He was barely Russell's equal at Mercedes and now he's slower than Leclerc. Ever since he hasn't had the fastest car in the field by far he is merely a decent F1 driver.

Signed, Nico. And Max. And Vettel.

What a dumb hot take.

I'm not trying to be argumentative as I agree on the fantastic ball of confusion that surrounds Ferrari. It's astounding that they shoot themselves in the foot so often.

Even with all of the dramatic fuck-ups Ferrari has finished second in the constructor's championship seven times, since and including 2012 and are currently second. They have also finished third five times, since and including 2010.

Obviously the third-place finishes are much, much less impressive than the seconds, and they have not won a driver's title since 2007.

Hamilton has two victories in his last 82 races. I just think at 40 years old he isn't up to snuff. I think the same about Alonso, who has not won in 203 races. I think LeClerc has six wins in his last 80 races.

And yes, there are a ton of factors that go into it all.

I agree with your son

I dunno about Lewis, but I gotta disagree with you re: Alonso. He's a monster out there. Just keeps doin' it. If Newey can give him a car, he'll at least compete for more WDCs. IMHO nobody out there is better in-race than Alonso, even now.

Re: AM's pace this weekend, I don't think it's really a turnaround in their fortunes, but I'd love to be wrong. Alonso said around Spa that they were done with upgrades and the rest of the way they'd be good at some tracks and not so good at others. I guess now we know what kind of circuit they can be good at. My guess is those will be the minority.

Ferrari is always going to be Ferrari.

Yep. Think about the alignment of stars it took for Ferrari to get out of their own way -  Brawn + Byrne + Todt + Schumi + Phillip Morris money + one of the tire suppliers developing its tires specifically for their car + unlimited testing.

Do you think aging doesn't affect people? What a dumb take.

And other than Nico (who beat him once and was his equal for 3 seasons) when were the other two in the same car?

Almost done with reading Newey's book and he really isn't too cautious when making his feelings known about Ferrari, the way they were treated differently by the FIA,  the way other teams felt about Ferrari, and his thoughts on Michael crashing out David to make sure he won the WDC.

No doubt Adrian has his faults, but it reminds me of listening to Cowboy fans.

Yes, aging affects people. That's not the argument you made.

Great catch, they weren't in the same car. How did I miss that? But those cars they were in were plenty fast.
