Ok self righteous tough guy.   Fans boo all the time in all sports.  We are no better nor worse than any other fanbase,  but I look forward to reading your doctorate thesis on the economics of College Football and the psychology of fandom.  One can appreciate the job Sark has done, and still be highly dissatisfied with the product on the field this year.   One can appreciate the high quality of the defense and be highly dissatisfied with the progress of the offense.  The next time CDC tries to scrape a few more dollars for NIL from the boosters, or a capital project,  he may get a slightly different response and that's why he noticed....

A few team notes from IT

  Reveal hidden contents

I don’t have a lot to report before the game Saturday night against Sam Houston State. We are at the “don’t tell me about the labor pains, show me the baby” stage of the season. It doesn’t matter what I report about the week—all that matters is the Texas offense plays well against the easiest opponent it will see all season.

But, I have to write something.

Steve Sarkisian’s demeanor this week was enthusiastic. He, and everyone else in the program, wants to see how the offense will perform. Behind the scenes, he’s as even-keeled as ever. When he says, “We have good players and good coaches,” he truly believes they’re going to improve by a considerable amount.

One source mentioned getting DeAndre Moore back is big: “Not just for the game but for practice. He’s another person who knows what to do and can communicate with others. He’s going to be where he’s supposed to be.”

We’re going to see a number of young players with prominent roles. Don’t be surprised if Graceson Littleton plays a lot at cornerback. That would open the door at Star for Wardell Mack to play his most snaps ever. This will be fun to watch because there’s a strong chance this is how it will shake out next year—with Littleton at corner and Mack at Star. Said a source, “Littleton can play anywhere in the secondary.”

Five-star freshman Jonah Williams is going to play at safety this week. They’re wasting little time getting him on the field after he began practicing on Monday. He could also see some time on special teams. “He was fast and physical” this week.

Sark mentioned Nate Kibble, Nick Brooks, and Daniel Cruz in his Thursday availability. While IT doesn’t expect any changes to the starting O-line, we do expect all three to play. Kibble has played a little bit but should see his most action yet. We didn’t hear if Brooks will be at guard or tackle, but he should play. Daniel Cruz has been solely at center: “Has some physicality to him and is ready for snaps.” Essentially, he knows what to do, but applying it in a game setting for the first time might come with some miscues.

The staff feels good about the development of Kaliq Lockett and Daylan McCutcheon. The goal is to get them as many snaps as possible this season in anticipation of them playing major roles in 2026.

With Tre Wisner and CJ Baxter out, we’ll see the three young players again—Christian Clark, Jerrick Gibson, and James Simon. This game will go a long way toward determining who RB3 will be when Wisner and Baxter return. The deciding factor will likely be understanding the run game. Who maximizes blocking?

IT asked about Justus Terry. He bounces between scout and regular team reps. He’s in a great headspace despite not having any breakout moments. Don’t worry about him.

Speaking of scout team, KJ Lacey is doing a really good job.

Wonder if we may get Littleton at CB and Guilbeau back to star.  The few long passes completed against the defense this year have been on Guilbeau and I'm afraid come conference play that's where offenses are going to attack in the passing game.

I am definitely not liking the Guilbeau experiment. Problem is, I don't think that Kobe Black represents a huge upgrade in the speed department on the outside. Littleton to me seems like a perfect fit in the slot. He is rangy and great at coming up and tackling in run support and on underneath routes.

LOL. The "fans" that boo at a college football game aren't the alumni writing big checks. Give me a break.  Those guys might bitch and moan and certainly may not write the next check if they don't like the product, but they aren't 'booing' in the stands with the drunks/poors.

I completely agree, but that is pretty common with young runner in year 1. I think Clark is the most elusive RB on the roster. You can see his cutting ability. I am sure in HS he was able to bounce things outside and get the edge 80-90% of the time. Sometimes it takes a while before they realize that shit doesnt work in college. Physical aspect is very obvious. The question now is does he have poor vision or just the typical bad habits of a young RB.

I think he best fits the Jaydon Blue role out of the current backs.  He looked better out in space on swing passes.

I like Littleton at nickel bc he's a complete package player, instincts and talent to play the position.  Doesn't need the sideline to help him.

Sure won't mind more of him at CB either.

That was the first productive thing I've seen from him so far, looked good relative to his other touches.

Speak for yourself

Arch is too thin-skinned to play at Texas if getting booed after going 0 for 10 straight passes hurts his feelings. He'll get a lot more of that in the NFL, if he makes it. Expecting competency from the QB position doesn't make fans "douchebags".

