He was barely Russell's equal at Mercedes and now he's slower than Leclerc. Ever since he hasn't had the fastest car in the field by far he is merely a decent F1 driver.

Signed, Nico. And Max. And Vettel.

What a dumb hot take.

I'm not trying to be argumentative as I agree on the fantastic ball of confusion that surrounds Ferrari. It's astounding that they shoot themselves in the foot so often.

Even with all of the dramatic fuck-ups Ferrari has finished second in the constructor's championship seven times, since and including 2012 and are currently second. They have also finished third five times, since and including 2010.

Obviously the third-place finishes are much, much less impressive than the seconds, and they have not won a driver's title since 2007.

Hamilton has two victories in his last 82 races. I just think at 40 years old he isn't up to snuff. I think the same about Alonso, who has not won in 203 races. I think LeClerc has six wins in his last 80 races.

And yes, there are a ton of factors that go into it all.

I agree with your son

I dunno about Lewis, but I gotta disagree with you re: Alonso. He's a monster out there. Just keeps doin' it. If Newey can give him a car, he'll at least compete for more WDCs. IMHO nobody out there is better in-race than Alonso, even now.

Re: AM's pace this weekend, I don't think it's really a turnaround in their fortunes, but I'd love to be wrong. Alonso said around Spa that they were done with upgrades and the rest of the way they'd be good at some tracks and not so good at others. I guess now we know what kind of circuit they can be good at. My guess is those will be the minority.

Ferrari is always going to be Ferrari.

Yep. Think about the alignment of stars it took for Ferrari to get out of their own way -  Brawn + Byrne + Todt + Schumi + Phillip Morris money + one of the tire suppliers developing its tires specifically for their car + unlimited testing.

Do you think aging doesn't affect people? What a dumb take.

And other than Nico (who beat him once and was his equal for 3 seasons) when were the other two in the same car?

Almost done with reading Newey's book and he really isn't too cautious when making his feelings known about Ferrari, the way they were treated differently by the FIA,  the way other teams felt about Ferrari, and his thoughts on Michael crashing out David to make sure he won the WDC.

No doubt Adrian has his faults, but it reminds me of listening to Cowboy fans.

Yes, aging affects people. That's not the argument you made.

Great catch, they weren't in the same car. How did I miss that? But those cars they were in were plenty fast.

May be an image of 4 people and text

That is what Schumacher would have done and with nearly a 300 point lead in the Constructors there is some wiggle room for Oscar.

CNN: Lewis Hamilton says there’s ‘a lot going on in the background that is not great’ after saying he’s ‘useless’ at Hungarian GP

...

Hamilton was asked about his post-qualifying comments after Sunday’s Grand Prix and continued to cut a down-beat figure.

“When you have a feeling, you have a feeling,” the British driver said. “There is a lot going on in the background that is not great.”

He was then asked whether he still had the passion to continue racing and Hamilton was more emphatic.

“No, I still love it, I still love the team,” the 40-year-old said.

In a press conference with written media, Hamilton added that he’ll “hopefully be back” when F1 returns from its summer break at the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31, according to Sky Sports.
In a statement released by Ferrari though after the race, Hamilton was more definitive, calling the whole weekend “challenging” and “one to move on from.”

“We weren’t able to make the progress we hoped for, but I’m grateful for the effort everyone in the team put in throughout the weekend,” he said. “Now, we head into the break. I’ll be using the time to reset, recharge and come back stronger. I’m not where I want to be yet, but the fight’s not over – don’t count me out.”

It’s been a frustrating debut season with Ferrari as a whole for Hamilton. He currently sits sixth in the driver’s championship standings, one place and 42 points behind Leclerc but 175 points behind current leader Oscar Piastri.

He’s failed to make a podium in any of the 14 Grands Prix in 2025, finishing fourth on three occasions.

After the Hungarian GP, Fred Vasseur – Ferrari team principal – was confident that Hamilton will come back stronger after the summer break.

“I don’t need to motivate him. He’s frustrated, but not demotivated, it’s a completely different story,” Vasseur said, per Sky Sports. “I can perfectly understand the situation.

“Sometimes you are making comments on what the driver (is) saying to the car, but you put the microphone on some other sportsman in football, and so not sure that it would be much better.

“You know that they are in the performance and sometimes they are making comments even when they jump out of the car. I can understand the frustration … we are all frustrated.”

I am suddenly very suspicious of when Hamilton supposedly ran over a groundhog in Canada.

Exactly, at the speed Lewis is currently driving that car the groundhog would have simply walked off the track.

Of course he still loves it/the team. They are paying him a very large amount of money, and from reports, a lot of it not tied to racing, rather his off-track projects.

Some, including this website link, have put the deal worth over $400,000,000. Kudos for him being able to get that deal.
