The Smashing Machine also fell really flat this year. It had Dwayne Johnson in it. I think it’s most likely that there is a limited market for Oscar-bait biopics about combat sports athletes that most people haven’t heard of.

The dudes who want her to take her top off weren’t buying tickets for this anyway.

How the fuck did the Playmobil movie not make half a billion?

Holy shit, I thought that was a joke list between the Playmobil movie and Christy finishing right behind "Hitpig," but no, there is a Playmobil movie:

I just looked it up, this movie had a $15M dollar budget. That is a pretty small for a theater release in 2025. The second lead is Ben Foster…who is a great character actor but not exactly anyone’s idea of a box office draw. This wasn’t put together to be a box office smash, even if I’m sure they expected (hoped) it would do better than it did.

She hoped to get some Oscar buzz in the grand tradition of hot chick bravely makes transformation to less hot for a role (Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Ann Hathaway) . It’s not complicated.

The reviews seem not terrible but not great, one critic I like basically said she did surprisingly well in the boxing scenes but still can’t really act.

Those comparisons are good, and it’s a good play by her to try. No one is gonna stop calling her for bombshell roles because of this. But it’s smart for beautiful actresses to prove they can do something else BEFORE the sex kitten roles dry up, not when they already are.

Yeah, I feel like the same studio execs who gave us the Shirley "Cha Cha" Muldowney movie greenlit this bullshit.

Jesus, talk about a blast from the past. I think Heart Like a Wheel was on Showtime 3X a day for all of 1985.

Sydney Sweeney's greatest acting job was as the petulant/smart ass college student in season 1 of White Lotus.

She’s not bad in Americana, which I only heard of because I saw it on a plane when I had watched almost everything else.

“Come watch this movie where we make Sydney Sweeney unattractive”. And hollywood wonders why movies are dying

They've been doing that for ages, ain't nothin' new. Hot actresses do that to try to prove they can act, when most of the acting is the makeup, but they get rave reviews and rewards for sacrificing their beauty. See Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron, for example. Hollywood has always been bullshit.

Man, it's hard for me to imagine anything that I could possibly care less about than the status of Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney's friendship.

What if they kissed and made-up?

I was under the impression that that's basically what Euphoria is about, and I still haven't watched a second.

Nobody was clamoring for a biopic of Christie Martin. Most people have never heard of her.

I never had until an NPR story last week as part of the movie promotion.  It was actually pretty interesting, but not enough to make me want to watch this movie.
