I have not been following the details of this case at all, other than the general understanding of it.  Regarding Trump‘s shot on appeal, assuming he gets a bond, does anyone know if the amount of money the judge awarded help or hurt?

I guess what I’m asking is if anyone has an idea if the award is great enough that this raises an appeal issue that would not have been there if the judge had awarded half of that? Or was it addressed within the 95 pages describing Trump‘s dishonest ass-Hattery and so mitigated any impression of unfairness

Here's where I think the biggest problem may lie.  In calculating the unjust enrichment by each loan, he took the difference between the rates offered on non-recourse loans versus the personally guaranteed loans he obtained.  See p. 81 on.

There are two problems I can see with that.  One is what rate might they have offered had the SFCs been accurate on a personally guaranteed loan (that is a more conservative way to analyze it).  The second is all of the loans closed outside of limitations, so it would seem to have properly been the difference between what would have happened if his SFCs, submitted on an annual basis on the loans, had been accurate?

Still has to front the value + 10% in order to make the appeal in NY state.

Again, no he doesn't.  Just to keep the state from executing on the judgment.  The bond is not a prerequisite for appeal.

How so?  He can't pardon himself for state offenses.  Georgia doesn't have pardons, except after completion of a sentence.

I meant that he'd die in office and never be tried.

Someone better get the NYTimes to print a correction, then:

Mr. Trump will appeal the financial penalty but will have to either come up with the money or secure a bond within 30 days. The ruling will not render him bankrupt, because most of his wealth is in real estate, which altogether is worth far more than the penalty.

I mean. Granted, this is the same rag that called Tom Suozzi's 7.5-point win in a heavily Republican district "exceedingly close," so maybe we just assume the NYTimes is full of shit in general.

That’s not how that works. They don’t want to use their own money

Serious question: if the gofundme isn’t a scam (big if, I know), how would all those contributions be considered under campaign finance law?  How is this different than a PAC giving him money? Can he even accept it?

Interesting question, I have no idea as to the answer.  I do wonder if they are direct donations/solicitations wouldn't that fall under income, and thus be subject to taxation?

Thanks. I guess I just figured why would they seize an asset that they got nothing out of and no one would really buy at auction. Wouldn’t the lien holders effectively be able to offer their lien amounts as the opening bid and if no outside group came they would pay themselves the money they are already owed and have the building with the state getting nothing?

That's how it works on most home foreclosures.  The mortgage lender is the only bidder.

The other thing is, if you have a judgment debtor with money, but it's "hidden," the threat of losing the property can bring them to the table right quick.

So there is no way for Trump and co to wriggle their way out of this one? the State of NY has all they need to proceed if the appeal window closes and/or Trump doesn't pony up escrow for appeal?

Again, Trump does not need to post a bond to appeal the judgment, only to stay execution of the judgment.  For a variety of reasons, most plaintiffs don't want to execute a judgment with an appeal pending, if there's any merit to it at all.

Trump boasts so much about his brand.  It seems like it would be taking a pretty good beating about now.  How does that affect his overall financial picture?   Will a reduction in the valuation of his brand be reflected in the value of his assets which then makes whatever he still holds worldwide seem to be a riskier investment for those who leant him money for things like the golf course in scotland, etc?  Can those lenders now revisit those loans and renegotiate due to the fallout here?

It's begun:

A Crooked New York State Judge, working with a totally Corrupt Attorney General who ran on the basis of “I will get Trump,” before knowing anything about me or my company, has just fined me $355 Million based on nothing other than having built a GREAT COMPANY. ELECTION INTERFERENCE. WITCH HUNT (more to follow!).

The Justice System in New York State, and America as a whole, is under assault by partisan, deluded, biased Judges and Prosecutors. Racist, Corrupt A.G. Tish James has been obsessed with “Getting Trump” for years, and used Crooked New York State Judge Engoron to get an illegal, unAmerican judgment against me, my family, and my tremendous business. I helped New York City during its worst of times, and now, while it is overrun with Violent Biden Migrant Crime, the Radicals are doing all they can to kick me out…..

Page 2: This “decision” is a Complete and Total SHAM. There were No Victims, No Damages, No Complaints. Only satisfied Banks and Insurance Companies (which made a ton of money), GREAT Financial Statements, that didn’t even include the most valuable Asset - The TRUMP Brand, IRONCLAD Disclaimers (Buyer Beware, and Do your Own Due Diligence), and amazing Properties all over the World. All the other side had was a ridiculous $18 million valuation of magnificent Mar-a-Lago, an unConstitutional Gag Order, a Consumer Fraud Statute never before used for this purpose, No Jury allowed, and a refusal to send this disgusting charade to the Commercial Division, where it would have been put to a deserving end…

Page 3: This “case” is OVER ever since the Appellate Division ended it on Statute of Limitations, also letting my daughter Ivanka out of this Witch Hunt. The Democrat Club-controlled Judge Engoron has already been reversed four times on this case, a shameful record, and he will be reversed again. We cannot let injustice stand, and will fight Crooked Joe Biden’s weaponized persecution at every step. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Glad to see he addressed this prior to posting about the case:

The Fake News used Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) to create the picture on the top left. These are despicable people, but everyone knows that. The other pictures are me hitting Golf balls today to show the difference. Sadly, in our Country, Fake News is all you get!

This is the 2nd time in recent weeks that Trump has brought up AI as something used to alter footage of him.  This tells me that A) the pee tape is real and B) it’s about to surface.

Be rude and insulting to smart women at your peril.

I'd just like to point out, that this evening, no matter who you are, no matter how bad of financial decisions you may have made, no matter how much debt you may have accrued, there is an outstanding chance that you have more money than Donald Trump.  To top it off, most people don't have a felony indictment hanging over their head either, let alone 91 of them.

In a world full of shitty news on a near constant basis, sometimes we get nice things.

I'll provide a real world example. Rimbo needs to believe Trump is going lose the way Rimbo needed to believe that Greg Davis was a good offensive coordinator becuase STATS! and that Charlie Strong was a great coach at Texas...right until he fucking wasn't. He then he came to see the inherent dangers and patterns everyone had been telling him about for years. This is how he behaves. I've grown to like the guy as a poster from someone I used to get into it with on what felt like a daily basis, but some of those blind spots continue to exist, as they do in all of us, becuase we're human and actual change is pretty fucking hard.

Greg Davis was a good OC at Texas.

Do not make me Football this board.
