They’re getting paid to play. They better fucking want to

It's not stipulated in their contract, so they can do what they want.

These men are professionals now. They should act accordingly. I don’t think that’s asking too much

It's certainly not, but it's the way of the world and college football now.

Which side are you arguing for? Very few professionals would work beyond the scope of their contract for no further compensation. I'm not saying that's what this is but you were responding to a conversation that started with someone saying bowl games aren't stipulated in their contacts (I'm assuming as a thought exercise).

In that scenario, not playing the bowl game would be acting like a professional.

You’re not wrong but I didn’t think under the current rules that the contracts were allowed to stipulate pay for play. But it’s implied that they’re being paid to play so I think they should play

There isn't any pay for play, it's just a contract between a company and the use of name, image, and likeness of an athlete for them to use that to promote that business.

Anything not in that contract and playing a bowl game or any game isn't, then that athlete doesn't have to do it.

Is it implied that a college athlete would sometimes play for a certain school to get a deal, sometimes it is, but it doesn't have to be.

The “committee “ and their pimps fucked up the post season…bowls are meaningless now with the expanded playoffs, and they ignored the NIL/ portal impact, while also ignoring their “guidelines”.

I think the “committee” , and their pimps….should be drug off to the deep end.

No, he's right. You're just being a bitch because we didn't make the playoff. Sark can't think like that. He needs to build a culture of winning. Beating a helmet team like Michigan helps with that, especially going into next year.

Haha no… we didn’t deserve the playoff. The bowl game is meaningless outside of sentiment.

Bowl practice is going to give someone a shot to move up in the spring practice order.

Every rep counts.

There is always a camera.

If I'm a freshman or sophomore OL that didn't get to play this season, I'm kicking everyone's ass that I can, because there are spots available and I'm taking one.

Hell, if I'm a QB, I'm kicking asses today, because Arch is a headshot away from potentially clocking out. Hell, let me bust ass enough to sit his ass down at halftime for this real football game, because in January, I'll be in a vest and not even have a shot to climb the chart.

I swear, man... Some of y'all have the fucking losingest, weakest, presumptuous, entitled mentality about Texas football.

Get up and win the next rep. I don't care if it's in shorts and tshirts... COMPETE.

The days of football will end for everyone, and most of us don't even realize, "that was the last play."

Embrace the game. If you love it, you won't turn your back on it.

10 years ago, we were 5-7 and didn't even get invited to play in a bowl game.

Texas vs Michigan in 24 days. Get your fucking mind right and stand the fuck up.

Fuck Michigan. But if we these guys need “bowl practice” to be ready for anything that’s kinda weak. They’ve had a whole season to showcase. And if they aren’t playing, it might be the coach’s fault which is entirely different. Quit acting like these are video game characters increasing attributes because of 2 weeks.

Did someone just say that young guys won’t get any better with actual game reps?  We were a very young team this year. They all need reps if they are returning next year. Pound blue and make them quit. Double birds to everyone and come home to Texas baby. To all the elite surlyites that have access to players, how do they react when you tell them they and their coaches suck balls? Would love to know which players agree with the fanaticals.

Hell, if I remember correctly Hermensa was undefeated on bowls. It meant fuck all for success the next season.

Maybe we would’ve been even worse without that bowl prep. Who knows

You saw us play this year, right? We definitely needed more reps.

Every one of you knows that you’ll be in the game thread bitching the whole time just like the rest of us. Don’t nobody posting on this website act like you’re too cool for exhibition football.

Someone should go bump some of the postgame commentary from the 2022 Alamo Bowl where we played without our 4 best players.

Yeah, not the season outcome I wanted, but having a Texas game to watch on New Year's Eve is totally fine with me. A year where football supersedes temporarily the usual dogfare of overcooked rockin poopstar TV.  I have no opinion whatsoever in these my late middle years on whether a bowl game is good or stupid or how Sark and the top starters will approach it. Who gives a fuck? There will be a game and let's fucking beat those arrogant autofellaters.

Yeah, the idea is momentum (inertia) doesn't translate over 9 months of inactivity. The only thing that can happen in this bullshit bowl that can have any meaningful impact on next season is if one of our returning players goes down with a 9+ months long injury.

An object in motion continues in motion unless acted on by a force. Well, the end of the season and not playing again for 9 months with a completely different roster is a pretty big force to kill the motion built during the season.

Thats why getting returning players who didn't get much or any time all the reps is the best use of this time. It alone won't make a difference to next season,  but as a beginning to an off-season development campaign it is a solid foundation.

Game is in Orlando…..get the players and their families into Disney World and Universal Studios and have some fun….then kick Michigan’s ass.  Win, win.

That's smart. Then you add the option for them to be able to pay their way out of not having to visit that Disney shit hole. Earn some extra $$$ for the transfer portal.

The contract probably containes some provisions for certain personal appearances.  I’m sure that some of those could be required at the the bowl game.  Maybe you can’t make them play, but drag their ass out there make.them do something.

Yes and no. I would say the win over Michigan in 2005 was a pretty big springboard for 2006. It builds confidence and desire for the next season. Makes them work harder in the offseason.

Besides I'd rather finish with a 10th win and a possible top 10 finish

This is the replacement for the spring game, except we get to watch our young guys completely fuck up whoever Michigan wants to trot out. I dont think it matters who plays for us, Michigan is ass and I think we are gonna have fun with this one.

Michigan is my team. But when they aren’t playing because I joined this place on the old board Texas became my #2 team. With that said I think Texas is going to roll michigan. Our DC sucks and underwood is just too all over the place. He just turned 18 in August. Also we have freshman starting everywhere. I’m not sure who opts out for Texas but I really am not confident michigan wins. If they do it will be ugly. Also we rely on the run game. Our current back (who at one point was 4th on the depth chart) was a former walk on
