Bit of a hollow excuse when a 41 year old says that he said dumb things when he was 37.

i don’t recall the exact politician but I remember when a congressman was outed as having an affair in his 50s and at the time he was in his 60s. He called it a youthful mistake. I might have the ages off some. Maybe the ages were 40s/50s instead. It was silly acting like a very grown adult wasn’t responsible for his actions.

it worked for George W. Bush.

There is more and more chatter that Mary Peltola is going to run against Dan Sullivan for that seat in Alaska.  And a number of recent polls show her tied or ahead of him.

As a reminder, she won the at-large House seat in 2020, but was narrowly defeated in 2024.  So she has a record of winning a statewide race.

Alaska is politically a really weird state.  Given the candidate issues the Dems are having in Maine, Alaska may be a more likely pick-up than beating Collins.

How does one establish temporary residence in a swing state

This thread title should be changed to Senate 2026: A Waste Of Time.

There is also independent Dan Osborn in Nebraska, and Sherrod Brown has a polling lead in Ohio. Maine is a blue state, and I don't think Susan Collins hangs on next year regardless of what happens .

Platner is my kind of dude. I don't care what tattoos he has.

Granted it doesn't matter what I think, I have never even been to Maine and as far as I am aware have not even met a person from there.

Dem voters are out of fucks to give and I am here for it.
Maybe Al Franken will come back.

Imagine a time when you pretend to cup a sleeping chick’s boob and you have to resign. What a quaint time we lived in back then.

Just saw a Coryn ad during the aigy game v. south carolina.  He votes "99% of the time with Trump!"

Might want to pay your consultant a little editing money and fix that.

He’s been running those ads since the MAGA folks started lining up to primary him.  They always end with a phone number you can call to thank him for voting with Trump.  I usually call to tell him to pull his head out of Triump’s ass

I'm pretty sure that the numbers listed in the ads are his Texas office numbers.   It never hurts to give them a ring and remind the person taking the call (if it doesn't go to voicemail) that John Cornyn sucks at making brisket.

I'm far from a Cornyn fan and would crawl through broken glass to vote against him but I don't want to see Paxton be our senator. For the actual votes in the Senate, I don't think it matters much if Cornyn or Paxton win but I don't want to see Senator and Texas next to Paxton's name.

I will be surprised if they openly challenge Schumer but I've heard some suspect that Schumer's apparent agreement of the retiring senators re-opening the govt, as signs that he's stepping down as leader if not retiring.

Judging from the tv ads running in Juneau in October there are a lot of people who fucking hate trump

I know many on this board have a hard on for Crockett but an outspoken black woman has zero shot of coming within ten points of cornyn/paxton

If the Dems don’t clear the field for the white male preacher schoolteacher, they are fucking up the only chance they have to shock the nation.  The black milquetoast football player and the sassy highly intelligent black woman have zero (Z-E-R-O) chance of winning a senate seat in Texas.

Unfortunately true.  We're a state made up of mostly racist dirtbags.

Allred dropped out of the senate race.  Not sure if that’s because he’s getting out of Crockett’s way or if they’re doing the smart thing and clearing the field for Talarico.

I feel like Crockett and the younger Dems are smarter than this. But still, Dems do….its a toss up. I heard Cornyn this morning saying he hoped Jasmine would get in the race.

Disagree strongly! Democrats clearing the field for Hillary Clinton is how America got Donald Trump.

Candidates need real tests and Democrats in Texas need attention. If Talarico can’t beat Crockett he can’t beat Cornyn or Paxton. Furthermore, a stiff challenge from Talarico will make Crockett a better candidate. Either way, the race will draw a lot of eyeballs and that’s what Democrats need more than anything.
Competitive, high contrast primaries are good, period.

The money wasn’t coming, the grass roots rejection was increasingly public and vocal, and his backers didn’t want to lose the entire value of their investment when he came in third. Allred is a salvage project now.

I hope she does too. Talarico needs a lot more edge, Crockett needs a lot more polish, and Democratic primary voters need to grow the fuck up.
A hot primary is good for everyone involved.

You can only lose so many races before you get branded a loser.

Yes, and that’s a feature, not a big. The purpose of competition is to identify winners. The losers are the people perpetually waiting for the right moment  (the Castros) or fighting over safe open seats (Texas HD 49 clown car) or incumbents pushing out other Incumbents to avoid a tough race (Casar).
I’ve got a hell of a lot more respect for a Crockett, Talarico or Eckhardt (or for that matter even an Elise Stefanik in her run for NY governor) who put themselves in a position to fail while daring greatly. That’s what opposition politics requires.
