So the qb literally having one of the slowest release times in all of college football has nothing to do with it?  Some of y’all need to wake up to reality.  He’s been complete ass from the pocket, the only time he completes passes is when he’s on the run and not over thinking.

I’m objecting to your conclusions based on your inferred statistical analysis.

I’m saying he’s young, and is rapidly improving. You seem to think past results and the averages of those games (he’s only played 3 games against real defenses) is reliable enough to be a predictive sample size.  It’s not. His trend line is showing rapid improvement so I’m content for now.

btw I’m not an arch sycophant. I was 99% sure QE was the better QB last year and saw the game was way too fast for him in the one series he had vs Georgia last year. I do think he could be really fucking good in due time though.

He’s literally like 132 out of what 142 on release time with a bad oline…. Can he be good?  Sure but let’s be real that offense is a liability right now and release time is a big part of that.  He literally only throws good passes on the run and when he’s not over thinking.

Good lord If you can’t count on your quarterback to throw from the pocket a good pass unliess he’s on the run.  Your point isn’t good.  That’s not hard to see at this point but keep acting like he’s a heisman contender.  I’m just saying this team isn’t a contender until we can count on easy passes getting completed from the pocket.   The rest of the country knows that.

Actually the heisman contender in this game threw three picks and zero tds.  Sorry for your loss.

I saw it. It actually made the Florida game worse for me bc I said arch was fine/good given the context unlike OSU where it felt like he was point shaving. Fixing 1 guy is easier/better than fixing the entire team which was the difference between OSU game and Florida.

I actually bought Arch looked ok against Sam but that was Sam.   At least he’s not throwing the ball in the dirt.

ous defense was #1 in the country.  To still come after the guy after a win like this is something else.  I feel sorry for people who can’t enjoy a win like this.

He sort of sucked in the first 2 drives against same (scored TD and didn’t throw incomplete but ball was in wrong spot and/or to the wrong guy, but he played legitimately good after that. He’s going on 10  quarters in a row of pretty solid play. After about 10 quarters of shitty play to open the season.

Talk to me after Georgia or Vanderbilt even if you don’t think your QB with a shitty oline with one of the worst releases times in college football isn’t a problem..

OK, yeah, we’ll talk after those games.

So, just to be sure, you are not happy with a 23-6 win over #6 Oklahoma because of your theory that QB release times determine outcomes?

okay

I think the answer is for the last three years is that Texas was almost dead last in the entire FBS in red zone scoring. With at least 3 different QBs. Arch will continue to improve. I submit he would be further along this season had we had typical practices starting in the spring and not changed the entire offseason practice model to light no contact practices (NFL Prostyle.) or how we came off flat, disjointed and discombobulated off a bye week to play a weak Florida team helmed by Slingblade. That’s on Sark.

You act like we didn’t already make it extremely difficult on ourselves to sniff the playoffs before the season started. Winning out would be amazing but I just have to look forward one game at a time. You should too. We already have two losses. One loss was an offensive failure and Arch played poorly. The loss to Florida was a team failure and Arch was actually one of the bright spots. He’s a mobile QB who would have benefitted from heavy 140 play practices with contact in the offseason. He’s trying to put the pieces together. he does need to get rid of the ball faster and I am sure that’s a focus of how the staff works with him in practice. Or I hope it is.

And most of us see the type of improvement in him that bodes well for us if we want to win out. Putting in Caldwell won’t change anything. Or make it better or did you not see we have been nearly dead last in red zone scoring the last three years in the entire FBS?

You are creating opposition where it doesn’t exist. No one thinks he’s playing well enough to be a top QB this year let alone the top offensive player in football. No one.

Honestly he’s given plenty of reasons to doubt him but yesterday showed some improvement.   I thought he played well given that was the #1 defense ina rivalry game.   Not sure why some can’t be happy for his success.  Well, I can imagine why

Yep. I’d say at least 1/3 of this board wants to bench him.   Again, far from perfect but he’s showing signs of figuring things out imo.

Sark's pro style offense is a double edge sword. On one hand its a bit clunky and inefficient when you dont have studs everywhere like Saban Bama. That said its also why he gets the QBs he does. Kids wanna learn it so they can be ready for the next level. I dont think Arch comes here if its the air raid.

I think Sark is learning that a program like Texas that "recruits well" isn't quite the same as a Bama or Georgia of the recent past.  And learning himself that just stacking the talent like cordwood isn't all that easy.

And I think that's a mistake all of us associated with this program make.

