I like the guy, but his reasons for us being number 2 is...dumb. We threw shit on the field because the refs are morons. Do I condone it? Fuck no. Is that a reason to make us #2? Also no. His take was lazy.

The rest was pretty good. They definitely have aggie too low.

Does anyone care what other fans think about us?

This list basically just follows the SDS poll they put out before we even joined…but he’s less annoyed by aggy, Oklahoma, Auburn, and more annoyed by LSU, gamecocks, and ole miss.

I guess there’s a swath of people out there that go berserk when presented with horns down?  Because we see it at every sporting event against anyone. And in Texas you’ll see it at every inappropriate setting where an aggy knows you are a longhorn. Work, wedding, funeral, wherever.  It has zero significance anymore if it ever did.

aggy cares

That's why they lead the SEC in hospitality while giving opposing fans directions to Pyle Field and record self-serving and ridiculous "Welcome to the SEC" videos.

I think it's hilarious.

My favorite horn downs moments include:

Texas isn't even playing. Horns down is basically the OU hand sign. They sell a TON of merchandise licensed from UT. A&M fans are constantly using the horns down sign, too. I think it's great!

Teams we don't play on a regular basis. The horns down sign - started by OU fans in the 70s but it's grown because of television and various stupid controversies - is so universally recognized you'll see opponents like Michigan fans throw the horns down sign for the television cameras because it's such expected behavior. Why would anyone get upset about that? That's terrific!

Texas is crushing the opponent. It is so fun to see the horns down hand signal when we're beating the other team like a drum.

Any time Texas is mentioned, and the first reaction is to throw the horns down sign. Especially when it's done to me personally, but not just then.

My least favorite horns down moments are when Texas fans make a big deal out of it, like it's some kind of sacrosanct gesture being defiled by heathens. Give me a break. It IS sacrosanct to me, but I don't expect others to feel the same way about it. Rodney Terry in particular needed to STFU. He later apologized, which I'm glad for, but no coach or administrator should be making any kind of deal out of it. It's embarrassing. It's embarrassing when fans get offended, but at least they're not official representatives.

I guess if I was at a funeral and we were all singing the eyes and then some goober threw the horns down I'd have to kill him, but I wouldn't be angry when I did it. It's just something that would have to be done. But if Aggies or Sooners had a wedding cake with the horns down on it, I'd just laugh. Have at it! Give me a slice. Let me eat a piece of your obsession with us.

SEC Network hack Chris Doerring can go fuck himself. Smug ass bastard

What did he do now?

Also, I forgot about this one but last week I was driving and listening to Doering and Burns because XM 84 had some boring coach interview going.

At one point, Burns said that Texas didn't really impress him with their entry to the SEC last year.

Doering, to his credit, said "Really? Because I was expecting them to have to make major adjustments across most sports and they really outperformed what I was thinking and won the Director's Cup."

Burns replied "Just focus on football, they didn't impress."

Doering: "Well, they finished in the top 4 of the country and went further than anyone else in the SEC."

Burns: "You know what I'm trying to say."

Peter Burns is the absolute honkiest of the SEC honks. He's also not very intelligent and fails to fathom that. He's talks as though he's smarter than everyone else in every segment and he's constantly wrong and completely myopic. Doering is terrible, Burns is worse.

Lets never forget that Dusty Dvoracek once claimed a medical redshirt year for alcoholism, AFTER he was kicked off the team, for beating his best friend and roommate in the head with a baseball bat.

This prompted me to look up George O'Leary and then to deal with the subsequent shock that that resume padding motherfucker is still alive. 78. Wow. The fucking Irish, man.

First I've heard of him. Maybe he's miffed he couldn't make the cut at the flagship. An inferiority complex is consistent with trying to act like the smartest guy in the room.

Dvoracek has turned his life around and he's also not a completely biased, mouthbreathing sooner like so many of his ilk in the media. Biased when discussing OU? Sure. Biased when discussing Texas, unless it's Texas/OU Week? Not really. He's a great color guy for CFB and he does an excellent job on his show. He does his homework.

Does that make what Sydney pointed out irrelevant? Absolutely not. The guy did all of that shit and Stoops let him come back anyway.

I'm merely pointing out that multiple things can be true at the same time. He's not a pure okie honk like Ikard, Knowkah or Plank. Those guys cannot help themselves when discussing OU or Texas and they often get to have national platforms when doing so. I lend a lot more credence to Dvoracek's opinions on the sport, programs, players and coaches than I do the other guys. It's similar to the LSU honkers like Burns or Caroline Fenton versus Jacob Hester, except Hester didn't get shithammered and beat his best friend into a coma when he was younger.

The Solid Verbal podcast goes over the SEC.

They'll have two more shows where they do deep dives on each team. They also have a deep dive on Ohio State they put up a couple of days ago. To me they sound like writers who are passionate about college football covering the game...which is what they are. Ty Hildenbrandt is a Penn State grad and Notre Dame fan. Dan Rubenstein is a grad of Oregon. The podcast started in 2008, so many of you are likely already familiar with it. I only recently started listening to it.

