What is with all the "if Sark leaves for the NFL" talk?

The next time a head football coach leaves Texas to take another job will be the first.

(Does not count if the coach is pushed out/fired)

Sark was an OC in the NFL already and it wasn't that great.  There's only a handful of head coaches in the NFL who call their own plays on offense, and even fewer actually elite ones (McVay, Reid...)

He has perfect relationships with his bosses, full control of the program and full alignment with the money guys, an elite NIL program and has everything rolling

It's so dumb, it hurts.  Our fans actively look for things to freak out about that don't exist

Oh good grief, no one is saying Sark is headed to the NFL. Athletic Directors and Boards of Regents have to plan for scenarios even if they are only remotely possible. They did a few years ago.  Nowhere in the last two pages did anyone say he was leaving for the NFL.  The whole point was that Traylor was given a heads up a few years ago that he might be in play for one of the bigger jobs down the line, so working hard to beat those teams is pretty important to him. That’s it. That’s the only point. The reading comprehension on the last page is ridiculous. Jesus. I feel like I’m conversing with a bunch of ADHD teenagers.

Traylor was being wooed by TCU and maybe? Tech when Sarkisian was going 5-7. They cut a deal in the contract extension for him at UTSA that diminished the buyout if he took a job at another school in the UT system or ATM system. That wasn't an accident and you can go look it up. I added the ATM system in there, but I think that's right.

Have things changed? Sure. Texas is in a totally different place these days. Likely/hopefully never matters for UT. ATM, however? Maybe. I thought he would have been a good hire instead of The Elk, but we'll likely never know that one either.

Sark is great. He has this program in as solid of a place as many of us have ever seen, and better than all of us expected to see again. I would love ten more years of this.

Sark is also a recovered alcoholic, who has had rib splitting heart surgery and may have an eventful personal life. I am just enjoying each day he is here and not counting on anything too far in the future.

One of the insiders on Aggies247 is opining about the DT roles and depth. I say "insider" because they all defer to him as such and he's attended practices and appears to talk to people in the program.

Hicks has beaten out Onyedim to start alongside Regis. That got people wondering if Hicks is suddenly "coming on and playing like a 5 star" and the guy said "no, he plays high and lacks explosiveness but he works hard" and then they realize that, magically, Onyedim didn't blossom after leaving ISU for a final year at ATM. Apparently he's got either conditioning or work ethic issues or both.

They're talking about playing DJ Sanders in a "key role" this season in the interior and Tarp confirmed that while also saying basically "hopefully not early though". Let's be clear here - DJ Sanders is a bad-bodied true freshman with S&C issues and no technique. Texas wanted him as a complete project who wouldn't touch the field for a minimum of 2 seasons. If ATM is playing that guy, they are well and truly fucked on defense.

I know we've discussed this ad nauseum, but they really do not understand what a drop off in their front 3/4 is going to do to the rest of their defense. They're mostly in denial that there will be a drop off after losing 3 early round picks from the front 3/4, for starters. There's almost no analysis, beyond Tarp surreptitiously trying to let folks know, that a weaker front means the LBs are actually going to have make a lot of plays.

Currently, per their discussion, they have a heavy rotation of Regis/Hicks and Onyedim/Evans and then Sanders is going to have to play, along with Landon Rink. I don't think any of those guys make the Texas two deep and Regis/Hicks would be fighting for the third rotation. An SEC LOS League front 3/4 indeed.

Landon Rink sucks, and I'm pretty sure he's already maxed out.

Sark's not leaving Texas for the NFL or anywhere else unless:
a) the NFL makes him some ridiculous offer, like an Andy Reid type salary. And that might not do it if Sark has already won 2 titles at Texas.
b) Sark gets tired of recruiting
c) Something in the college landscape changes and Texas no longer has a high-end NIL system and Texas goes back to being at a competitive disadvantage
d) Some type of morality clause/Chris Beard situation happens

That's it, that's the list.

When we discussed this 3 or so years ago, I don't remember the aTm system coming up at all, particularly since the deal was done with regents within the UT system.

With all the bullshit they're slinging about being good this year, his seat will start to get a touch warm with another season of mediocrity and shitty qb play.

I know things are not chill in aggyland when the 12th man starts calling The Elk disgustingly obese. Are we there yet?

We are nowhere near that. Unless they really struggle with UTSA or get pummeled in South Bend, I assume we won't start seeing that deliciousness until November as they free fall.

Notre Dame is going to run the ball down their throat with Love.  That game could be a lot of fun.  If ND found a qb who can actually throw, it could get real ugly.
