Elon Musk: Officially a fraud and piece of shit. Official or unofficial war criminal?

When you take the positions that Elon takes, you need to own them. Elon hates the NYT as much as you do. He preaches the gospel of media skepticism. When you sing in harmony with someone, you’re gonna get called on it.

More strawman, you're on a roll. I have a NYT sub and read it consistently. I actually prefer the more nuanced propaganda of someone like Charlie Savage over Natasha Bertrand. The latter is just too obvious. The former will sell a bunch a dumbasses on stuff like bounties on American troops in Afghanistan and then they will really dig in on it without considering the obvious play the sources are running on them.

t appears that the downtime was not limited to Ukraine theatre, but broadly impacted North America and Oceania and perhaps others. Seems like something that would be very traceable in terms of cause and in particular human interventions. Start with assessing factors insides SpaceX and those outside. I've seen explanations that range from "Elon is a treasonous traitor" to "solar flare event". I would tend to the less emotive explanations, but seems like this one can be readily sussed out by subject matter experts with the right info. Or an appropriate regulatory body.

I'm picturing Russian ships in Ukrainian waters being attacked, and a Russian getting Musk on the phone and screaming at him to get SpaceX to shut down Starlink and then Musk screaming at somebody at SpaceX to shut down coverage, and the SpaceX employee saying "what do you mean shutdown Starlink? Which Starlink satellites or which areas?"

And then Musk responds.

Elon’s newest excuse is he couldn’t turn on Starlink in Crimea because of US sanctions. It’s no wonder the usual idiots swallow it with a smile.

It’s follows the tried and true formula on how to convince dumb people to believe something they want to believe anyway

1. Give them one truth to cling to: There are US sanctions on Crimea

2. Ask them to ignore all other pieces of information: The US has given billions of military aid and supplies to Ukraine, including purchasing the fucking Starlink terminals in question to use to repel Russia from their lands. They entire purpose of US sanctions on Crimea was to punish Russia for invading Crimea.

Seems like something that could be cleared up pretty quickly by calling jake Sullivan, milley, and musk in to testify.

The Starlinks smuggled into Iran during the protests sure seemed to work fine. Pretty sure they're under sanctions as well.

Starlink was turned on after the US government explicitly blessed it.

Their secret campaign, they say, was made possible by two public announcements: on Sept. 23, after protests had erupted in more than 80 cities, the Biden Administration cleared the way for U.S. communications companies to operate in Iran while keeping other sanctions in place. Later the same day, Musk announced, “Starlink is now activated in Iran.” That was the good news. But his message continued: “It requires the use of terminals in-country, which I suspect the government will not support, but if anyone can get terminals into Iran, they will work.”

I mean, I wouldn't, and I have a subscription. The NYT is consistently misleading or ill informed at best, especially on most global stories. That's not to say they don't get somethings correct, but I would regard a generic NYT story with a healthy amount of skepticism.

The latter part is what was confusing me. Is their argument that sanctions against Russia apply to Crimea because Russia annexed Crimea in 2014? Isn't that premised on an underlying belief that the annexation was legal? The whole point is that Russia should be considered as illegal occupiers of Crimea. It's a blatantly pro-Russia argument, so not at all surprising coming from the usual players.

It's crazy how stupid this elmo motherfucker is yet he keeps running his mouth. https://www.thedailybeast.com/elon-musk-slammed-by-taiwan-over-china-comments I guess this is the "doubling down" phase but I hope it's the FAFO stage. The one consistency he has is backing totalitarian interests at the expense of the US.

Musk was quizzed on the Starlink controversy as he appeared remotely at the All-In Summit in LA on Tuesday, getting a round of applause from the tech bros after declaring: “The Ukrainian government is not in charge of U.S. people or companies. That’s not how it works.”

After that dig at Ukraine, Musk went on to give his opinion on China-Taiwan: another conflict where, it appears that he believes, might is right.

Asked about rising tensions between the West and China, and their effects in Silicon Valley, Musk pointed out that China had been pushing for reunification with Taiwan for more than half a century.

He went on: “From this standpoint, maybe it’s analogous to, like, Hawaii or something like that: an integral part of China that is arbitrarily not part of China, mainly because the U.S. Pacific Fleet has stopped any reunification effort by force.”

