I find the Horns down thing somewhat pleasing/amusing, I dunno. For some reason when people do it, I chuckle. I kinda want to pat them on the head and mess up their hair or something.

Also- I too have never donated money to OU football. Mostly because I graduated from Texas and I hate the entire state of OK and Bob stoops still gobbles cock.

Oklahoma issues extensions, raises to Brent Venables's coaching staff

New play-caller Seth Littrell will earn about half as much as Jeff Lebby was set to make, and Brent Venables spread the savings out amongst the staff.

ZACH BARNETT          11 MINUTES AGO

Following a successful Year 2 in which they increased the club's win total from six to 10, the Oklahoma Board of Regents approved extensions and raises to Brent Venables's returning assistant coaches.

The Sooners will replace both coordinators from 2023 to 2024. Offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby landed the head coaching job at Mississippi State, and defensive coordinator Ted Roof was let go.

Roof was replaced with Jacksonville State defensive coordinator, and longtime Venables protege, Zac Alley. His contract has yet to be presented to the board.

Venables replaced Lebby with a pair of internal promotions. Former North Texas head coach Seth Littrell was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after one season as an analyst. Littrell, who will be the play caller, signed a 3-year contract starting at $1.1 million with $50,000 annual raises (all info via the Tulsa World's Eric Bailey.)

Co-offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley also netted a massive raise. He's under contract for three years, with compensation starting at $900,000 with $25,000 annual raises. (He made $575,000 previously.)

The remainder of the staff breaks out as follows:

-- RBs coach DeMarco Murray: 2-year deal at $575,000 per ($75,000 raise)
-- WRs coach Emmett Jones: 2-year deal at $644,000 per ($94,000 raise)
-- O-line coach Bill Bedenbaugh: 2-year deal at $870,000 per ($50,000 raise)
-- Co-DC/DTs coach Todd Bates: 3-year deal at $700,000 per ($35,000 raise)
-- DEs coach Miguel Chavis: 2-year deal at $650,000 per ($50,000 raise)
-- Safeties coach Brandon Hall: 2-year deal at $500,000 per ($150,000 raise)
-- CBs coach Jay Valai: 2-year deal at $750,000 per ($50,000 raise)

Lebby was set to make $2 million had he returned to Oklahoma in 2024 and Roof $1.2 million, so Venables is still operating at a $1.2 million budget surplus even after all the raises. I'd bet on Alley's contract being a 3-year deal with a salary somewhere in the low $1 million range.

Their record made a big jump. 6 wins to ten. Their schedule was easier. Their best win was Texas. Their second best win was SMU. Their third best win…Iowa State?

They prioritized beating Texas and I guess that worked out for them. Texas prioritized beating Alabama, and that worked out for us.

Bill Haisten: First SEC adjustment for OU fans – lowered national expectations

Before most of the last 25 seasons, the perception of the OU football team was extremely positive.

In the majority of those years, the Sooners were favored to capture the Big 12 title. In 14 of those years, OU did win the Big 12 title.

Usually, OU was on everyone’s short list of predicted national contenders.

Because there is a year-round appetite for football content, there already is an abundance of 2024 Southeastern Conference prognostication. For OU fans, the first adjustment to the Big 12-SEC transition would be a look at February expectations and seeing the Sooners picked to finish seventh.

There no longer is an SEC West-East division format. There is a 16-team league, and the Dec. 7 championship game in Atlanta matches the top two teams in the final regular-season standings.

Released one week before the retirement of Nick Saban, and several weeks before any FBS programs roll into spring practice, Athlon’s SEC 2024 predictions had Georgia at No. 1 in the SEC, with Alabama at No. 2, Texas at No. 3 – and OU at No. 7.

The Athletic has LSU finishing with a regular-season record of 12-0, with Georgia and Texas at 11-1, Alabama and LSU at 10-2 – and OU at 7-5, with losses to the Longhorns, Ole Miss, Missouri, Alabama and LSU.

Also different in 2024: the retooled College Football Playoff, expanded from four teams to 12. Last week, Oklahoma native Brett McMurphy of the Action Network formulated a 12-team bracket.

His top four seeds: Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State and Big 12 rookie Utah. Seeded fifth is SEC rookie Texas, followed by Oregon, Notre Dame, Missouri, Penn State, Alabama, Michigan and Boise State.

In the McMurphy semifinals, Georgia beats Texas while Ohio State eliminates Oregon.

McMurphy didn’t stop at the CFP; he crafted projections for all bowl games, and it’s on that list where you’ll find OU (matched with Iowa in the ReliaQuest Bowl at Tampa, Florida) and Oklahoma State (matched with Kentucky in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl).

