creek from the bridge to the mouth of Town lake.

I also remember the enormous backlash from bass fisherman about Lake Austin. Lake Austin was a well known lake for producing big bass. After the carp release, the vegetation disappered and so did the bass fishing.

They started building fenced-in habitats across from Commons Ford park.  I haven't been on the lake in a while, but I remember those were supposed to be researching habitats to replenish the bass population, IIRC.  Guessing that went nowhere.

Thank god. Need more articles like this so they’ll stay in LA and NYC.

Tim Dillon doesn’t live in Austin.

Which the article says, I guess. Tweet is sort of misleading.

Quote

Tim Dillon was the first to jump ship, with the Thanksgiving star fleeing Austin after just a few months in the Lone Star State.

Dillon had followed Rogan to Austin in 2020, only to make an emergency exit by the end of that year after discovering that the city didn't have enough good restaurants.

I mean what the fuck does it matter? Austin has already jumped the shark.

I'd rather live in Dallas or Houston. The populace in Austin has become insufferable.

Austin is a shithole. Please tell everyone you know. Please tell strangers. Please tell Forbes to write articles about it.

Forbes likes A&M better than UT, so let them eat Dixie Chicken.

Just dropping by. You suggest that "Austin," however you envision that entity, voted for what looks like an abuse of power by a traffic ticket judge? Do you think she ran on that policy?

The Austin voters seem to be voting for a more relaxed judicial system, setting priority on prosecuting police corruption.  Stuff like this is no longer surprising (not to mention the latest guy who shot at police officers and was let off with probation).

The only people in that article I have ever heard of are Rogan and Gillis.

Sounds like some of these people just moved here because Rogan did. I mean who the fuck moves here thinking it’s going to be like LA or NYC?
