Is Desmond Bane worth all that? Is he actually good? Dude just screams Bradley Beal to me.*

*not that that's not a nice player to have, so long as he isn't on a supermax contract with a no-trade clause

Every trade like this is such an indictment of Nico. You get four first round picks, a swap, and players for T-Rex and Luka gets you Anthony Davis.

Lol they said AD was worth four first rounders. So Desmond Bane just got traded for almost the exact same package as Luka.

No. 4 frp for Bane is ridiculous, especially since one of them is a swap for 2026 with Washington and Phoenix who should both be lottery bound next year. Unless I’m reading that incorrectly. And his big contract kicks in this year. I haven’t looked at Orlando’s cap situation but they have to be moving into apron territory with the extension they have Wagner.

And Memphis I guess is clearing cap for JJJ extension? Accumulating resources for a big move? Weird move for a team trying to compete but that’s a huge haul for Bane.

I don't care what position you're in. If somebody is willingly giving you all of that for f'n Desmond Bane, you do it. Nice player, but come the fuck on.

"The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks and one first-round pick swap, sources told ESPN on Sunday.

Orlando is sending Memphis the No. 16 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, its 2026 first-round pick (which includes swap rights with the Phoenix Suns or Washington Wizards) and its 2028 and 2030 unprotected first-round selections, sources said. The pick swap is top-two protected in 2029."

That seems like a lot for Bane. Not that Orlando was going to do anything with the current team, but those picks are valuable.

I don't think Cole or KCP are anything special, but they need some salary to match and they are easily expendable pieces for a trade. Bane is probably better than anyone they could have drafted with those picks, but his contract is expensive.  Next 4 years are 36,39,42,44m. Probably worth the gamble.

Both JJJ and Ja will be 26 at the start of the season.

I wouldn’t be surprised if those two are next to go and the team goes for a complete rebuild, tanking next season in the hopes of getting a top three pick in a loaded 2026 draft.

Copy what OKC did.

I’ve really grown to love JJJ as a player, but Ja is a goddamn train-wreck. Such a talented player with the brain of a 15 year old douchebag. Get what you can get for him and get out. The problem is that Memphis (the city) would riot.

Based on his contract, personal baggage, and injury history, I'm not sure how much you'd get.  He's a stat guy but Memphis seemed as good or better without him.  You'll be paying him $50M, get his injuries, and then his wanna be gangster piece of shit posse which includes his dad at all of the games.

It's literally a no win situation.  Memphis is stuck with him.

Why don't you win the Finals before you start making comments like this.

Like - just wait a week.

The victory lap shit gets annoying.

Also - SGA's dad is a huge fucking piece of shit. So spare me that angle.

I like Ja and his dad a million times better than whatever DiveyMc Diverson and his dad have been cooking up this playoffs.

Bill Simmons was joking but Triple J on the Lakers would suck. I don’t think they have enough picks to make it for work for Memphis.

The "drawing a line in the sand" thing is fucking hilarious.

I'm pretty sure that Durant wouldn't not play - but they'd be throwing another season in the trash if they didn't deal him and then he'd just walk. Or they go into the season with him and try and trade him later. Then he maybe gets hurt and has no trade value.

I mean they have zero fucking leverage. Just take your medicine you buffoons. I'd obviously trade Booker, too, but they're too dumb to do that.

I'm sorry I just don't know how they have any leverage anymore. Yes KD is still great, a top 10 player...but he's 36 and only getting older which means more rest and injuries.

Unless someone is desperate (Please keep Nico away from the phones) no one should be going to crazy to get him.

A couple of late picks and some players sure...but this talk of like 4-5 first rounders and young good players is crazy.

Anyone giving up 2 starters and a first round pick for a 36 year old is nuts.

Exactly.

First impressions of this trade it's pretty damn good (maybe great) for Houston.

Green and Brooks are little more than jags and the #10 pick is very unlikely to be a difference-maker for a playoff team.

They needed offense and KD provides that and then some despite his advanced age.

Good for KD. Not that he necessarily deserves it, but the basketball world is much better off when he's on a playoff relevant team, even if it's fucking Houston.

Great trade for the Rockets. Phoenix still has a lot of work to do both rebalancing their roster and their cap. But whatever they do, they are most likely still going to suck. Horrible franchise management.

Couldn't happen to a nicer owner.  And Phoenix doesn't control their first round pick until 2031.

But at least they have fan favorites Grayson Allen, Dillon Brooks, Devin Booker, and Jalen Green.

I wonder what the odds would have been 10 years ago that KD plays for 6+ teams in his career.

I mean this is his 5th team. I have to think it will be his last.

On paper, this is a great deal for HOU.   They needed a go to scorer in the playoffs badly.  Jalen Green had a couple good games but he was largely a disappointment.  They can find another Dillon Brooks.  Prolly for cheaper than what Brooks makes and the #10 pick is meh in this crapshoot of a draft.     Now the question will be whether they have leadership on the team established or if they will follow KD.   If its the latter they will have trouble.    Having Udoka as their coach could help some though.