Yeah, a lot of this. When a program like Tceh gets 5-stars to Lubbock and can go from bottom dweller to #7 because they have a billionaire with deep pockets who wants a hobby...the game has changed. And there are more than a thousand billionaires in the US when all it takes is one with some drive to adopt a program. Horns fans  are a bizarre duality of appreciating the difference NIL makes while not understanding the difference NIL makes.

What do Arch’s teammates think about Arch? At the end of the day that’s what matters. They are the ones in the trenches with him.

"He proved today, he's a great quarterback and we're all behind him," wide receiver Parker Livingstone said. "He's the leader of this team and the leader of this offense."

"Arch can make every throw in the book," wide receiver DeAndre Moore said. "It's really about what the defense is giving us. They played a lot of deep coverage and Arch took advantage of that. It was a really great game plan."

and our secret 🤫 vey helpful Sooner teammate:

"He did a nice job," Oklahoma coach Brent Venables said. "We lost contain a few times to allow him to buy some time. And he's a good player with good skill guys around him. He played with really good poise and made some good plays in tight coverage."

I mean I get it…I only have three quotes (Venables is like a Manchurian Horn man) and Wisner also bragged on Arch post game. I am sure I could find more accolades from other teammates.

But if we hope to sniff the playoffs it’s what his teammates think he can do to get them the W that matters. And they seem to believe he can. Hopefully, we can win out.

I believe Arch's struggle was affecting the team which jumped to horrible life against Florida. Before OU, I saw the usual habit of Arch running around pre-game encouraging the team, and I wondered just how hollow it felt to the other players. Arch is sincere to the core, so it was not mere show. My point is that the team has spent weeks trying to encourage him. That gets old when you begin to believe it won't matter.

Arch's successful plays in the second half, improvised or otherwise, made him inspirational rather than struggling. The offense began playing with more belief and fed on Arch's plays where he turned third and hopeless into a fucking first down by gunning a perfect pass to the sideline while on the run.

Everything changes.

I hope we can do this becomes fuck yeah, we're doing this, motherfucker.

Oddly, getting a couple of scores ahead seemed to have a temporary negative effect on stellar defensive performance. Were we suddenly more cautious and going victory defense? I don't know, but that changed, too. The end of the game was a slaughter. It was beautiful.

We can win a lot of games moving forward if we can play the same complete game we did vs the sooners: efficient managing by Arch, defense being stout, have some run game by RB/Oline, special teams being neutral/positive.

Sark was vindicated in sticking with Manning. One could argue forever about the past games, but that does nothing. We'll never know what would have happened with Caldwell no matter how many times certain elements believe their absolute declarations have any weight.

There is a strange, to me anyway, parallel sport for some sports fans where careful noting of their own and other's opinions over time leads to petty victories of declaring someone else wrong when you were right. There are grudge matches and rivalries and even cheating (specious recollections of other's words) in this sport. It often seems to supersede the sport on the field.

It's what makes the football board often insufferable although the worst aspect is repeating the same opinion unsupported declaration (they're opinions in the form of predictions) in the same words over and over on as many threads as possible.

I agree with some of your assessment and differ with others.

I'll start with the broader agreement. Team cohesion, whether college football, military or corporate is always reliant on the mutual trust among the team members. This trust must be, from origin, fostered by the HC, Generals, CEO and other leadership. The trickle down effect at the individual contribution level requires each part (PART) of the team believe in the others (PARTs) ability to do their job and do it well.

Marketing counts on sales to follow up brand awareness and product launch, sales counts on operations to do their job daily and on engineering to provide good product, etc.

At the broadest level, D counts on O to score and O counts on D to stop scoring. RB and QB depend on OL to provide running lanes and time. WR count on QB to get the ball  to them and OL to give them time to do so.

Which is all logical. However, given the NFL approach of Sark in the spring and summer, all parts had to take it on faith that this would occur. It didn't, not surprisingly and so faith and trust in the upper management and their fellow (parts) suffered greatly. Instead of building that trust in practice in off season it was occurring on game day. Management also failed because they assumed the parts would work. They didn't, so they too had to adjust, during actual game and based on game results.

We have a bunch of concerned troll posters on this site. I think Satya posted only once in the game thread when we were already up 3 scores and OU was driving on us. He posted something like "OU is carving up our defense." I remember thinking this can't be a real post! Look at this thread. Despite putting up a very efficient performance against the #1 defense in the country, some people are choosing to harp on the negatives rather than feeling happy about beating our arch rival who we have had trouble beating even with some of our best teams. There are times to be concerned and this definitely ain't it.

I don’t know when it started that criticism means hate. Or a constructive comment means hater. Or a truthful observation means you’re an evil asshole. But somehow in the last ten or so years saying something like, “hey do you mind combing your hair for the family Christmas picture?” Turned into the other person going, “oh i see. You hate me. You don’t care about me at all. You are an evil bastard for bringing up my hair.”