They are literate. Listening to them feels like listening to fantasy football people analyze teams/players. It's not my favorite. I find myself getting bored by them at times. But I find myself jonesing for college football content right now. They try to do a good job in covering all of college football. They obviously watch a bunch of games. I feel like they refrain from click bait/hot take shenanigans the way so much of the rest of the internet gravitates towards, so that's my biggest endorsement.

Hildenbrandt's take on the Aggies is unintentionally hilarious in this show, but again, so much of what they do is a paper analysis. They don't shy away from that admission. I can't say I learn a whole lot from them, but I don't feel like my intelligence is insulted, either, which is what happens with most college football content. Anyway, here's the link:

I think they’re both pretty out in the open in their Big Ten homerism. Ty is for sure a Franklin skeptic but the guy is all Midwest. Notre Dame and to a lesser degree Penn State are his teams. I think Dan would prefer the old PAC 12 still be intact, but he’s all Big Ten now.

I think they’re more fair to the SEC than Cover 3 and that fucking idiot Pat Forde, but they know where their bread is buttered.

Regarding LSU:

1) Nussmeier did incur a knee injury at practice yesterday. Initially, reporters were lied to and then did their own lying, claiming nothing was wrong. Since, the answer has become "it's nothing serious". Chris Hummer reported that to Geaux247 earlier today. That's then followed with "he is likely to miss some practices to rest up", which sounds like it's not nothin'.

2) The front 7 has been blowing up play after play during media time. The OL looks so bad that one of the homers has published a story (spoilered below) claiming that some of it is learning curve with 4 new starters, 2 positions of which (RG & LG) the starters still are not known, but a lot of is LSU's newly dominant DL. Right. Nothing to see here, folks. Clemson doesn't have a very good DL for the opener, so LSU should be a-okay.

3) LSU has lost 5 straight openers, several in bizarre fashion including last year's loss to USC. They're about to lose a 6th straight with a shit OL and a gimpy QB.

What to make of LSU OL struggles, DL dominance early in fall camp

If you read most any practice report headlines from the past week on LSU, there's a general theme of the defensive line's dominance in camp so far.

There's no denying the truth behind that storyline. Whether it's pressure on the inside from pieces like Bernard Gooden and Dominick McKinley or if it's coming off the edge from Jack Pyburn, Gabriel Reliford, Patrick Payton, Jimari Butler or Harold Perkins, there's a consistency to how that side of the trenches is performing.

On the other hand, the offensive line is learning how to play as one. While there's a competition going on at both guard spots, there has been a consistency with which LSU has rolled out its first five up front. The lineup of Tyree Adams, DJ Chester, Braelin Moore, Josh Thompson and Weston Davis has been the popular five man grouping in most 11v11 work.

The question many want an answer to as these practice reports come out is how much of it is the signs of a potentially elite defensive line vs a first-year offensive line still trying to find its footing. The short answer now is it's probably a little bit of both.

The defensive line has the chance to be really special. The havoc that group is creating right now has been a perfect blend of inside-out pressure and chaos off the edge. Gooden has been right at the center of that, as has McKinley in recent practices. The pair had multiple tackles for loss during Tuesday's media session and are setting up the players behind them like the Weeks brothers and Perkins for greater success as well.

"That's a great thing. When you have guys that are creating issues from the inside out of the pocket, instead of just rushing off the edge, where you can get a hand on them and widen it and step up. We're getting our best success inside out," Kelly said.

On the other end, LSU's offensive line is clearly still learning how to be most effective as a unit. So much of the cohesion that an offense has to operate under to have success starts up front with that group. LSU has some experienced vets, whether it's Moore and Thompson or Chester who started 13 games for the Tigers last year.

Adams and Davis will be first time starters in the SEC, though both do have some playing time under their belts. It's interesting that the pressure from the defensive line has arguably been most consistent from within. While the tackle spots have been settled, LSU is giving first team opportunities at both guard spots to Paul Mubenga on the left side and Coen Echols on the right side.

"This is evaluating what are the things on our football team that we need to get better at individually, collectively, as a unit," Kelly said.

"We have some guys that were put in the moment and made a lot of mistakes. So it allows us to take a step back. Some guys need to continue to grow mentally. There's not a physical problem out here. This is much more about technical and mental, and it allows me to evaluate that if you create that situation."

LSU's 11v11 playcalling on Tuesday was heavily skewed towards the run game, which could very well have been by design. Kelly did say LSU is installing different movements for the offensive line on those running plays and there's still more installation to come in that regard. That could be one contributing factor to why the offensive line could be a beat slow at the current moment.

Whether it's been in the spring or player run practices, these units have been going head-to-head with one another for seven months. There's probably a pretty good understanding on both sides of the ball of how the other operates.

Bottom line is that LSU's offensive line is giving up way too much. Players aren't whiffing on blocks as much as they're being driven back. Even the slightest bit of indecisiveness can lose a rep. An effective o-line is one that has no weak links in the chain on a given play. There needs to be greater movement from that group as a whole in terms of working together to push back on the aggression and pressure that LSU's defensive line is creating.

The time will soon come when the offensive line must show it can play as one. If many of the same issues are persisting at this rate two weeks from now, a different conversation might be had. LSU is three and a half weeks away from taking the field against Clemson and the o-lines readiness for that matchup is the biggest question this team will have to face from now until kickoff.