McMurphy shared with the Tulsa World an emailed explanation of what he expects from the 2024 Sooners: “I think OU ends up with less than eight wins. The schedule is brutal. Hello, SEC! Based on our Action Network power ratings, OU actually ranks 19th nationally, but we’re projecting OU to be an underdog in six games: at Auburn, against Texas, at Ole Miss, at Missouri, against Alabama and at LSU.

“It doesn’t mean OU will lose all six of those games, but you probably have to go back to the John Blake days for the last time OU was an underdog in six regular-season games. Of course, those lines could change during the season based on the success or lack of success of OU or its opponents.”

In six of the seven years since Bob Stoops retired, Las Vegas oddsmakers set OU’s preseason over/under win total at no fewer than 9.5 wins. In 2019 and 2020, it was 10.5. In 2021, it was 11.

Before Brent Venables’ first season in 2022, the Sooners’ win total was 8.5.

The FanDuel Sportsbook’s current over/under win total for the 2024 Sooners: 7.5.

FanDuel has Georgia as the national championship favorite, with Ohio State as the second favorite and Texas the third. At plus-6,000, OU is on the same long-shot line as Utah, Miami (Florida) and Kansas State. At those odds, if you were to bet $100 on the Sooners to win it all, you would net $6,000.

That was a rant, for sure. The funny part- he calls back to 2000 Sooner teams, and a 2001 game. We Texas fans know that the kids today really don’t care about 2005. They sure as hell don’t care about 2000.

You just gotta love the Strawman arguments and circular reasoning.

”Media says Texas is back every year”

They don’t. Most of the media headlines are “is this the year Texas is back” or something to that effect. blOU (rightfully so) was picked to win the Big 12 damn near every year in the 2010s.

”I was told Arch was the greatest QB ever”

Literally nobody said this lol. Most people were saying he’s overrated and only given that ranking because of his last name.

blOU fans still haven’t realized that Vegetables is a fraud and watching them call for his head after they struggle to get to 7 wins will be glorious

They are really counting on Jackson Arnold to be great, and to be great quick. He’s a second year player, and they won’t be surprised if he’s Johnny Manziel’s level. That seems optimistic to me. (Note- Manziel had a terrific OL and Mike Evans helping him).

If they do go 10-2, yes, they will be in the playoffs. 9-3 might get them there.

Don't know a better place to put this, but fuck OU. However, hell of a run ladies.

Oklahoma's NCAA Division 1-record 71-game winning streak ended Sunday, as visiting Louisiana pulled off a 7-5 upset of the nation's No. 1-ranked team in front of 4,450 fans at Love's Field in Norman.

The game went to extra innings after the Sooners rallied to tie the Ragin' Cajuns with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Louisiana broke the 4-4 deadlock in the eighth, with pinch hitter Samantha Graeter (RBI single) and Sam Roe (two RBIs) coming up big at the plate.

For whatever reason, OU has decided to dominate softball. That’s fine, I guess; I’m happy that Texas dominates  girls volleyball. It’s a funner sport to watch.
I can’t imagine ever saying, “There’s an important softball game on. I want to watch”. (Near the same with girls basketball)

Oklahoma reportedly adding a veteran offensive coordinator to support staff

Johns has held a coordinator title with six different FBS programs.

DOUG SAMUELS        5 HOURS AGO

Kevin Johns is a veteran play caller with stops at a number of FBS programs.  According to a report today, Johns is set to join the staff of Brent Venables at Oklahoma in a support staff role.

247 shares that Johns, who spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Duke under Mike Elko, is joining the Sooners as an offensive analyst.

He has previous calls with a coordinator title at Northwestern, Indiana, Western Michigan, Texas Tech, and Memphis.

Outside of his time at Northwestern and Duke,  Johns was brought into each of those roles under offensive-minded head coaches from Kevin Wilson (Indiana), to Tim Lester (WMU), Kliff Kingsbury (Texas Tech), and Mike Norvell (Memphis).

In Norman, he steps into an offensive staff room now led by Seth Littrell, who was promoted from an analyst role to offensive coordinator following the departure of Jeff Lebby to become the head coach at Mississippi State.

I guess?  Oddly softball ratings smash volleyball.  Not that the masses are correct.  But it’s an opinion and softball blows away women’s volleyball as far as most people’s opinion.

‘The volleyball championship match between Kentucky and Texas averaged 696,000 viewers, up 28% from 2019.’

‘The average number of viewers for the three championship final games between Oklahoma and Florida State was a record 1,840,000, up 15% over 2019. The average for the 17-game WCWS was 1,203,000, up 10% over 2019 and numbers comparable to those from the men's College World Series in 2019.’
