2h vs chaminade: 10-15 3p
tonight: 16-32 3p
and the thing about these shots is that they’ve largely been good shots, rhythm jumpers off either a dribble handoff or a catch-and-shoot. before yesterday we were really bad from deep. if we find a happy medium between then and the last two days it will really improve the outlook for this season. really happy with the shot selection.

Just need some major improvement on getting the ball in bounds and our guards being able to operate the offense under pressure … also need a little work on fine tuning Vok away from the pissed off, run your ass over moves … he’s very good when he makes his move quick rather than pounding the rock for 5 seconds trying to elbow his way into the paint

IMO, Miller was the target for CDC.  CDC needed a high floor guy after Beard fucked everything up and we were forced to retain Terry(due to multiple factors).

Miller has the "done it more than once" resume and yes his 6 years before this had only one decent year but his record mostly says he is a high floor/ low ceiling.

i’ve said it over and over again: the biggest, most important difference between barnes/beard and shaka/terry is accountability. results and accountability are inextricably linked.

The real question is, did anybody here think this year would be great?

Make the tournament and give us a competitive round 1. Anything more is illogical.

It should be better than whatever the fuck that was.

as is always the case, way more people than should have did openly get excited about the prospects of this team and how it would come together, and a few more looked som their nose at pessimistic predictions. so to sort of answer your question, i’m guessing that it’s just joe hitting most of our fans that this isn’t going to be the season they’d hoped for.

as i’ve said, sean miller was an underwhelming hire who i don’t think has it in him to match what barnes or even beard did here (in a vacuum), but with that said this will not be the season he is judged on. at this point i just really really hope that he’s lining up an elite portal pg, because we still don’t have one for next year.

It’s probably time to readjust expectations.

We looked like we didn’t belong on the same court as UVA.

Yeah this team isn't going to the tournament. The guards just aren't good enough.

Long way to go for this team.  Guard play is bad/disjointed and there is no offense being generated on the blocks.

Vok turns it over at an alarming rate against a competent defense, although he does have a decent upside if the patience is there to let him develop.  Traore can rebound but has no value at this point offensively, so there is no threat teams have to account for down low.  Makes it tough for shooters to get good looks when the defense isn't worried about getting beat in the interior.

I know it's still early but does this team have some culture issues that Miller is struggling with?  Kind of looks that way at times.

The holdovers have all fucking sucked including Weaver. Miller will get a mulligan for season one I guess so he can actually turn the roster over.

Still... if this is like a 6-12, 5-13 SEC team (which is what they look like right now) I'm not going to be super stoked going into year 2. That's what we just fired Terry for.

And on Vok - he's incredibly raw. He was 2/7 shooting and 3/9 from the line last night. That isn't a guy you can really build around or that is going to have success starting in this league. He's someone you want to stash on the bench and develop. Unfortunately Traore is not even a good backup big.

Does anyone know how we stack up with NIL? I kind of question our commitment with the team he put together.

I think the NIL is fine - certainly enough to be a perennial tournament team. Texas has two top 40 HS commits for '26.

I don't think the money this season is being apportioned well.

It was a piss poor effort all around, but Pope just kills this offense with his random dribbling.  Guys have no idea where he's going so it makes everything disjointed.  He also has no sense of the game.  We went on a little run in the first half to get it within 10 and dumb shit comes down the floor and heat checks a 3 from 6 feet beyond the arc with 25 seconds left on the shot clock that catches all our guys by surprise, ends up in a run out by Virginia and all momentum is lost and we never got close again.

jordan pope has zero idea how smart, effective basketball is played, and at this point it appears that our recruiting process on him involved looking at his season stats online and going, “ looks good”, because i can’t imagine actually watching him play and then thinking, “yeah my team could really use this volume-shooting “combo guard” (see: inefficient two guard) who loves to dribble in place for 15 seconds before heaving up a low percentage shot.”

jarrett allen being the last nba player of consequence to come from Texas is a depressing thought. the fact that he was terrible for half of the one season he was here and that we went 11-22 during his time at Texas makes it all the more meaningless. i’m sure Tre Johnson will eventually take over that mantle, but still; it’s been frustrating, the lack of talent and production to come through this program over the last decade+.
