Shockingly, this is apparently wrong. One google search brings up a bunch of “Newsom receives major polling boost” articles.

Trump however hasn’t been this unpopular since 1/6. So, you know, upside down world.

Is Newsom and/or his troll army still alive?  Not a peep out of them since we had to go all in on licking Charlie Kirk's ass.

It would be undignified to mock the President at such a tragic time for our nation. Because the left ALWAYS has to be the adults for some reason.

Apparently it's the price of thinking that governance is serious and important (or at least the appearance of governance lmao)

Gov. Gavin Newsom is calling on 10,000 young men to serve as mentors, coaches and tutors through a new campaign called the California Men’s Service Challenge.

The statewide initiative, announced on Tuesday, is the latest in an executive order directing agencies to address mental health in boys and young men.

“We have an epidemic of loneliness, and so much of that is manifesting and metastasizing online in very profound and consequential ways, and last week only underscored that further,” said Newsom on Tuesday, referencing the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah university campus.

In California, boys and men age 15 to 44 die by suicide at three to four times the rate of women, often by firearms. Almost half of female homicide victims are also killed by a current or former intimate male partner.

Over the course of a year, the state will partner with youth organizations, including Improve Your Tomorrow, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Mentor California, and the American Institute for Boys and Men, to recruit and train them as mentors for young boys.

“The goal is to create consistent, positive relationships where men model integrity, empathy and community engagement while helping young men develop confidence and purpose,” Josh Fryday, the state’s chief service officer, told EdSource.

Fryday said the initiative will include ongoing one-on-one and group mentoring, tutoring or reading programs, service projects, coaching youth sports and guiding young men through college and career exploration. It will be supported by California Volunteers, the state’s $275 million program for community service and civic engagement.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Gov. Gavin Newsom is threatening to withhold billions in state funds from any California college that signs onto an agreement crafted by President Donald Trump's administration requiring schools to agree to support the President's education agenda in order to have access to federal dollars.

The 10-page "Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education" requires universities to adhere to rules written by the administration in a variety of areas, including admissions, hiring, free speech on campus, teaching and the use of endowments.

"IF ANY CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY SIGNS THIS RADICAL AGREEMENT, THEY’LL LOSE BILLIONS IN STATE FUNDING — INCLUDING CAL GRANTS — INSTANTLY. CALIFORNIA WILL NOT BANKROLL SCHOOLS THAT SELL OUT THEIR STUDENTS, PROFESSORS, RESEARCHERS, AND SURRENDER ACADEMIC FREEDOM," Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement Thursday, intending for the entire statement to be written completely in uppercase letters.

The compact was sent to nine universities on Thursday, according to CNN, with the only California school being the University of Southern California. A spokesperson for the university did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday afternoon.

USC is a private school that receives Cal Grants from the state. KCRA 3 has reached out to the California Department of Finance to see how much money the school has received from those state funds.

Maybe the best legislation passed by Dems since the Civil Rights Act

https://www.theverge.com/news/794145/california-law-noisy-ad-volume-streaming-services

Quote

California has ordered streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and YouTube to stop cranking up the volume during commercial breaks. Under a law signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday, advertisements will be required to air at the same volume as content being streamed on the provider’s platform starting July 2026.

Bill 576 was introduced in February by California state senator Tom Umberg, citing a complaint from one of his staffers about the skyrocketing volume of streaming ads disturbing the sleep of his newborn. In a statement following the bill being signed into law, Umberg said it was inspired by “every exhausted parent who’s finally gotten a baby to sleep, only to have a blaring streaming ad undo all that hard work.”

The legislation is modeled on the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act, which enforces ad volume restrictions for TV broadcasters at the federal level, but doesn’t apply to streamers. Given California’s massive influence over the US entertainment industry, the new law could set a national standard.

You're welcome, America.

https://www.politico.com/news/2025/12/09/newsoms-favorability-rating-surges-in-california-00681683

Newsom’s favorability rating jumped 10 percentage points over the course of the year, from 46 percent in June to 56 percent this month. The Legislature’s standing improved by 8 points in the same time period, reaching a 53 percent majority.

And for the first time since 2021, a slim majority of voters — 51 percent — said, in consecutive months, that California is on the right track. Behind that reversal was more optimism among independent voters and a double-digit confidence boost among Democratic voters, who also reported far higher enthusiasm than their Republican counterparts to vote in the upcoming midterms. That likely reflects the reality of new maps boosting Democrats and shrinking the GOP’s competitiveness.

The results paint a picture of a Democratic electorate emerging from the doldrums as its leaders adopt a more aggressive stance toward Trump, culminating in the landslide victory last month of their Proposition 50 redistricting ballot initiative.

California Democrats also enjoy support from the independent voters who compose a quarter of the state’s electorate, the poll found. Nearly two-thirds said voter approval of gerrymandered congressional districts was “mostly a good thing,” and a majority said the November special election was worth its $251 million price tag.

At the start of the year, legislative Democrats vowed a focus on affordability and Newsom sought a more diplomatic approach toward the White House as the party reeled from crushing election defeats. But that shifted as Trump pursued policies that are anathema to many Californians, from sweeping immigration raids to deep spending cuts.

Now Newsom is touting the party’s Prop 50 win, along with Democratic victories across the country last month, as evidence the party is “in its ascendancy.”

The governor and other California Democrats are still grappling with stubborn political liabilities. Voters of every affiliation overwhelmingly called the state too expensive — housing in particular.

But a plurality of voters and a majority of Democrats said the most important issue facing the country is “political extremism or threats to democracy,” themes Newsom has emphasized as he warns the country is sliding into authoritarianism.

As much as I don't want Newsom to run in '28--Rush and Rupert Murdoch have 40+ years of poisoning the well for a slick-haired, smooth-talking "extremist" from Commiefornia to do well in a national vote--there's literally no one else right now. He is the only visible, widely-known opposition.

The CA baggage is real. 30 years of right wing media have convinced a sizeable portion of the country that California - a state home to one of every eight Americans, and the cultural, technological, and economic powerhouse of the US - is a failed, crime-ridden hellscape.

That said, others should take note that pushing back on Trump and calling out his BS seems to work

Counterpoint: It looks like Newsom won't be running against Vance so much as he's running against Trump's turbo-fucking the economy and getting us involved in one or more wars that we didn't need to get involved in.  And Vance has the personality of Ted Cruz.
