Holiday’s ball handling is pretty rough. He reminds me an Astros prospect. He does everything pretty well, but lacks a critical skill to play his position at an above average level.

If he can keep that near 40% BTA percentage on 5+ attempts I would say he has a critical skill that the current Rockets lack in spades and needs for the spacing to allow Durant and Sengun to work.

Any word on how/when the injury occurred? I assume this occurred while training. Reed better step the fuck up this year. Fuck the shitty run we’re having with Htown sports. Rockets basketball was supposed to save us.

In the annals of Houston sports fandom, this isn't anywhere close to being the worst. Get a grip.

FVV's biggest strength is his veteran presence on the court. His actual output/stats at this point of his career can be replaced.

Hopefully he shows up at practices and games to help with leadership and motivation.

I love KD and his game, but the Rockets are in trouble if they depend on him as a team leader unless they are in a Twitter war. It’s time for Sengun, Tari, Jabari, and Amen to grow up.

Jose Alvarado would be a nice option. Dude has been stuck on the Pelicans for years, and is probably much better than it seems. Put him with great players and he could be a valuable piece for a cheap price. I like the TJ McConnell and Pritchard options too, cheap guys that can make an impact.

Derrick White would be an incredible get, but I don't see the Celtics trading him. He would cost a lot of picks, probably 5 firsts, including all the Suns picks. I don't see the Rockets doing that.

Hopefully Reed steps up between now and December 15th, and makes this decision unnecessary.

VV is replaceable.

This is mainly bad for Houston because they just wrapped up the offseason assuming he would be healthy.

Silver lining is that this injury happened now and not in February. They'll get to see if Reed can actually play and make a trade calculus from there.

This narrative is stupid. Durant makes everyone around him better. Phoenix was a disaster last season but they were still 4 games above .500 when KD played. Just don't let him weigh in on any FO decisions.

Say what you will about his overall production, FVV has put up some absolute monster playoff performances over his career. Dude is clutch as hell and has done it when the stakes were at their absolute highest. Those on the court things aren't easily replaceable.

I didn't see anything from (my admittedly limited and Spurs fan-biased) watching of Reed Sheppard last year that leads me to believe he will be a NBA level starting guard. He looked so small and physically overmatched. Jury is still way out on him and he was just a 20 year old rookie on sporadic minutes, but I wasn't very impressed.

Absolutely, he was a rookie, very young and raw last year. I don't think he's going to become the floor general over an off-season, but if he can contribute now is the time to rpicex. The only issue is that if he isn't ready at the start of the season, and he falls on his face, it will hurt his trade value if he's needs to be part of a trade.

Hindsight being what it is, it sure would be nice to have Castle now...

That's why I said "at this point of his career". He's on the back end of it.

With KD, rising young players like Sengun & Amen, and more PT for Shepard, FVV was gonna have a diminished role as a shotmaker on this team.

True, but 31 isn't exactly ancient. It's not like you're trotting 40 year old Chris Paul out there. If healthy, I'd imagine FVV could still go 35 minutes a night.

I don't know about the shotmaking role, though. They are going to need more than KD to stretch the floor if Sheppard can't cut it. Teams are going to pack it in the lane on them and dare them to beat them from outside. And KD jacks a surprisingly low number of threes for how great of a shooter he is.

Yeah, Shepard was a disappointment last year, particularly due to being the #3 pick. The roster was deep which made it hard to find consistent minutes, but he looked overwhelmed most of the time. To be fair, he went from one year at Kentucky (as the 6th man) to the NBA. That's quite a jump for a guy who is not an athletic specimen.

The word is the front office is still very high on him. I expect to see significant improvement.

FVV going down isn’t a regular season problem It’s a playoff problem.  Make a call in January.  Someone will be available.

The west is so good that seeding is going to matter.  Having a 4 or 5 seed will be much worse than having a 2 or 3 seed.  Coming out of the play-in would be a death sentence.
