I start honking if I see someone texting while driving.

Saw some dude opposite me in an intersection yesterday in a flower delivery mini-van..  Looked like a 6-7 YO boy standing up between the seats, possibly at the front of the cargo area.

I guess it was "take your kid to work day..."   and kill them.

People are fucking negligent as hell in their driving/ passenger/ trailer responsibilities.  Makes me feel like Mack Brown on the road.

I feel like every time there's a "sticky" driver that won't let you pass them, or they'll hang in your blind spot, it's someone on their phone. That sort of shit drives me up the wall and makes traffic leaps and bounds worse, and causes those wonder 2 to 4 wide rolling roadblocks that really fuck a highway

It's have definitely gotten worse since COVID, you'd think cops would be excited for the opportunity to actually serve their communities by policing that shit more

Indeed.  The speed limit in our neighborhood is 20mph 24/7.  The main entrance to the subdivision is a 4-lane blvd., with a lot of trees and bushes in the 20-foot-wide median that runs by an elementary school.  Again 20 mph at all times.

I see cars and passenger trucks pulled over all the time for speeding.  However, there are a ton of new residential developments going on all around us.  The construction crews/heavy equipment like to use the main street as a cut-through to the new developments.  These motherfuckers are constantly doing 40mph+ down the main street.  I've never seen a cop pull over any of them.  It's like they've struck up some deal w/ the contractors. Being that it's summer, there are kids all over the hood.  It's a disaster waiting to happen.

I drop it into neutral and gun the engine if one of these fucksticks is in the front yard when I drive by.  I don’t speed in residential neighborhoods, but fuck the people who feel the need to put a stupid fucking sign like that in their yard.

We have teenagers that drive like assholes through the neighborhood.  Then on the other end of the spectrum some old fuck was coming around the corner and drove up and OVER a small tree recently planted in my neighbors yard.  Base of the tree was maybe as round as a softball, so not that insignificant.  I still don't know how it exactly happened.  He told the neighbor he mistook the gas/break pedals.....which is laughable.

Previous neighbor across the street would come home for lunch on occasion, in his fedex box truck. Busted off my mailbox. He rang the bell, apologized profusely, and said he’d make it right.

Came home that evening with a new post and box. Just like what was there. Put it in, let me know, and asked if we were square.

I don’t think he was texting though. But fits the mailbox part I guess.

Got behind someone the other day on Old Stagecoach.  They were poking a long with a slow weave.  I tried to go around them and they drifted all the way over into the other lane in front of me as I was trying to pass.  So, I was stuck.  I then watched them approach this blind corner and straddle the double yellow.  I practically came to a stop anticipating a head on collision.  Fortunately, none happened.  Erratic speed and more weaving as we approached the red light.  Could have been drunk but it was in the morning, which still could mean they are drunk but god dammit... texters that get caught driving should have their phones and cars seized on the fucking spot.  It's not a right to own a car or a phone you dumb fucks.

Managing Partner at my firm was famous for smoking, drinking, talking on the phone, and doing a manual transmission in his truck, all at the same time.  And he only had two arms and hands.

One of my cousins is married to a DPS trooper.  He's about to retire but he drove one of the 5.0 Mustangs when they first got them. My brother went on a ride along with him and they were sitting on I35 eating snacks in the middle of the night clocking cars.  Dude would pretty much ignore anyone going less than 20 over the limit because he liked to chase the real speeders.  Guy goes by going over a hundred and next thing my bro knows he's stuck to his seat as they scream out of the median.  Trooper is eating M&Ms with his big gulp between his legs, talking on the radio, slinging dirt while shifting gears and turning on the lights/siren.  Dude was having the time of his life and my brother was having a heart attack at the tender age of 16.

Related story.  DPS Cousin-in-Law was in a high speed chase with four or five other various cops and they were debating how to get the guy to stop so CIL says he'll pit the guy.  They are all flying down I-35 at speeds approaching 120 mph and sure enough he pits the guy and they both lose control.  Both end up in the median in a cloud of dust and CIL realizes his crotch is soaking wet.  He's sitting there thinking "Did I wet my pants?"  Luckily he just squeezed his Big Gulp all over his pants.