There is nothing arbitrary about Taiwan’s independence, however; the island was the only holdout against the Communist Party in the Chinese Civil War, which ended in the mainland being re-named the People’s Republic of China in 1949. The former Chinese government fled to Taiwan, which has remained independent ever since.

“Things have got to the point where China’s military strength is increasing, and ours is more or less static. And strategically, you can imagine, trying to defend Taiwan is not easy, because it’s very close to the coast of China,” he added.

“There will come a point, probably in the not-too-distant future, when China’s military strength in that region far exceeds U.S. military strength in that region. And if one is to take China’s policy literally, and probably one should, there will be some forceful... force will be used to incorporate Taiwan into China. This is what they’ve said: If there’s not a diplomatic solution, there will be a solution by force.”

Musk went on to predict a period of rising U.S tensions as China builds up its military power in the South China Sea, with “tit-for-tat reciprocal sanctions over the next few years.”

“Then we’ll see: Is there going to be a diplomatic solution to reunification or a non-diplomatic solution? But he [Chinese leader Xi Jinping] has made it clear that one way or the other there will be a solution, from his standpoint."

Wu’s response came via the official X/Twitter account of the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which reposted a clip from Musk’s appearance with a fierce comment, signed by Wu, pointing out that X is banned in China—and that Taiwan is not part of the People’s Republic of China.

There's not much mystery to Elon: if there's authoritarian dick to suck, he'll be the guy kneeling and bobbing on it.  His rate of "siding with authoritarian states" is pretty close to a perfect 100%.

Elon is a fucking authoritarian tool.  He's an unabashed enemy of all free people, everywhere.  Don't try to apply any bullshit nuance to it, there really isn't any.  In any given situation where there's the interests of an authoritarian state on one side, and ANY contrary interest on the other side, he'll pick the authoritarian state.

All very fair points. But you also get the NYT cooking site, in which you can find some good leads on dinner recipes from time to time. But, and perhaps a great example of your point here, you also get some real fucking hot garbage.

I can't figure out if he truly likes authoritarianism or if he is just so engrained as a contrarian that he just feels smart "asking questions" about whether US policy against Russia and China is right. I really think it's the latter. I'm not sure he's smart enough, or mature enough, to actually care about what's actually happening or to have any understanding of authoritarianism/socialism/facism/etc. I mean he compared Taiwan to Hawaii, and their difference with the PRC as "arbitrary." One could read the Wikipedia article on Taiwan and be more informed than this dipshit.

Aw man. Things would take twelve years to heat up in the oven, while you're sitting there on the rattan sofa behind the folding metal tray watching one more Bactine commercial then it'll finally be time for Kolchak: The Night Stalker, and you've already got that sticky plastic glass full of Kool-Aid. And those mashed potatoes with the crispy brown edges where they were trapped between two layers of metal, and some of the peas wrinkled up for the same reason, and I mean

DAMN

it was better than school cafeteria food.

Bingo.  The winner was the one with some sort of fruit crumble dessert in the small square space that got crammed between the taters and peas.  That, and some quality programming on the tee-vee, man, that was L-I-V-I-N.

Sell me a TV dinner that is nothing hut the brownies that came in those 70s/80s TV dinners.  Those things were magical and probably made out of cancer.

That’s awesome. I only had one of those. I think it was Salisbury steak. Regardless, it was still better than food I’ve had at a few places. Kolchak: Night Stalker. Lol.

He likes authoritarianism because he believes that in an authoritarian system  he’d be in charge. Simple as that.

My mom did her best, but she was not good in the kitchen. Lots of hot pockets cooked in those little silver sleeves, tv dinners, french toast pizza, mac with the powdered cheese (still love that shit and will cut you if you talk bad about it).

Nay on the pee guac.

Yea on the processed trays of American goodness.  Do I feel shame that my family's middlebrow tastes in the 1970s put money in Tucker's greasy pockets?  Yes.  But trust me on this....there are MANY things in my life that I a) feel shame for, yet b) joyously enjoyed the HELL out of.  Judge me all you want, I giveth not a single fuck.  I am what I am, I like what I like.
