The rumors are that the owner, a known dipshit, made the call.  No one else in the Knicks wanted him gone.

I have no clue if that's accurate, given the immediacy of the situation and information available, but knowing how fucking idiotic Dolan is, I believe it blindly.

Stuff that I've seen is that players complained about the long minutes which is an old story with Thibbs.    That said, the players should have been told to eat a dick.   The most successful coach they've had in 25 yrs shouldn't get fired.    Especially when you cannot point to any sort of underachievement this yr on his part.   There were some players that didnt live up to expectations (Bridges and OG I'm pointing at you).   They had a great season and improved from the yr before.  Firing the coach makes zero sense

Not at all surprised. The guy has no concept of how to use his roster or make adjustments.
He leans on his starters to look better than he is.

Carlisle ate his lunch and dinner in the series. Thibs was completely outclassed. But this was likely a decision process that began with their late season swoon. Detroit should not have gone 6 games and Boston was smoke and mirrors. Without a catastrophic injury, this would have been a failed season with another 2nd round exit. Pacers exposed and took advantage of every flaw in beating them for the second straight year. They were better prepared and made smarter adjustments through the series. Knicks had the injury excuse last year, but it was all coaching this time.

Except that when Tatum got hurt, game 4 was basically over and the injury had nothing to do with the Knicks being up 3-1.

I'm not a fan of Thibs as a coach, but I hate this firing. He is the same coach today as when he started with NYK. So what were you expecting? You had your best season this century. Sure, he's not going to ever win you a championship, but I would have said that the day he was hired.

Tatum got hurt and that did Boston in. Also, blowing 2 huge second half leads in the first 2 games. Absolutely smoke and mirrors. I have zero problem with moving on from a coach like Thibbs if you have a plan to replace him with something better. The whole concept of a franchise should stay content with a coach just because he's better than past failed coaches is a flawed way of thinking.

Knicks have a roster to contend but this coach isn't going to get it done. No different than the Mavs moving on from Avery Johnson. I heard the same things from Mavs fans as I'm reading about Thibs. "So dumb to move on from a guy who just had all this success". Thibs was schooled by a veteran coach and so was Avery back to back years against Riley and Nelson.

Yes, Tatum going down wasn't the reason they lost but it diminished any chances they had at coming back. Boston absolutely could have come back down 3-1 with Tatum. Either way, the Knicks turned around in the ECF and did what Boston did. Lose the first 2 at home. Against a team they probably should have beaten. Thibs has been criticized for his style of play and approach forever now. He hit his ceiling here. But they do need to hit on the replacement. Not sure who they have in mind.

This is my point. He has done as well as could have been expected. But we all knew what his ceiling was the day he was hired, so I don't understand the firing. If I want to get a dog to help with duck hunting and then I go and adopt a shih tzu, I can't be upset when his furry ass doesn't bring me a dead duck.

If I was owner, I'd probably fire Thibs for his hair alone. That's indicates a man with a shadowy grasp of reality. Leaving those few hairs to run isolation at the top of the key ain't ever gonna work.

Thibs is approaching Frank Vogel levels of the stable, aging, old school white coach that you bring in knowing you'll have to fire him in 3 years.

What are y'all's thoughts on Doris Burke and the fact that ESPN may shitcan her?  I'm not a fan, but I'm biased because she's a Philly homer and it's so obvious when the Celtics and Sixers play.  Don't mind her much when those teams aren't playing.  I see a lot of hate on twitter today, but can't take that for much as it's a hateful space overall.

I don't mind her at all - but the Reggie/Bilas cross-network combo this playoffs set the bar so fucking low that Doris could be bad and I wouldn't notice.

She’s good for sideline but absolutely sucks at her new job.

It's what I've been saying for literally a decade.  Knowing what we now know about James Harden, does anyone really think he'd stay in OKC to play third banana behind Durant and Westbrook?

That's not even accounting for the strip club differential between Houston and Oklahoma City?

OKC could have offered him more money keep him, it's that fucking simple. Simply pull some money out of their billionaire owner's pocket to cover the tax for a few seasons, and they would have been fine as other less important contracts dropped off the books. Instead, they offered him some low-ball like 4 years 52m, which would have put OKC just under the tax line. Harden he rejected it, and rightly so as he got 4 year 80m deal from Houston. So the Thunder traded him in the offseason when he had a lot of value, and got a good haul for him.

They also had the option to let him play out that last year on his rookie deal for cheap, let him prove himself, and then see if it's worth matching whatever he got as an RFA the next year. That's what I would have done if I were the GM, as they were a rising young team and another year of playing together could have made the difference.
