Ou thought they were going to trot Mateer out their like Willis Reed, kick our ass on their way to this magical Heisman season. Instead they found out they aren't any good.

The best part is the aggy conspiracy that we had him get surgery to keep him out of the game, only for him to play. I wonder if we got a refund for paying him off?

Neither will I. But I can't wait for the "we lost to LSU, Bama, Tennessee, and Missouri and we're still breathing. I love it here" post

I know it don't matter shit but why did Ven keep in Mateer after we kicked the last field goal. That game was over. All he was doing was needlessly risking further injury to Mateer. If I were his parents, I'd be fucking pissed.

I think they lose to Mizzou and Bama. Big.

Tennessee and LSU are paper tigers.

Ole Miss is the big pivot game.

I understand your sentiment, OU was ALSO a paper tiger waiting to be crumbled. Michigan as it turns out is mid, Underwood has a lot of growth to undertake. Their other P4 win was vs Auburn a team presently 0-3 in the SEC and they needed a blown call to get by said team.

FootballScoop writer on blOU possible gameplan vs Texas...

Speaking of the actual game. After OU survived Auburn on Sept. 20 I joked that Venables would spend the next three weeks concocting a game plan to confuse and harass Arch Manning that was so diabolical it could be classified as an act of terrorism. And Venables may very well do that, but I no longer view that as necessary.

If you're Oklahoma, I think you play this game as vanilla as vanilla gets. OU leads the nation in TFLs and sacks per game. They're first on third down. Texas is 116th on third down, and Florida ran through their offensive line like 4-day-old chili. Sark and/or Arch have been unwilling and/or unable to engage in the short and intermediate passing game, a hallmark of the Ewers offense.

Play Cover 3, let your defensive tackles obliterate the interior of the Texas O-line, wait for the Longhorns to give the ball back to you by punt or turnover, and win the game 24-10.

Despite what that fuckwit Herbstreit was saying, OU, their coaches, their medical staff, and their school admin would put a player back on the field in nearly any state short of near death or paralysis if that player gave them a chance to beat Texas.

I liked the plays where Mateer would abandon the pocket, look downfield, and drift back into the pocket. It was like watching a car wreck in slow motion.

Very obvious all the work Arbuckle has done with Mateer regarding decision making, route progression, footwork,  and situational awareness.

Very obviously those two are playing 4D chess while getting bludgeoned with a claw hammer.

Not sure which is crazier when you look at the Sooners schedule.

That the idea that they were an elite defense was built on their ability to "contain" the Illinois State, Kent State, Temple, Michigan, and Auburn  offenses coming into the Cotton Bowl OR their next 6 games are @ South Carolina, Ole Miss, @ Tennessee, @ Bama (who will be pissed about last year),  Missouri, and LSU.

At one point, Simmons was triple teamed and still got a sack because Mateer left an absolutely clean pocket.

Anyone can complete a pass from a clean pocket, it takes someone incredibly special to create magic running into the chaos of a pass rush.

Some top notch Sooner tears in here:

image.thumb.png.f3e85c230b4a23bf240d7ae716a9260d.png

Some highlights:

- Bitched and cried about the clock management at the end of first half for a solid 30 minutes.

- Fans are blaming one of their reporters for leaking practice reports which forced OU to have limited practices indoors for secrecy. Top notch psychopaths north of the Red River.

- They think Arbuckle is a future NFL HC and Mateer is a NFL starter. I was just stunned when they said this aloud.

- Wisely didn’t bitch about the punt return. They did after all beat Auburn via an illegal play.

- They want everybody gone on offense except for Arbuckle. Revoking Bedenbaugh and Murray’s lifetime appointments would be hilarious.

- The Ott playing time mystery continues.  All they’ll say is he isn’t practicing up to Skeletor’s standards.

- Genuinely apocalyptic about the season. They all think they’ll lose to South Carolina next week.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here for a second. Ou is a shit-fest, they just are. Once Mateer faced quality defense, he got the shock collar. However, we dd see them beat Alabama last year convincingly, and I don't give a shit if it were Jalen Milroe or not, they had Jackson fucking Arnold, perennial loser, and still beat their asses. They can both beat and lose to Ole Miss simply because of Venebals scheming up something or Mateer is just barely serviceable, while also beating or losing to USCe because of LaNorris Sellers, yet not much around him. I think they beat USCe and lose to Ole Miss, imo. They have it inverted because, well, they're morons.

The way yesterday went is exactly why I said it would be absolutely idiotic to play Mateer under the circumstances.  Thankfully they have a head coach who is indeed that idiotic.  If yesterday plays out exactly the same with Hawkins, they largely would have gotten a free pass from the national media, and while their own fans would still be pissed, they would be confident all could be salvaged once Mateer is back.  Instead, Venables back squarely on the hot seat with his fan base and season could easily crater from here.   Love it.

So let’s say Venables pushes the restart button again after the season. That’s 2 offensive reboots since 2022.