I see we have 2 pages of perfect, holier than thou people, so I'll be the first to admit this is a problem for me and one that I'm actively working on. Like many of you, I have a job that provides me with too much to do and too little time to do it, so sometimes in an effort to be helpful and involved (e.g. picking up kids from school, taking one to get a haircut or the gym or get some food, whatever) I will find myself on my cell while driving.

It starts with just typing out texts at a red light.

Then it goes to where you can respond to slack messages while driving as long as the roads aren't crowded.

Full blown addiction is typing out full bodied emails, in gridlock or on the highway doing 70, and realizing you've only been peripherally paying attention.

The good news is twofold: I am aware of my problem (and actively working on it) and I have shame about it. My kids have been deputized to yell at me from the back if I do anything on my phone-- and they love to do it. So that's fun for us all. I've even started pulling over to gas stations or empty parking lots to respond to emails/texts that are urgent instead of using the phone and driving.

Now talking on the phone and driving, I can't get rid of that. And my kids have grown up the last decade and a half being commuted with the phone on speaker and on so many conference calls around finance/deal-building and deal-making, legal calls, and internal calls about deal flow that I joke they should be grateful they are getting a pre-MBA.

Not many are being holier than though.  If you own a phone and have a driver's license, you have used your phone while driving.  Period.  I fully admit that at stoplights, I use it.  I may glance sometimes stuck in dead-stop gridlock.  But never while moving.  I don't even take calls unless it's the wife or we're on open interstate highway on speaker.  Never in town.  Because towns have these things called parking lots and intersecting streets where you can easily pull over to stop and use the phone/take the call.

My judgement does arise from people who are leaving/entering our neighborhood (we are a quiet series of dead-ends and cul-de-sacs where the children play and ride bikes out front much of the time because of little vehicular traffic).  And they're looking down at their phone.  You're gonna be home in 60 seconds, it can fucking wait until then.  Or you just left your house where you had ample time and wi-fi to do whatever the fuck it is you're doing.  But what took my rage up to 11 this year was doing crosswalk duty at my daughter's school.  At least 1/3 to 1/2 of the cars drop the kid, and the parents must think "I'd never text with the kids in the car, but they're off to class", and immediately after the door shuts, their eyes look down and one hand comes off the steering wheel, as the car starts moving with kids actively crossing on foot.  I didn't know people did that kinda shit with kids all around.  I'm making a "This is not the Cell Phone Lot" sign for next year.  Somebody will fight me.  I don't give a shit.  At 20 or 10 or even 5mph, a fucking Suburban would destroy a fucking kindergartner......kid'd be eating lunch through a straw the rest of the semester.

It isn't the contractors in my neighborhood that are the problem.  It is the residents from other streets, guests, or assholes just driving through that blaze down the street.    It runs the gambit from poors to well-off, but some of the most callous drivers are older women in SUVs.

I read that in the voice of a guy coming out of a traumatic panic attack like, "You don't know the things I saw on nextdoor out there..."

Why has pornhub not come up with a "Nextdoor: After Dark" channel yet?  Where some Karen comes over to start bitching to the neighbor about something and she ends up getting double-stuffed by the two brothers that were having a party there?

Worse than being intoxicated.  Driving while distracted significantly worse than driving under the influence.

I drive a larger truck, so I'm often looking down into people's cars.....I lose my shit every time I see this dangerous nonsense.

So true, and thanks to our country's weird relationship with alcohol, it will never be penalized more significantly than DUI.

A buddy of mine used to own a couple of FedEx routes.  Apparently, there are serious fines from FedEx if you back into a mailbox.  I don't know the details, but he didn't want to run it through FedEx.

Been retired more than a decade, but at my mega corp it was against safety rules to drive and operate a phone while on company business.  This included the parking garage,  rental car on business driving, etc.  Firmly enforced via various mechanisms.
The motivation was phone use was a documented leading cause of MVA’s, and MVA’s were our leading incident by frequency.

Not at all holier than thou.  A little practice, done.  Easier than most of life’s rationally chosen obligations.
