So, as our last remaining shot (as slight as it is), it seems like we need to root for blowouts in the major championships.

  1. Ohio State blows out Indiana to make our close loss look even better. Indiana drops somewhere in the 5-8 range.
  2. Tech crushes BYU again. BYU drops behind us and Miami. That puts Miami and Notre Dame next to each other in the rankings, and then the committee flips them based upon the head-to-head.
  3. Georgia destroys Alabama in a game that is never really competitive. Alabama drops behind Miami and Notre Dame.
  4. That puts us, Alabama, and Notre Dame all together.  Play against common opponents is a stated criterion of the committee. Alabama lost to OU (and Georgia in this scenario). Notre Dame lost to A&M. We beat both of those teams by double digits. The committee could use that to justify us jumping both of them. That would put Miami at 9, Texas at 10, Notre Dame/Alabama at 11 and 12.

What happens in the ACC doesn't really matter. Maybe I guess Duke winning it could adversely affect Miami.

Reality is we are out. But if you want to see a path, that appears to be it to me.

Nah, Ole Miss need to drop out because they don't have a coach.

True.  Just don’t like the players hopping around like they do now.  Both pro and college are meh.

Agreed.  I still don’t think OU is in with UT’ resume.  And I think you guys should be in.  I DO think ND with UT resume would have been a shoe in.

If the NFL ended today, 6-6 Baltimore is in the Playoffs over 8-4 Buffalo and 9-4 SF who both also have a tougher SOS.

...and the other 6-6 team in the same division played a tougher SOS.

2008

#5 UT beats #1 OU 45-35 in week 7

#7 Tech beats #1 UT39-33 in Lubbock in week 10 on a last second play

OU argues they have the better loss because they got beat by a top 3 team (ranked 1 at the time) who lost to  #7 Tech team (ranked 2 at the time) that OU then beat 65-21 in week 13 and passes UT in the Coaches and BCS standings.

regular season ends with:  AP/Harris= Bama, UF, UT, OU   Coaches= Bama, OU, UT, UF   BCS= Bama, OU, UT, UF

OU gets in the CCG and wins, UF beats Bama in CCG.   UF beats OU 24-14   Fuck OU, I think we beat that UF team

We got fucked by the human polls because people are idiots.

Yeah, 10-2 ND with no Top 15 wins is #10.

A 9-3 ND with 3 Top 15 wins would be jumping most of the 1-loss teams that weren't conference champs.

But those rules were established, well known, agreed upon and not biased towards anyone before the season started.

Naw, as I recall, we got fucked by a couple of Big-12 opponent-coaches' calculated, intentional, let's-fuck-UT poll votes. (Lookin' at you, Art Briles, you cocksucker. Texas #5?! Bullshit.)

We probably should have ran up scores that season. Computers would have given us more of an edge and outweighed the coaches poll

At the end of the day both of these statements can be true.

1. Don’t schedule Ohio st or anyone else like that in OOC games

2. don’t lose to Florida.

Both of those reasons are why we’re not in the CFP.

One of those is a legit reason to be left out while the other is a completely egregious and incredibly shitty for the game reason.

I can see a path to this thread becoming the worst on this board.

Long way to go and a lot needs to go wrong, but I think we can thread the needle. We just need to bring in more politics, religion, dick punches from the seasons gone by, and Big 12 nostalgia.

I really am not compelled to rehash the "experience" that was the Big XII at all, much less so with any sort of nostalgic inclination.

Great. Cool.

The committee has decided they don't give a fuck about SOS or top 10/25 wins.  Period.  End of story.

Just rewrite the 2026 guidelines to say "W/L record and that's it.  That's the criteria"

Rules and guidelines….that’s for losers…..that’s what “the committee “ ( and their pimps /ESPN  and others, pulling the strings) said with this ranking. It’s as if they went out of their way to stick a rusty, shit-stained knife in our back.

I would absolutely lose it if someone were to bring up the 1984 Cotton Bowl or 1989 CWS Final.

At least they have rules for who gets in, and they know whether they are in or not without some unaccountable jackasses making the decision.

...We got fucked by the human polls because people are idiots.

We got fucked because our own conference coaches diddled the rankings, and because Bob Stoops is smarter than Mack - Bob ran up 7 or 8 TDs in every single game, while Mack let the opponents off the hook. We also got fucked because Mack's brilliant game plan put us in a 19-0 hole in Lubbock before we ever scored, including sticking with The Script and handing the ball on basically a draw, to our 250-lb running back standing stock-still seven yards deep in our end zone for a highly-predictable safety.

I think that year we realized Mack wasn’t as well liked as we thought and his coaching tree wasn’t shit.  Bob comes off as more genuine

BS OU gets the benefit of the doubt over Texas regardless of coaches. Muschamp was also given a pass by our dumbass fan base for that loss

Yep, this committee has no courage. They are pathetic.

And for the 100th time, it makes no sense to play an elite OOC schedule. Any of the posters clamoring for that, would probably be first up to play Russian roulette with six bullets.

1.  Some of us like big games early in the season.   They are fun.   This is supposed to be fun - its just entertainment (not russian roulette).   I know lots of people want to hide from a challenge and back their way in on an easy schedule.   That's not what i want.

2.  A win in that big game can and will (see 2023) help you in seeding and if you are on the bubble.

To act like there is no reason to ever play a hard OOC game is silly.    There is risk and reward in everything in life.    Yes playing a harder game early in the season can hurt and make your margin for error for the season tighter, but to act like there is no benefit ever is also dumb.

In the pantheon of ridiculously stupid thread titles, where does this one rank? I have it just behind "Sam Bradford Seems Like He Sucks" and running neck and neck with "This Alabama Team Is Going To Gargle Balls" (they won the title in 2017 after I posted this on Shaggy). I'm not sure what would even be in 4th or 5th place, but this site is loaded with dumbasses heaving text onto the forums, so perhaps I'm missing a few.

OU - League Average and Lovin It

Finishes 10-2 and makes the playoffs ahead of us

Ha, that's awesome. I changed that title like 10 times though. The premise was covering the season, not predicting it. Those other ones are what they are meant to say.

Also, I can't help it that the SEC fucking sucks.

Some of us want the committee to enforce its own state policies. I would rather play “fun” ball games in the playoffs.

The risk/reward for playing those games is heavily against you.
Compare our schedule to Notre Dame.

No way we shouldn’t be ranked higher but hey, we played a fun game to start the season

We are going to stomp a mudhole in Stanfords ass. And then we lost with tiger woods on the sidelines.
to be fair to your 2017 bama post they got their doors blown off by Auburn the last week of the year and barely beat a mid Ole Miss team and the perennial 8-4 aggy. That wasn’t of the same quality as previous vintage.
to be fair to this thread title I said probably and then put it at 65%. Basically- everything looks pretty solid from the initial post with what I said needed to happen except OU stunblebumfuckimg their way to 10-2. I think we all feel 9-3 Texas is likely in of OU would have lost to Bama, right?
that’s where the 65% came from- some of the stuff needed to break our way. Absolutely none of it did and we are still going to end up first team out even for all of that.
