saw 2 songs of aether realm at radio east last night before "lightning in the area" stopped the show. unfortunate because they sounded pretty good. after over an hour delay gwar took the stage and did gwar things. always fun.

i truly don't understand the travis county weather policy for outdoor shows. they kick everyone out of the venue and tell you to "take shelter in your vehicle". i took a fucking uber so guess i'll go stand in the street and get rained on? we never actually left the venue, and it never rained, but it's stupid to make people leave the only place where there's shelter.

that is strictly due to insurance/lawyers.  It has zero to do with the logic of where people should be during a weather event.

Allison Russell at Scoot Inn.

She’s ethereal, defiant, badass, bilingual, Québécois de l'île de Montréal, and one helluva singer. This is our fourth time to see her, and she’s getting better and better. The possessive lesbians in the crowd can be a bit much (she kind of broke through playing with Brandi Carlisle), but they’re at least happy about things.

It’s been a slow May for concerts this year but June is packed.

Simple Minds in irving

The Feel has a free show in garland at the town square

Black Keys at moody amphitheater

I have tickets for Head and the Heart at southside but I may have to work

Blue Stones at echo lounge

Keeping my eye on Tripping Daisy and Stick Figure. I’ve seen them both a couple of times in the last few years so I might get tix closer to the shows depending on price.

Who's on drums?

Daxx Nielsen, one of Rick's sons.  Daxx has been the drummer for them for about the last 15 years.  He has definitely improved since the last time I saw them about 6 years ago.

We were there also, 3rd time seeing her for us. So good.

best view is not always the best acoustics - it rained early in the evening then turned beautiful but the wind was pretty fierce, not the greatest sound. but they played the shit out of everything!

Going to Metallica/Pantera/Suicidal Tendencies  with my 13 yo nephew tonight in DC at Commanders stadium.   Was his bday present because his dad is a deadbeat.  I am 49 and figure I’ll be at about the average age.

uh oh they probably got more rain tonight than we did lol, but tomorrow night looks great! the venue is really special regardless of acoustics.

the free deluxe shuttle is a game changer...when we stopped for drop off multiple people exclaimed 'this is incredible!' and 'holy shit this is awesome!' 😆 take cash for a tip!

I saw Pavement on some late night show a couple of weeks ago -- probably Fallon -- and they sounded terrible.  I mean, even more terrible than usual.

I might go to that "metal" night.  It's not my genre of choice, but I bet it will be a great show.

I'm there tomorrow night for Lord Huron.  I think another member here is at the show tonight.

Lord Huron are fantastic. That will be a wonderful show at RR.

There's a deluxe shuttle now? Where does it originate?

Headed to CAAMP at The Bomb Factory on Sunday and then my wife bought tickets for us and her friend to see Perfume Genius at The Studio on Wednesday. We enjoyed them very much at Kilby Block Party. Three tickets for about $120 -- that's actually amazing these days.

it makes a loop from Lower South lot, picked us up at Lower North...nice, big white busses, take you allll the way to the top where the circular/disabled parking is! it is indeed awesome 😁 especially if you have GA tickets.

but be advised they only run to Jurassic lot after the show so plan your exit accordingly. you'd think 'that's cool, it's all downhill/downstairs anyway' but not all stairs are equal or easy 😜 i much prefer descending the uniform concrete stairs inside the venue than the dirt/wood risers from Upper North to Lower North parking...those are a challenge even headed down, especially if they are wet/muddy 🤨

Yep. My wife no longer drinks so we rented a car for the CAAMP show two summers ago and drove out there early to tailgate. (I got hammered so she wasn't super pleased with me trying to navigate our way back to downtown Denver after the show. I'd love to stay in Morrison some time though not sure how feasible that is.)

Curious about Boy Harsher—80s ish sounding techno. Have seen A Place to Bury Strangers a few times and they are fun, although I don’t know what lineup this is. And Mdou Moctar could also be interesting.

Caamp was outfuckingstanding at The Bomb Factory last night. They're so goddamn good. The venue was packed. Thankfully, we were upstairs as there were a lot of "kids" at the show.

Tomorrow night is Thievery Corporation and Beats Antique there.

Next Tuesday is Stick Figure in Denver.

June 20 is Tash Sultana at RR.

Good times should be had.

Any dallas people up for a free show in garland on fri night?

The Feel is playing at the garland town square. They’re consistently in my ig feed; they give me a black crowes vibe.

I know what you’re thinking. Garland? GTFO.

Putting on my sales hat. There’s a pizza place on the square that makes a damn good new haven style pizza. I came to know of the new haven style on a new haven surly thread and recommendations for a couple of places in the italian district of new haven. It slams and goes hard.

Pizza place on the garland square is Fortunate Son. I’ve been there several times and it’s legit.

Here’s my plan.

Fortunate Son for early-ish dinner at the bar. It gets packed cause it’s damn good.

The Feel on the square.

Never seen the band live but if they aren’t as advertised there’s a retro arcade and a guitar shop on the square. Might be time to demonstrate my stellar galaga skills and set an unobtainable high score.

Then… drive to austin on Sat morning-ish to catch black keys at moody amphitheater.

Fortunate Son is bad ass and that town square is super cool. It’s a long fucking way from my place though. The brewpub/bbq place is cool too (Intrinsic???).

I’m not a big fan of the Black Crowes but we dig that part of town and Fortunate Son is great.

I saw stick figure in austin (driving down from dallas) at some bar on 6th west of congress  in 2010 after smoke stack dropped. There were less than 20 people there.

That’s pretty much my only “I was into them before they got big” story.

Friday night is Puscifer, Primus, and A Perfect Circle at an outdoor amphitheater here in Vancouver, WA.

I like A Perfect Circle.  I get tired of Primus after 3 songs and I can't seem to get into Puscifer even though Maynard is fronting.  Maybe they put on a good live show.  Fingers crossed.

GF loves Maynard so we're going.  I think I'll take some edibles.

I got a poor quality recording of stick doing a cover of pink floyd’s wish you were here from that show.

I wonder if it was a message sent out to the ether in and around austin that he wishes more people were at the show that night. If it was, the universe responded and now 1000’s are at his shows.

Bun E Carlos top my list of rockers that we know nothing about that I guarantee there is some shit to know about.

Bun E. is super cool.  He regularly releases board recordings of old CT concerts, practice sessions, etc., on Facebook and Youtube.  Daxx has certainly gotten better -- substantially so, IMO.  But Bun E. had a certain swing or feel that can't be replicated.

Reminds me of a story from bare naked ladies. The band was trying to come up with their name so they decided to partner up with another band who they were playing a bill with.

The other band named themselves “Free beer”. They all thought a marquee with “free beer” and “bare naked ladies” would get people in the door.

Straight out the gate with Creeping Death. Fuck the haters Metallica still sends it.

Sitting next to people who have never seen them before. This girl wasn’t alive the first time I saw them.