Even to the unbiased observer, that’s not good. I’m starting to believe the Nagy bullshit extended Venables at least 2 more seasons.

The Sooners Illustrated honks never once even suggested that Venables was in trouble.

I’m here for it.

Good call. But wait I don’t think Arch threw 3 picks (should’ve been 5) vs them. He only threw 1. Arch also knows how to throw a TD (1 vs tOSU, 1 vs OU).

I still cannot believe OU was not more aggressive with stunts, blitzes, and crazy pre snap fake outs.

His defensive game plan against us last year was much much better than whatever he aimed to do yesterday.

Also being the hunter vs the hunted is a difficult transition.  It's much easier to be hunting a higher ranked/superior opponent.  I think I heard Sark mentioned being the hunter post game, but I was lit so who knows.

OU didn't look so hot as it was, then that absolutely full retard end of the half crushed any momentum.  Anytime I see a half end that bad I will take the other team, just mad I was a pussy and only put a little on UT.  Reminded me of when Bag O Dicks failed to score a TD against UF in the title game end of half.  It was a feeling of doom.

Venables likely THE top defensive mind in the game but he can't be coordinator and be HC.  Average HC at best.  I think Sark is similar at UT but likely better overall as the head man but not the top offensive mind in the game as OC.  Either way, go Indiana...

If by "likely" you mean no fucking chance, I agree. Its no longer the stoops glory days. Here's how OU compares to Texas in PPG against

2022-23: Texas 21st, OU 90th

2023-24: Texas 12th, OU 41st

2024-25: Texas 2nd, OU 27th

2025 to date: Texas 2nd, OU 3rd

Texas average 9.25, OU average 40.25

Kwiatkowski's been parking his nuts on Vegetable's chin pretty regularly since Brent returned to Norman.

I told this board and my date's father that it would be absolutely idiotic if they played him and to just roll with Hawkins, the outcome would be the same. Surprisingly, he agreed with me. Makes me wonder if he'll chip in on the buyout.

True.  But stealing signals in that sense is a part of the game.  Stealing like recording / UM is what’s cracked down on.  Every head coach will agree that you try to figure out teams signals.  Not surprised Sark was smart enough to change it all up.
Hell, looking at the two games leading up to this, UT seemed a lot more prepared for OU sadly.

Another gem:

- They just contradict their own statements over and over again. They really need a producer or some kind of editing. “OU gave this game away.” A few minutes later, “Arch beat us.” “This is the best team Venables has had, and the worst team that Sark has had.” What the actual fuck? They forget about the 2021 team?

Practically speaking, why is it ok to steal signals while watching game film but not ok to send a scout to steal the same signals live? You can zoom in on the coaches on the game film.  Personally, I think stealing signs is part of the game, but I’ve never understood the self-righteous position OU has always taken when comparing themselves to the UM “scandal.”

It’s not just OU.  Everyone tries to take signals looking at the other sideline.  Filming anything live or otherwise is what’s cheating per rules of engagement in CFB.  As to why?  No idea.  I guess in MLB the comparison is it’s fine to catch a pitcher tipping pitches etc but filming shit like the Astros is over the line.

It’s not a hill I’ll die on.  I don’t care that much about OU or any sport to lose my mind arguing.  Probably why I’m ok being here even when UT is dominating like the last few years.  It’s fun, win or lose…I’m entertained.  Cheers

Did you listen they say Arch beat the defense with 5 to 6 great plays by him. They also say that Texas has a better football program with better players and better coaches. Like us they start rattling of mistakes they made but unlike aggy that takes a beat down a says they were one play away from winning they go into being critical of what they are doing wrong.

I made a comment on the game thread about Arbuckle and the sudden media love he was getting and he’d be shown on camera as much as CBS shows Taylor Swift when the Chiefs are on CBS.  Funny they started the game during OU’s first drive which resulted in a FG showing Arbuckle several times with Herbie slobbering all over him.   But once their offense started going southward and Mateer collapsed under pressure, I don’t think I saw one more camera take of Arbuckle for the rest of the game.

This was a full hour of Ikard tearing apart the dumb decisions made by everyone on the offense, up to and including Venables' game management.  I think the most common phrase was "Why that is, I'm not sure."

I think Burnt was in a damed if you do, damed if you don’t situation.   Their fanbase was pretty much locked at this time last week when social media and the OU Insiders started momentum train rolling that Mateer would be ready to go on Saturday.   Of course Mateer helped feed the narrative too.;  Had Burnt benched him after being cleared to play and they lose  the hot seat temp would’ve been upped several degrees.

It’s possible Burnt and his Defenive staff thought the Texas D lost a lot of its edge from the Ohio State game due to the play against Florida and though Mateer could withstand the Texas D.

Glad you asked.

It’s because smaller, poorer schools that once didn’t have the resources to fly scouts around the country wouldn’t be at a disadvantage. That’s it. But now, most power-conference schools have the resources. At least they did prior to NIL.