Like wtf? It’s everywhere I look and not on this board. Offering up a criticism doesn’t mean you hate the person unless you follow a criticism up with “Hey do you mind combing your hair for the family Christmas picture because I hate you and you’re lazy and been plotting to drown you in a lake so smile big for the picture I need an alibi of a happy family for the cops before I off you.” That kind of shit.

criticism doesn’t mean hate. A reaction to criticism is like how my mom acts. I say “Hey do you think 10 different place settings is too much?” Her response is “yes. I’m a horrible mother and you and your brother can’t wait until I die so you can sell all my shit that brings me immense joy.”

can we all not act like my mom? It would be cool. Criticisms especially valid ones are simply that. Why not just accept the critics are coming from a place of truthfulness and acknowledge the criticism is valid without going full blown crackhead. Counter it with something other than “you hate Sark!” Most  of us do not hate him would like to keep him as HC and can also acknowledge disturbing trends that he needs to clean up and address to continue to be our HC.

LOL.

You have numerous posts on this thread mentioning the need to get Caldwell snaps. Your emotional state created the ridiculous idea that we should bench Arch, to the point that Caldwell might be "our Randy McEachern."

I thought Arch would come in from Day 1 this year and be really good. I was wrong. The UTEP game was one of the worst QB performances I've ever seen, and it made me completely recalibrate my expectations for Arch this season. But at no point should he ever have been benched for Caldwell. Bigger picture nothing good comes from benching Arch and playing Caldwell. Nothing. #18 is not the future of the program or this season. It is reactionary bullshit.

I've heard Sark comment on two occasions about wanting to stress UF deep and also that the way to beat OU probably includes deep throws.  (That's been a common thing for OU since Stoops showed up, maybe longer.)

So if the first read is (say) a deep post then maybe that explains longer hold times?  Just spit-ballin' here.

Of course, if a big guy has great feet he's usually a 4-star, at least.

You were part of the chorus that suggested Caldwell should start or get significant snaps. Talk about insufferable. It was such a ridiculous overreaction and made it clear that a lot of people on here don't know what they're watching on the field.

You showed your ass, just own up to it. We all make mistakes.

Caldwell would likely have given us a better shot at beating Ohio State versus the Arch we got. I think the crazy drills he worked on over the summer at that Alabama camp completely fucked his throwing mechanics coming into the season. It took a few games for everything to sync up with him again. There was really no way to expect that he was going to be that bad early on, but Arch improving under life fire was always going to be part of the process this season and beyond. Apparently, some people on this site can only see the world in black and white. Suggesting that if Arch continues to struggle with basic football mechanics that we might should play Caldwell is seen as a declaration that we must play Caldwell as opposed to the conditional statement that it is. The Arch we saw against Florida and OU is so much better than the Arch we got against Ohio State and UTEP.

I'm very much glad he has apparently got over his early season yips. Now we need him to start processing the field much more quickly, which he is already starting to do. We need to keep giving him chances to execute the more complex plays for his development while building game plans that overall protect his limitations from over exposure. It would be helpful in that regard if we could get our screen game working. Right now, we either miss blocks, or Arch throws a pass that takes away all momentum from the receiver. If we get that cleaned up, we'll be in a good position to have success the rest of the season as Arch's game continues to develop.

Oregon's close road win at an over-ranked and overrated Penn St was fool's gold.

I hope this team learns from their Florida mistake and comes out ready to play against the likes of UK and Miss St. We're gonna get their best shots. I'm not worried about home games @ DKR with the possible exception of Vandy.

We ain’t losing to no Vandy especially in ATX.

I normally don’t even look at this thread but I feel amazing this morning so I thought i would read all the good vibes going out QB’s way and what do I find?  Someone talking release time! Release time! WTF.

i still feel amazing you go Arch way to ball out!

Hook’Em! 🤘

When given a clean pocket, he holds the ball too long still. Which suggests he isn’t seeing what he should be seeing or doesn’t trust what he is seeing, and it throws the entire play off time. I feel like sark has known this was his issue all season, as evidenced by the Ohio state pregame interview where he said his advice to arch was to just rip it.

all the other skills seem to be there, so when this aspect clears up for him, it should be a fun ride.

as for yesterday, the screens eliminated that tendency though few of them actually worked. Might have helped slow the pass rush though and give the OL some help.

I think we need to run him a little more often to further help the run game, maybe even up to the level that they run mateer.

Whatever else gets discussed, that damn 3rd and whatever throw to Livingstone from the goal line was as big time as it gets. Just nails.
