Lots of reasons to be bummed if Trump wins but I'm kind of ashamed to admit that I honestly think the biggest one is that the trials won't go forward.

I think that should be a campaign issue.  Walz should be out there talking about how much fun it would be to see the trials going forward and how we will all miss out if they don't.

His legal "issues" (80 something felony counts, 34 convictions?) have certainly not been a point of emphasis. Even Obama's "WTF are we doing?" speech last night didn't really hit on that.

Let's be very clear about Trump's economy:  he promised to wipe out the national debt in 8 years.  In the first 3 years of his administration, the debt ROSE by ~ $5T, which had nothing to do with the covid pandemic.  Color me skeptical that he was going to turn around a debt 25% higher than what he inherited in the next 5 years.

I don't know why Democrats cannot message this better.

I'm pretty shocked the Cards Against Humanity people are anti-trump, to be honest.  Good on em.

I was surprised as well when I learned this. They bought land on the border near SpaceX during the Trump administration using crowdsourced funds in order to block border wall construction. SpaceX has been trespassing on that land using it as a staging area for construction. They recently sued SpaceX and Elon and have said they will distribute any proceeds of the lawsuit to the users that provided crowdsource funds.

I think the problem is that the convictions are a plus for MAGA.  My theory is that we need to be pushing how it would be "fun" to continue the trial.  And how we won't get to see Jack Smith smiling for the camera every week or so.

Well everything gets immediately screamed down as SOCIALISM!!!!! and the media just goes along with it by constantly asking “how will you pay for it?”

I have not seen one person ask Trump how he’s paying for a $1T domestic deportation force

Harris is playing a bit of whack a mole in dodging interviews.

This is a tired trope that needs to die. She’s being doing interviews left and right for the last two weeks with a bunch more scheduled including the CNN town hall.

dont know why a Dem isn’t saying that inflation was the unfortunate, expected, result of Covid financial mgmt. which is a combo of Biden AND Trump. Our inflation was the lowest of all western countries. Biden and Harris should be bragging about the last 4 years. And that the work needs to continued and completed.

I tend to presume that people like Harris and Biden are reasonably smart and are backed by folks even smarter, and if they aren’t picking a particular line of rhetoric it’s because it can’t be boiled down to something easy to convey to a low information voter.

Also, “aren’t you glad you don’t live in France?  Hamburger prices are even worse there!” just lacks panache.

And on this note, this is where I admit my own presumptions about election strategy beg to second guess the Harris campaign.  It’s also an area where I feel Obama was the weakest-when you are in the clear right side of something you’ve got to beat that case into the minds of thick headed voters.  Persuadability is about moving between areas of gray, and electing a felon is clear black and white.

my dad donated $30 to the galveston county democratic party. I cannot say enough how surreal this is, not just that he's actually donating to a political party, but that is the democrats at that! My dad was an apathetic republican by default for decades, voting was just a rote ritual for him where he'd go and check the republican downticket without even knowing who was running. He grew up in the era of dixiecrats in jim crow era houston where his deeply brown ass couldn't go into whites only washrooms and stuff. The Republicans hitching their wagon to Donald Trump will ultimately backfire when examined through the lens of history, because this is a generational shift. They are driving away a previously pacified base and giving them a reason to pay attention, which does not favor the republicans one bit.

Is this real?

In what world, how, when, did a deeply brown guy wind up an "apathetic republican"?

My dad wasn't paying attention to pat buchanans or any of that shit. He was putting himself through night school while working long days as a carpenter raising 3 kids and paying off his house. My dad didn't listen to politics radio, he was listening to the Eagles. He wasn't watching Fox News, he was playing baseball with his sons. Believe it or not, there's a percentage of the population who doesn't follow politics AT ALL because they do other shit. My dad grew up when the perception of democrats in the south were the same people enforcing Jim Crow. Then he went to Vietnam. And then he came back and basically never updated his political views again until Biden ran for office. I don't know how in the world that sounds unbelievable. It is precisely that my dad retired just as Biden was running in 2020 that he finally had time to sit down and pay attention. And he's adjusted his views accordingly. He said he was holding his nose in 2020, but now in 2024, he's full on flag-waving on board, putting his money where his mouth is. The republicans have Donald Trump to blame.

Hey look, I'm not trying to offend.  I'm sincerely trying to understand.  All those things are good things, and I can see how one might check out on politics.  But I also see how one can do all the things you describe and also keep up with politics.

That is all.

I honestly think this is a case of having your nose too close to the subject. You and I are people who will spend our time seeking out and talking politics on a sports board. We are the sort of people who realize politics is in everything, and it's obvious to us. But a huge percentage of people don't ever see it. Ever heard someone old say something dumb like "Star Trek is woke now!" without a hint of irony? They're not being obtuse, they're honestly that ignorant. I'll give another frame of reference to my dad's perspective, he told me about this dude he knew when he was a carpenter who would watch cspan all the time, and his perception was "that guy was always pissed off, and would tell me 'don't watch or it'll just make you mad.'" So my dad took his advice literally and wouldn't watch.

Are Biden’s 8 circles like his top 8 on MySpace?

The "Trump stole 1.7 billion from Americans" and that word salad back to back was something. It's truly remarkable to see things happen literally every single day that would have ended anyone else, permanently. To have that kind of protection must feel incredible.

I was telling someone the other day that the shit Trump did when he first took office where he tear gassed the protestors at the church live on tv then walked over and held up the bible would have been the political scandal of the entire century for any other president. With trump, the majority of people have completely forgotten it, including the person I was talking to who had no recollection at all about it.

I mean this in the most sincere way—are you okay? Between this comment and the ones about dems should stop focusing on trans prisoners to the one about the interview of the maga FIL who has been brainwashed and you not believing it because they need to go live on tv, I’m getting concerned.

That happened near the end of his term, which sort of proves your point.

This is why I don’t think the election is as close as they’re trying to tell us

Shes not shedding huge numbers of black voters like the polling subsamples say

Shes not doing any worse with Latino voters nationwide than Biden

She’s doing roughly the same as Biden did with young voters

She’s killing Trump in the burbs - doing better than Biden

She’s doing better with women and college educated voters than Biden did

It doesn’t square up

Eddie is alright, but he's just kind of always "Dems need to move to the middle!" vibing regardless of what's actually going on.

Anyone watch the Univision thing last night?

Got to hear questions from "undecided" voters like this

It really does all blur together into one astonishing mess. At some point it just becomes drops of water in the ocean, which is why all these news drops barely move the needle if at all anymore.