Well yeah, I'm not concerned about Arch or his feelings.  I just think it's lame.  And you are 100% right, it's NFL fan shit.  And I don't think there is a lower class in sports fandom than "NFL Fan".   And I never said expecting more from the QB position makes you a douchebag.   I was blowing up my text chains last week and will be cussing under my breath at DKR Saturday if it happens again.  I said "booing" makes you a douchebag.  And I thought the same thing when it happened to Simms and Gilbert.  The only entity that should get the boo is the refs after a shit call.  But P.S., I also thought it was pathetic when students threw shit all over the field last year if you want to defend that as well.

Kobe is also hurt with lingering injuries.

I'm assuming you never played a minute of organized sports after middle school. The kid is making 6 million a year in NIL in his third season. It can also spark motivation to get out of a slump. Expectations are high, and fan reaction is part of the game at this level.

He is giving up 10 yards a target according to Babers. The big TD vs OSU is inflating that, but it is not good. He is probably the biggest worry on the defense. People will target him and Littleton. Littleton is young and I expect another game like SJSU, but I am reasonably confident he will be a reliable positive for the defense later in the year. I do not have the same confidence on Guilbeau.

Man I had the exact same thought after Gilbert played vs Bama, I thought "we kept it close, he grew up ten years in one night, playing the toughest opponent he will likely ever play" 2010 was the only year I was really really wrong. Turns out predicting the mental health of our QBs is a crapshoot.

Had dumbass not completely changed the offense on the kid overnight and forced him, and most if not alll of his teammates, to play in the opposite of the offense they were suited to it would have been a better situation for him.

I dont think his was a situation like Arch. He had worse talent around him due to the staff laziness, and was being forced to play a style he couldn't play.

That's the dude I would understand the most if he just smoked Mack in the jaw if he saw him. Don't think I've ever seen a QB get the rug pulled out from under him like that guy did.

i think Texas Exes has a gardening club association that might be more your style

Makes sense to get Littleton some CB reps against SHSU but not sure about moving him there full-time during the season. Sorta depends on how they feel about Mack at nickel. You don't want to end up with two problem positions if Littleton struggles on the outside.

Hopefully Kade, Kobe and Roberson can get more reps this week. Ideally one of them steps up and Littleton keeps doing what he's been doing (which will get harder in SEC play).

Hey bud, if you want to NFL fan it up and boo your team or throw shit on the field nobody is stopping you.   I'll just reserve the right to think of you as a douche and assume you are a poor.

Easier to cover playing CB than Nickle and a lot less asked mentally.

booing is carthatic, you should try it some time

Should replace neg rep with an audible BOOO noise that plays when you open the site

Don't want to piss people off, don't play like complete dogshit for 3 games. If last game were an anomaly, there's no booing. 3 games of dogshit deserves boos for Sark, Arch, and the whole offensive unit.

100%.  Each Head Coach after that fateful (for us) night took one look at the other and decided to change.  Unfortunately for Texas, we wanted to try and be Bama, , while Saban saw the writing on the wall for CFB and knew he needed to be more like Texas.  The rest is history.

If we're trying to do a "get our best five out there" deal, the top four is really easy. The fifth comes down to Guilbeau, Black, or I guess Mack if he's next man up at nickel (I guess that three safeties with Taaffe or McDonald at nickel deal isn't a thing anymore). Phillips might enter that conversation by the end of the year.

Sure, booing isn't productive, but neither is masturbating, and just try to get me to stop that.

I've never quit anything in my life except for Chinese calligraphy, my thesis: "Tuna and You - The Early Years", Kangaroo Anatomy, Toe Photography, booger sculpture and masturbation. Well...maybe not masturbation... but give me a break, it's the only thing I'm good at.

In the moment I understand how everyone was feeling. It does appear that the fanbase has backed off of any prolonged shit talking outside of the few potatoes in the Arch thread, which is a good thing. I am going into this game with lowered expectations. If we score 30+ then I am fine. If we get into the 40s I will be optimistic that we are getting a few things clicking.

You are right. They aren’t in the stands with the poors but drinking in the suites.  I have heard much worse than a few boos in the suites especially when drinking was ok in the suites but not the stadium.  College fanaticism / craziness has its share of rich and poor.  In the end we are all degenerates when it comes to this sport we love (and hate)!

I don’t boo players but I’ve tempted to boo a coach!

Felt to me, in this case, that the booing was cathartic, even good-natured, as strange as that sounds, like okay kid we've built you up now take your lumps. Of course maybe I'm just that damn ecumenical.
