Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

Carthage RB KJ Edwards tells me he’s canceled his Texas OV following his trip to Texas A&M.

The Aggies have prioritized Edwards for the longest and loves the loyalty.

Texas is working to get that OV back.

I’ll have more later.

Oof... wasn't expecting that one.  Gotta put all of our eggs in the Crowell or Cooper basket now because we parted way with Osborne and Lattimer.

Wasn't it Osborne who parted ways with us?

Haven't followed the Latimer recruitment in a while and I see all 3 crystal balls are for....Wisconsin? That recruitment seemed to change in a hurry.

Osborne and Latimer were Choice's top two, and neither had much of a relationship with Scott (not did Scott seem particularly enthused in their direction).

Two RBs in this class seemed unlikely considering who we were recruiting and our current depth chart. Cooper has yet to lock in an OV so it appears we HAVE to go all in on Crowell to secure that commitment.

@closetojumping I know you mentioned aggy is throwing stupid offers.  Let's say this do the same with one of Turntine/Ojo as well.  How does Texas generally deal with someone like aggy moving the goalposts to get prospects?  I can't imagine Texas is going to sit back and go to their plan Bs for multiple guys at the top of their boards.  Do you see Texas matching these offers or moving on to another guy that will accept what they have allocated for the position from a NIL standpoint?  Basically, what is the general plan when aggy gets desperate and throws stupid offers for multiple guys?

June OV recruiting season is not for the faint of heart.

On the other hand, happy feeding season for all the recruiting energy vampires.

I said the other day it seemed like we weren’t swinging our D. Something seems weird this cycle.

I think it’s more an issue of other schools being desperate and doing illogical things as we work a more logical, less desperate plan. We will either have to adjust the plan or settle for what’s left. Or be patient until the season plays out and aggy and usc suck shit through straws.

Here we go again freaking out during the dog days of summer just like last year.

I do love the idea that the year we have a fucking Manning hype train playing QB and it's legal to pay players is the year we finally won't have a top class. That tracks.

yep - i remember how bleak things were around here right after the 4th of July last year.  We all saw how that turned out.

My initial thinking is that they might be using the majority of the House allocation for recruiting. That would be fucking nuts.

Benefits of have a mediocre roster is that it doesn’t cost you anything to retain it.

What if we sign someone else?

I haven't seen anybody else as good as crowell or Edwards. Those were definitely my to two.

We have the privilege of being able to stay patient in recruiting and that aligns with Sark’s strategy. Nobody should be worried in the least bit.

It's like the monkey brained dipshits aren't capable of memories past 12 months. You would think making fools out of themselves the last 3 summers would finally click some sort of dim bulb in their heads.

I can see why this country keeps making stupid choices over and over again.

Still has to translate to the field and every recruit that is promised a start means that development is null.  They have large holes to fill almost everywhere on both sides of the ball.  I don't see their roster, outside of rb, as better than last years, but their schedule is going to be more difficult.  They'll have to keep everybody that verbally commits and that's going to cost more if they don't have the W's to back it up.  If they don't win, then everybody is going to remind recruits daily just how bad the Aggie program is, with the history to prove it.

Gotta believe that we didn’t have room for him. Just look at the numbers.

What’s the saying? Always keep the numbers in the back of your mind?

Someone posted it on OTF but I forgot how few commitments we had at this point a year ago:

KJ Lacey

Lance Jackson

Elijah Barnes

James Simon

Coleman triplets

Emaree Winston

Brandon Brown (flipped to LSU beginning of July)

Similar to DT last cycle, we will need to pull something out of our ass at TE and RB but overall we seem to be in a much better place at this point in the recruiting calendar this year

I'm at the age where lots of my friends/teammates/frat brothers have kids that are being recruited.  There was a great deal of excitement around the House settlement in the past few months, but now most of them are just confused.  This means that folks (even those who are formally educated), are becoming more reliant on intermediaries to help decipher what promises are realizable in this landscape.   I'm trying to find the right words to say that this year, there is even more of an opportunity for schools or go betweens to overpromise.  The positive is that some of that will come out in the wash prior to "signing day", or whatever will be in its place this year.  Sucks as a fan of recruiting, but there will be plenty of decommits this year as people figure this stuff out.  We were talking about this at a track meet last weekend, and it was like fifth graders trying to explain the federal reserve.

This narrative that “we have to get X many position players every year” is garbage.

How many of our current RBs are gone after this year? None the last I checked. How many did we get last year? Two. Year before was also two, IIRC.

If we swing and miss this year, it makes it more likely to get a dude next year.

Y’all step away from the ledge.
