I've calmed down since yesterday, but after that offensive performance I'm way more worried about Gainesville than I was previously. And after 2 blowout losses in 3 years, you can bet your ass Venables is probably going all in on Dallas this year.

ou sucks tho

I feel like our defense is going to just take over fucking games and if we can actually pound the rock it will setup more deep shots. Everyone will forget about Arch having a bad game against OSU when he's tossing up 40 yard explosives over and over.

thats all fine , but tell that man to stay back in the end zone if he's already back there . he's not fast enough to return it otherwise

And yet that drive and yesterday were still very similar.

What’s my take?

he’s young, inexperienced and the game hasn’t slowed down for him yet, especially against elite defenses that can scheme.

honestly, not surprising to me at all.

Their scheme was to sit back and let him have all day to throw short passes, amazing it worked so well.

Not really so amazing arch doesn’t have a short pass in his arsenal.

Okay everyone needs to watch the condensed all passes video of arch floating around here and the film guy take on arch.

1. arch mechanics were atrocious - film guy blames nerves.

2. Guys were open and in some cases it was the bad throw or arch missed the read but arch did go through progressions.

3. Uga and tOSU have elite players and their D coaches know Sark, he has tendencies and his misdirection is predictable. That said he called some good ones too, but he needs to figure out how to help his guys against the elite defenses. There were plays where the defense knew exactly what Texas was doing. And their disguised coverages were elite.

4. Caleb downs is a fucking boss man. Multiple plays where he alone was the difference maker.

5. arch had some nice throws.

6. arch does NOT have the touch pass in his repertoire. He needs it.

7. We know sark’s red zone offense is bad. Young QB makes it worse, expect lots of work on it the next 3 weeks.

I watched the video and I know he said that, but if you watch his 2024 highlights someone posted, Arch seemed to be perfectly fine with touch throws. I don't agree with #6.

Otherwise a solid breakdown. I'm not confident enough in my eyes or football knowledge to say definitively, but it sure seems like his 2024 highlight throwing motion was very different from yesterday. Hopefully just nerves but we'll see

I watched the recent highlight video from last year posted here today somewhere and there was not a single touch pass. None. A forward option pitch to Silas bolden but not a single soft thrown screen or anything like that.

but that highlight film showed great footwork and the film guy broke it down over the summer to the same effect.

Two top 3 teams played. One was going to lose. It was us. So what?  This is a down year in college football. I thought if arch was a stud that Texas might be head and shoulders above. Yesterday showed that might not be the case but there was nobody out there that looked any better than us.

i am guilty of dreaming of wormsign

everyone fell for the banana in the tailpipe

all of us

we all wanted and were willing to believe arch could be 4th and 5 vince in his first start with the keys

we all wanted the defense to play with capes and fly through the air at supersonic speed in defiance of gravity

jamaal-corn-4th-quarter rushing numbers, in every quarter

it was a nice dream

time to go to work

Yea buddy I’ll let you have that,

like I said we’re sitting here like we’re not on a two game losing streak talking about who sucks and who we will beat.

Sis you kiss Connelly’s numbers that OSU had an 18% win probability?  They gained 200 yards. They ran for 2.3 a pop. We doubled them on the ground and 1.75x overall.
we committed some dumb or penalties and didn’t punch it in on 4th down. Did they deserve to win? Yes. Did they outplay us and look better than us run of the game?  No.

I think Texas is going to be fine but arch played like ass. ND, Miami, So Carolina, FSU, UGA all looked or look better than us on offense this weekend.

I’m not trading our defense for anyone though I’ll give you that.

You don’t have to give me shit. I will tell you exactly who we will best and that’s everyone other than maybe Georgia on the schedule. You don’t have to believe me on that but if you don’t see it I can’t make you.

Yes arch played like ass. I bet that’s his worst game of the year, but again, read the OP. It ain’t wrong.

You said no one looked better than us. That’s just not true. Now I agree other than UGA Texas should be fine but yesterday’s offense and yesterday’s defense probably loses to UGA, possibly ND and Miami (still TBD), possibly South Carolina and probably FSU. No call on LSU or Clemson they both looked meh. We only scored 7 man. It was really really bad. And I think most of it gets fixed though I don’t think 4th and go for it will be fixed and I don’t think arch will develop a touch pass this season either.

The offense that showed up yesterday could lose to Florida, OU, Georgia, Vanderbilt and A&M.

True but I was trying to address specifically the comment that no one looked better this weekend. As for our schedule if all teams rotated through yesterday with that offense we in deep doo doo. But I’m with Wulaw, this offense will improve drastically over the next month.

The no one looked better than us was in relation to teams that played yesterday. Didn’t watch today. I will be absolutely shocked if Domers offense is dynamic. I don’t doubt they will run for 250 or 300 and boat race aggy which I’m here for.
we got pulled into a rock fight on offense by probably one of 3-5 teams in the country that could do that- and even still it was more about us than them. Arch was awful. We’ve never seen him awful before in limited time. The point is there was nothing structurally broken like overwhelmed offensive line, flaws with RB and receivers, etc that should cause concern.
the sole point of concern is that out really talented QB was awful.  That happens. That’s not a giant red flag for the season.

Did you watch aggy or OU?  Both terrible. They lose somewhere between 5 and 7 games.

RRS is a toss up most years — Mateer is light years better than the QBs they wheeled out the last 2 years and Venables will be coaching for his job… A&M will be a 7 or 8 win team and highly motivated to win their ‘super bowl’. Good enough to beat us if we play like dog shit again.

Littleton (the CB) was a super stud in HS returning kicks, IIRC.

Let him return kicks.

Fuck that noise on a kickoff. Most are going to the endzone and you can fair catch everyone and start at the 25. If he’s that worried about them fielding the kick, he needs to tell his dip shit special teams coach to make sure they don’t bring it out of the damn end zone.
Niblett has hands? Wouldn’t know it after yesterday

He did fair catch one punt. There was absolutely no one around, but he did catch it.

Thank goodness we've all learned from this.

That if we double-down on the outsized and unrealistic early expectations on a single player, by comparing him to two of the greatest UT and college QBs of all time, we'll be just fine.

If anyone's looking to pour cold water on their reasons for optimism, take a look at Scipio's breakdown of the offense on the $9.95 thread. Not great, Bob.
